Summary

I had to read this book for school。 I went into it with VERY low expectations, thinking it would be another summer reading book where I need to analyze the color of the main character’s shirt。 It was not that。 The way Napoleon so masterfully tricks the animals is so evil and malicious, it’s terrifying。 The last line so perfectly summed up the entire book and seriously shook me to my core。 I might need therapy after this。Benjamin was probably my favorite character。 I do think there were a lot of I had to read this book for school。 I went into it with VERY low expectations, thinking it would be another summer reading book where I need to analyze the color of the main character’s shirt。 It was not that。 The way Napoleon so masterfully tricks the animals is so evil and malicious, it’s terrifying。 The last line so perfectly summed up the entire book and seriously shook me to my core。 I might need therapy after this。Benjamin was probably my favorite character。 I do think there were a lot of characters, but that was probably my only complaint with this book。 Definitely not something I would pick up on my own, but I am so glad I read this。 Overall? 4。5 stars。 。。。more

I both love and hate this book。 It’s so disturbing and makes my skin crawl。 But that’s the power of it。 It evokes a physical response。

An incredible, and concise, metaphor of what we can and cannot achieve as a species。

The foreword by Théa Obrecht was shoddy, sliding too much into specific modern politics for my taste。 I definitely enjoyed her recounting of life in Yugoslavia。 The afterword was just lacking in substance。The book itself is excellent。 It is far better a read than 1984, and its antisoviet criticism is, although obscured behind masks of pigs and sheep and horses, very well worded and structured。 It is obvious that Napoleon and Snowball are parallels to Stalin and Trotsky, and even the latter's esc The foreword by Théa Obrecht was shoddy, sliding too much into specific modern politics for my taste。 I definitely enjoyed her recounting of life in Yugoslavia。 The afterword was just lacking in substance。The book itself is excellent。 It is far better a read than 1984, and its antisoviet criticism is, although obscured behind masks of pigs and sheep and horses, very well worded and structured。 It is obvious that Napoleon and Snowball are parallels to Stalin and Trotsky, and even the latter's escape is mirroring real life events。The only thing that irked me is that the book portrays Snowball's plans as being glorious, when in reality Trotsky agreed with many of Stalin's ideas, and would have probably been just as bad had he won the power struggle。At some points in the book you can even see what would eventually become core ideas in 1984, such as the steady altering of the commandments and denying the animals' memories。I especially liked the part where the communists were pigs and sows。 It's only fitting。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Wow。 It was an easy read due to how well written it was and the meaning was so driven through the story as you slowly watched the pigs turn more and more evil; more and more into humans。 Gonna be thinking about this book for many more years to come I reckon。 go read it right now。

This book was one that I found difficult to get into at first, it’s writing seemed like it needed to tell you every single detail, as if you could not come to your own realizations。Other than that, I throughly enjoyed the story。 It had me hooked。

Isabel

Great classic easy read, and has good underlying meaning。

It's a well-crafted and emotional allegory, but I wouldn't give it much more merit。If you want to understand the history of how the soviet union failed the socialist dream, this isn't the book to read。If you want to read good satire, there are better books out there。If you want a good fable, this barely classifies as one。So why did I rate it 4 stars?Well, this is the only book I know that meshes all of these things together and still rocks a good story, characters, and criticism。 It's definitely It's a well-crafted and emotional allegory, but I wouldn't give it much more merit。If you want to understand the history of how the soviet union failed the socialist dream, this isn't the book to read。If you want to read good satire, there are better books out there。If you want a good fable, this barely classifies as one。So why did I rate it 4 stars?Well, this is the only book I know that meshes all of these things together and still rocks a good story, characters, and criticism。 It's definitely a unique and solid work of literature。 。。。more

intelligently written, this book tells the evolvement of mankind from the beginning of time but with a twist。 it shows how power makes one evil, history can be distorted to suit the leader’s vision, and how illiteracy of individuals can be used to exploit them。 the character of boxer is of an overly exploited individual who believes that good can be achieved by overworking, a thought that the lower class’ brains are often instilled with。 this book is just too good。 i couldn’t help but gasp at ce intelligently written, this book tells the evolvement of mankind from the beginning of time but with a twist。 it shows how power makes one evil, history can be distorted to suit the leader’s vision, and how illiteracy of individuals can be used to exploit them。 the character of boxer is of an overly exploited individual who believes that good can be achieved by overworking, a thought that the lower class’ brains are often instilled with。 this book is just too good。 i couldn’t help but gasp at certain scenes and was horrified at some points。 the connection to our real world is incredible and the fact that it was written in 1945 and remains relevant to this date is terrifying。 i don’t think i have read a better book so far this year。 。。。more
