Summary

Probably not a popular opinion but this rivals ACOTAR。 So good!!! Can’t wait to read/listen to the next。

Another great read by Maas and would recommend EVERYONE read this AFTER ACOTAR ALWAYS。Issues: First 100 pages are slow。 Danika's death in my humble opinion happened too soon to develop emotional attachment。 I wish we had spent more time getting to know her because she was an instant favorite of mine。 Her death certainly is a plot device as we learn many things she had done in life。 Very much so enjoyed the Hel out of HOEAB and will always recommend this book, again, only after ACOTAR。 Another great read by Maas and would recommend EVERYONE read this AFTER ACOTAR ALWAYS。Issues: First 100 pages are slow。 Danika's death in my humble opinion happened too soon to develop emotional attachment。 I wish we had spent more time getting to know her because she was an instant favorite of mine。 Her death certainly is a plot device as we learn many things she had done in life。 Very much so enjoyed the Hel out of HOEAB and will always recommend this book, again, only after ACOTAR。 。。。more

The world building was extensive and I enjoyed every second of it。 The relaxed language was quite enjoyable because the characters speak similarly to how I do on a daily basis。 The relationships between the main characters really impacted me because I want what Bryce had with everyone she interacts with。 Bryce is a bad bitch and anyone who meets her can tell immediately。 Hunt had so many unexpected layers to him that I really loved discovering as Sarah J。 Maas slowly peeled back these layers to The world building was extensive and I enjoyed every second of it。 The relaxed language was quite enjoyable because the characters speak similarly to how I do on a daily basis。 The relationships between the main characters really impacted me because I want what Bryce had with everyone she interacts with。 Bryce is a bad bitch and anyone who meets her can tell immediately。 Hunt had so many unexpected layers to him that I really loved discovering as Sarah J。 Maas slowly peeled back these layers to reveal Hunt as a complex being。 The plot twists were there fs and the minor surprises never failed to shock me。 I had a riveting experience reading this book and I loved it。 I annotated the whole thing and my annotations were short responses of support, hatred, or simply explaining how I feel because this book had me on a roller coasters of emotions。 It’s the only book so far that has made me cry。 Again, I really had such a great experience。 This book has gotten me out of my 15 year reading slump。 。。。more

Sarah J Mass…you have done it again。 This book gave me so many things to love。 Fae, angels, demons, a murder mysterdy…what else could I ask for。 The world that is created in this book is amazing。 The chemistry between Hunt and Bryce had me screaming as I was reading for them to just get together already。 There were so many twists that I didn’t see coming。 I really love how we got to experience Bryce’s struggle with her grief。 Amazing book!!

An absolutely fantastic story。 I didn’t want to put it down and instantly dove into the next one。 The end had me crying, laughing, and craving more from this world and the creators SJM has made。 I’m just getting into more urban fantasy stories, having found they’re not usually my scene, but this book was an absolute knock out。 Can’t wait to finish the second, and for the third to be released。

I enjoyed the second half of this book, increasingly captivated by the action。 It became a page turner。 But the first half was off-putting。 The usual party girl heroine, issues of teen-aged angst ,and BFF trauma--younger even than the actual heroine in her early twenties。 Once we got that over with, it was a good story with gripping battle scenes。 Oh, and a rock-solid hero, this time an angel, with great pecs。 There seemed to be a formula underlying it all and ultimately was pretty predictable。

Lol, I did it!I was interested in this book because it was new series, new era, new genre and i wanted to see how it was。 1st third - I was confused at first by the amount characters and world building but once I understood what was going on, I started to enjoy it for what it was2nd third- the middle section was a slog to get through。 It didn't feel like anything was happening and anything that did happen didn't feel importantFinal third- the last two hundred pages was when I started to like it Lol, I did it!I was interested in this book because it was new series, new era, new genre and i wanted to see how it was。 1st third - I was confused at first by the amount characters and world building but once I understood what was going on, I started to enjoy it for what it was2nd third- the middle section was a slog to get through。 It didn't feel like anything was happening and anything that did happen didn't feel importantFinal third- the last two hundred pages was when I started to like it again。 There was a lot of action, there were twists and a lot of cool momentsOverall, the book is too long。 Its bloated with info dumping and unnecessary scenes and if editors cared about quality over quantity they would have cut it down。Sarah J Maas clearly has a formula for her stories because some of the tropes in this were things she's done before in Throne of Glass and ACOTAR。 Nothing wrong with having a formula but if you don't change it up, it becomes grating。This book never dipped into a problematic stage for me like the other series eventually did。 I didn't care about Hunt or the romance but I did like Bryce。 Liked the mystery。 The world was fun and I wanted to see more of it after that ending I'm curious to see what happens next 。。。more

Wow… literally just balled my eyes out, such a good book。 Literally what did I just read。 The beginning was slow and pretty confusion but all fantasy books are。 So good!!!

