Once again, a great epic from Victoria Aveyard。 Blade Breaker picks right up from where Realm Breaker left off。 At least I think it does。 Having read Realm Breaker when it came out a year ago, I was a bit hazy on what was going on at first。 (A plea to fantasy writers, when a sequel is being printed, PLEASE put in a quick plot synopsis of the first book, just enough to refresh the memory of those of us who might need it? Once I was able to catch up with the goings on of the various characters, I was drawn in and back on the various journeys。 Still feeling like Erida is a spoiled brat who is playing a dangerous game。 I could "almost" feel pity for her。 Except for that。 So my opinion of her is low。 I am left wondering how a particular set of characters got out of their predicament to appear when they did。 (Trying to avoid spoilers。) But maybe that will be revealed when the next one comes out。 (Or did I space out for a chapter and miss it? If so, please let me know! LOL) But overall, still a great book。 Aveyard doesn't disappoint me。 And I appreciate that! 。。。more

Blade Breaker is the second book in the trilogy and I am torn on my feelings for this book。 There was some really good action but then there just seemed to have way to much extra unnecessary information that it felt way to long。 The book starts right in at the end of the action from the first book and since it has been a year since I read the first book it took me a long while to remember who was who (there are a lot of characters) and what had actually happened in the first book。 The action sce Blade Breaker is the second book in the trilogy and I am torn on my feelings for this book。 There was some really good action but then there just seemed to have way to much extra unnecessary information that it felt way to long。 The book starts right in at the end of the action from the first book and since it has been a year since I read the first book it took me a long while to remember who was who (there are a lot of characters) and what had actually happened in the first book。 The action scenes are fabulous in this story and the multiple POV's give great perspectives with so many different characters that was helpful in keeping the story moving。 One difference from the first to the second book is that I didn't root for the villains as much as I did in the first book they just felt like true villains in this one and now I want them defeated。 I am going to give this four stars for action and making me like the companions even more than I did in the first book。 Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

This book continued the amazing sense of adventure, hope, and near impossible quest。 I spent so much time flipping back to the map (an incredible map) to help me gather the relative positions of our ragtag band of those for the ward and the battles waged by Erida。 I was glad to see more into Sorasa。 Her witty banter with Dom helped keep the slower portions of the book intriguing。 As much as I want to hate Erida, I still cannot bring myself to do so in hope she has some for of redemption or somet This book continued the amazing sense of adventure, hope, and near impossible quest。 I spent so much time flipping back to the map (an incredible map) to help me gather the relative positions of our ragtag band of those for the ward and the battles waged by Erida。 I was glad to see more into Sorasa。 Her witty banter with Dom helped keep the slower portions of the book intriguing。 As much as I want to hate Erida, I still cannot bring myself to do so in hope she has some for of redemption or something。 。。。more

4。5 I loooooove this series

I really enjoy this series。 Fantasy is not one of my top genres, but this is digestible while still holding true to being fantasy (i。e。 loooooong。) I hate to compare to the Red Queen series, which Aveyard absolutely tanked。 This heroine is more developed and consistent, while still remaining in that “oh gosh I didn’t know I had powers, little ol me?” trope。 But she grows through the series and we like her — and her company。 The plot so far is entertaining but unoriginal - a quest to save the wor I really enjoy this series。 Fantasy is not one of my top genres, but this is digestible while still holding true to being fantasy (i。e。 loooooong。) I hate to compare to the Red Queen series, which Aveyard absolutely tanked。 This heroine is more developed and consistent, while still remaining in that “oh gosh I didn’t know I had powers, little ol me?” trope。 But she grows through the series and we like her — and her company。 The plot so far is entertaining but unoriginal - a quest to save the world, of course。 It has wonderful LOTR vibes。 。。。more

Wow。 This ending… wow。 As much as Realm Breaker was a bit slow to me, Blade Breaker was better。 There were still periods where the action seemed to be just blasé enough to barely capture my attention, but it stayed。 I devoured this book。 Truly a masterpiece。 4。5/5。 Applause for Victoria Aveyard。