I was super pleasantly surprised by this book! While it certainly had some cringy aspects to it, I found myself enjoying the murder mystery style fantasy vibes。 Was it zootopia? Yes。 But was it zootopia with magic and fae? YES 🙌🏻 I hate to admit that this book made me cry despite my fury at some of the characters and situations but here I am having just finished the book with tears streaming down my face。 On my way to pick up the second book now 😅

This book was a monster to get through, 800 pages of world building, romance, drama, action, and mystery。 It started off a little slow, but those last 200 pages are action packed and full of revelations that shock you to your very core。 Sarah J。 Maas is excellent at character relationships and this book was no different。 I loved the relationship that Bryce had with all of the people around her, how she dealt with her grief, and how she stayed snarky to the very end。 I can't wait to read the next This book was a monster to get through, 800 pages of world building, romance, drama, action, and mystery。 It started off a little slow, but those last 200 pages are action packed and full of revelations that shock you to your very core。 Sarah J。 Maas is excellent at character relationships and this book was no different。 I loved the relationship that Bryce had with all of the people around her, how she dealt with her grief, and how she stayed snarky to the very end。 I can't wait to read the next installment, I just may have to take a small break and read something shorter。 。。。more

I think this book was a solid 4。5 stars for me。 It was a little longer than necessary, especially for it being the first book in a series but I did still read it all so it wasn't too terrible。 I do wish the plot was more spread throughout the book though。 It felt like it was some in the beginning and like all in the end。 I agree with others that it's hard not to compare this book to Sarah J Mass other series and it really did just feel like a mix up of ACOTAR and TOG。 The story line was good tho I think this book was a solid 4。5 stars for me。 It was a little longer than necessary, especially for it being the first book in a series but I did still read it all so it wasn't too terrible。 I do wish the plot was more spread throughout the book though。 It felt like it was some in the beginning and like all in the end。 I agree with others that it's hard not to compare this book to Sarah J Mass other series and it really did just feel like a mix up of ACOTAR and TOG。 The story line was good though and I love Bryce! 。。。more

After loving the ACOTAR series (especially book 1, 2 and Silver flames) I was excited to read this one considering all the hype and coverage it has on SoMe。 This did not live up to that for me at all。 I am no prude and I curse quite a lot in daily life but this book? Swearing is everywhere and in every conversation that’s written, which is quite a lot。 It reminds me of a 12-year old who just learned the words and uses them in every way possible thinking it’s cool。 Poor writing is all over this b After loving the ACOTAR series (especially book 1, 2 and Silver flames) I was excited to read this one considering all the hype and coverage it has on SoMe。 This did not live up to that for me at all。 I am no prude and I curse quite a lot in daily life but this book? Of all the characters created by Sarah J。 Maas, the ones in here are my favorite。 I loved them。 Each series has its own beauty, but Crescent City just went beyond my expectation。 I thought my fascination for Rhysand was over the top until Hunt Athalar surpassed him。 I already invested ALL of my emotions in him, in all of them。 If you have noticed, I took a really long break from Maas' works after reading "A Court of Silver Flames", I decided not to dive into this new series immediately because I Of all the characters created by Sarah J。 Maas, the ones in here are my favorite。 I loved them。 Each series has its own beauty, but Crescent City just went beyond my expectation。 I thought my fascination for Rhysand was over the top until Hunt Athalar surpassed him。 I already invested ALL of my emotions in him, in all of them。 If you have noticed, I took a really long break from Maas' works after reading "A Court of Silver Flames", I decided not to dive into this new series immediately because I was afraid I might compare it from TOG and ACOTAR。 I was glad I made a right decision, I was able to take my time slowly; savored each moment。 Indeed, this has been my favorite book this year。 I am totally in love with this, with everything in this novel。 I also want to express that I am going to be really really upset if Hunt and Bryce is not the endgame。 By now, I know the patterns so I am hoping that it will be different。I think the best thing about Hunt and Bryce, they started from the edge which somehow made them seemed normal, low key characters then they progressed into something incredible。 That is why, you will be seeing me in the next book。 I want to see the development, there are so many things to look forward to, so many questions I need answers! So I’ll see you in the next book…I know it is waiting for me too。 。。。more

There’s something about the pressure of academic deadlines which makes reading so enjoyable!!!This was literally。。 the longest book I’ve ever read。 I mean that literally and metaphorically。 Whilst certainly being a drag and a half it did what it needed to do。 I cried, I laughed, I was certainly intrigued, but I’m SO glad that’s over。Only thing I’d say - wish it left on a better cliff hanger。 Still reading book two though OBVIOUSLY!In comparison to ACOTAR, these MC’s were so much more enjoyable a There’s something about the pressure of academic deadlines which makes reading so enjoyable!!!This was literally。。 the longest book I’ve ever read。 I mean that literally and metaphorically。 Whilst certainly being a drag and a half it did what it needed to do。 I cried, I laughed, I was certainly intrigued, but I’m SO glad that’s over。Only thing I’d say - wish it left on a better cliff hanger。 Still reading book two though OBVIOUSLY!In comparison to ACOTAR, these MC’s were so much more enjoyable and likeable to read。 They were nuanced (which I never thought I’d be using to describe a Maas book) they were relatable (as relatable fairies, angels, werewolf’s and home-brand vampires can be) and less annoying!!!