Spoiler Free Zone!!!!I absolutely adored this book。 I rarely ever find myself interested in fantasy books similar to this series; a band of hero’s saving the world is hardly ever my taste。 However, the characters that VA has within this story pulled me in the first book and continued to do the same in the second。 After reading other reviews, I feel like a lot of people disliked the general war/politics aspect of this book, personally I find this complaint to be a bit odd because with the world b Spoiler Free Zone!!!!I absolutely adored this book。 I rarely ever find myself interested in fantasy books similar to this series; a band of hero’s saving the world is hardly ever my taste。 However, the characters that VA has within this story pulled me in the first book and continued to do the same in the second。 After reading other reviews, I feel like a lot of people disliked the general war/politics aspect of this book, personally I find this complaint to be a bit odd because with the world building VA has set up it’s a necessary aspect of this story and books in this overall genre, too。 I will say, I think this series in general is for an audience who prefers interesting characters over other aspects。 With that being said, I personally felt like this book was so perfectly balanced with plot。 When there would be a lull of time with the gang, we would get a peek into Erida’s POV。 I feel like that even though this book was pretty long, I was never bored。 I always anticipated the next POV and to see the relationship developments。 SPOILERS AHEAD!!!I am not sure how long this series will be, however I hope the next book is the last。 Even if it is like 800 pages。 However, I do have a feeling that the next book will not be the last considering that Corayne is separated from everyone else。 I imagine the next book will follow the gang reuniting for half of it and the second half maybe closing one of the spindles, all while Erida is going insane from What Waits being inside her and Tartisan hunting Corayne for the Spindleblade。Either way, I am excited and the next book will be my most anticipated read of 2023。 。。。more

Okay!!! The world is SO massive and I like the concept (similar to LOTR) that there are things that exist/occur that are simply beyond or without explanation。 Although, there is a looot of world and lore and background for a YA book。 It’s quite literally overflowing at times。 I had to look back at the map quite a bit。With all that being said… this would make an EXCELLENT video game。 Or Vave would make an excellent video game writer。Enjoyable, beginning maybe dragged a little? “Found family” felt Okay!!! Wow oh wow Mrs Victoria NEVER DISAPPOINTS! The ending had me questioning everything and we love a story where you don’t know if to cheer on the villain or hero or really, are they playing both parts? The only thing I would say was the pacing was a bit off in some parts and it dragged a bit but I LOVED getting more backstory on everyone。 Corayne to me still seems a little underdeveloped for the main character but not problem, Sorasa is carrying the story :)

This book had me hooked from the beginning。 My main issue was that I was almost going to skip over Erida's pov, but it was still really cool to see one of the main villians pov。 I can't say how many times this book made my heart rate over 100 bpm, but it was a lot。 I really rooted for the Companions and hurt when they hurt。 They felt like they were my friends。 This book very well put me into reading slump, because many books do not make me feel the way I did while reading this。 This book had me hooked from the beginning。 My main issue was that I was almost going to skip over Erida's pov, but it was still really cool to see one of the main villians pov。 I can't say how many times this book made my heart rate over 100 bpm, but it was a lot。 I really rooted for the Companions and hurt when they hurt。 They felt like they were my friends。 This book very well put me into reading slump, because many books do not make me feel the way I did while reading this。 。。。more

This book seemed rather slow, especially in comparison to the first one。 There was some character development with Erida, Dom, and Coranye but I definitely wanted to see more。 All the main action/important things happened in the last 50 pages。 I did like the build up to the end and the interacting characters putting all the puzzle pieces together。

I think that I liked Blade Breaker better than Realm Breaker。 I think that this series is much more plot-driven than character-driven which is something that I don't particularly enjoy in my fantasy as much。 I will forgive a lot of soft world-building for a great romance or great characters。 In the Realm Breaker series, a lot of the character and relationship development is sacrificed for cool action scenes that drive the plot and that's definitely not a bad thing。 In the latter half of this boo I think that I liked Blade Breaker better than Realm Breaker。 I think that this series is much more plot-driven than character-driven which is something that I don't particularly enjoy in my fantasy as much。 I will forgive a lot of soft world-building for a great romance or great characters。 In the Realm Breaker series, a lot of the character and relationship development is sacrificed for cool action scenes that drive the plot and that's definitely not a bad thing。 In the latter half of this book my heart was in my throat at some of the gripping action scenes。 It's not what I particularly love in fantasy but I'm sure that a lot of people will really enjoy this。 There is something holding me back a little bit from going totally feral over these books that have the ingredients to be something I really love。 It took me two readings of Realm Breaker and 300 pages into this book (halfway) for me to start caring about any of the characters which was frustrating but I am relieved that it happened eventually。 There are some beautiful character moments in this book but there are so many POVs and so little time to swell on the moments that something as powerful as Corayne seeing her mother again gets maybe 5 pages in total before the book moves on。 There is also a little bit more romance in this book but a lot of the character stuff is told to us rather than shown。 Once I got into the book, though, I was really into it。 This is very much a second book in a trilogy so reader beware。 I think the third book is set up to be really jam-packed and I'm looking forward to it more than when I started Blade Breaker so I think that is ultimately a win。 I will say that I found the Ridha pov chapters completely unnecessary and I never connected with that character which made the end fall really flat for me。 Also, while I enjoyed Erida's plot and pov in Realm Breaker, in Blade Breaker after the first couple of chapters her plotline felt really unnecessary for me。 I get it。。。I see where it's going and I find the way the romance is handled in her chapters really discordant with the emotional themes I'm supposed to be getting。 I'm reserving judgment because I'm curious to see what Victoria ultimately does with Erida。 I hope it's good。 。。。more

Mixed feelings。 Here's what I enjoyed about the book: #1 - The dynamic between Erida and Taristan increased my interest in the book exponentially, and I appreciated how many more chapters Aveyard included from Erida's point of view after Realm Breaker。 I'm not necessarily rooting for the villains here, but damn if their chapters aren't the most interesting。#2 - The map。 It is by far the best map I've seen attached to any series, and I enjoyed going back to reference it and continue to admire its beauty。However, my overall enjoyment ends there and everything else in the book I have at best mixed feelings for。 Here are where my issues began。 Even while reading Realm Breaker, I felt as if Aveyard was sacrificing important and needed character and plot development for the sake of trying to build Allward。 This feeling skyrocketed while reading Blade Breaker。 Aveyard spends more time describing journeys riding sand mares or the politics of a far-off kingdom than explaining the driving needs and desires behind the Companions。 For that reason, the only members of the Companions I truly cared for are Sorasa and Domacridhan。 This sentiment seems to be in line with popular opinion, and I strongly believe it's because these are the only characters of the Companions Aveyard has given any true substance to。 I am of the opinion that if an author makes the decision to have six "main" characters, then they should devote time to actually develop those characters instead of picking and choosing which of the six are the most important to the plot。 Valtik, Charlie, and Sigil are side characters at best, which is furthered by the fact that there are no chapters told from their perspective, and Corayne and Andry are just。。。 boring。 I gave them the benefit of the doubt in Realm Breaker because they were young and still discovering themselves。 But after seeing the amount of development Dom/Sorasa had in comparison to Corayne/Andry, I'm now convinced the two just have no personality。Another issue I had with Blade Breaker was the timeline。 I was under the impression that Erida's chapters and Corayne/Andry/Sorasa/Dom's chapters were happening in tandem to each other, only to get 3/4 of the way through the book to realize that their chapters were happening weeks apart。 It made the logistics of the final quarter of the book difficult to work through。The final qualm I had is with how cyclical the plot was and (more importantly) despite being 2 books and over 1,000 pages into the series, it feels like no progress has really been made。 A spindle is opened at the same time another is closed, and so on。 I'm not sure I'll be picking up the next book in the series unless something considerably changes, which sucks because I still love Aveyard as an author so much。 。。。more
