Ein zeitlos schöner Kinderbuch-Klassiker。 Da kann man auch schon einmal großzügig über ein paar angestaubte Formulierungen, antiquierte Rollenbilder und Logiklücken hinwegsehen。

It was such a cute mystery and I loved the atmosphere it was set in。 I adored all of the kids, they each have such a fun personality。 Kiki was hilarious and Aunt Polly was such a dear。 (Spoiler) I was thrilled at the end that Jack and Lucy-Ann will get to live with Philip, Dinah, and their mom💕

The first in the series, and there are plenty of similarities to the first book in the Famous Five series – too many similarities perhaps。 But it was enjoyable nevertheless。 It does border on being a bit racist。 As in the Bobbsey Twins books, it seems to be considered a necessity to constantly stress the colour of a black person's skin as though it would be terrible to let people forget about it, or as though to clearly distinguish them from the white people。 It probably wasn't as bad as the Bob The first in the series, and there are plenty of similarities to the first book in the Famous Five series – too many similarities perhaps。 But it was enjoyable nevertheless。 It does border on being a bit racist。 As in the Bobbsey Twins books, it seems to be considered a necessity to constantly stress the colour of a black person's skin as though it would be terrible to let people forget about it, or as though to clearly distinguish them from the white people。 It probably wasn't as bad as the Bobbsey Twins and Blyton didn't mention the skin colour every time we met the character in question, but certainly earlier in the book it was continually being brought up。 It looks like quite a long book but it's quick and easy to read, and probably good for people learning to read as a lot of the vocabulary is quite repetitive - so if a person meets a new word, they get plenty of practice at reading it by meeting it again and again and again。 Overall its a satisfying adventure, and certainly quite gripping the first time you read it, even if it is all very predictable。 。。。more

I started reading the Enid Blyton Adventure series of books when I was 10 or 11 years old。 It followed after a teacher at primary school read The Rockingdown Mystery to us on a wet afternoon。 This kickstarted my reading habit and a love of books I've had every since。 I would borrow Adventure books and Famous Five books from the library and I read them avidly for the next few years。Now, a little older and a little wiser, I decided to reread the series。 OK, so not books intended for adults, and th I started reading the Enid Blyton Adventure series of books when I was 10 or 11 years old。 It followed after a teacher at primary school read The Rockingdown Mystery to us on a wet afternoon。 This kickstarted my reading habit and a love of books I've had every since。 I would borrow Adventure books and Famous Five books from the library and I read them avidly for the next few years。Now, a little older and a little wiser, I decided to reread the series。 OK, so not books intended for adults, and the stories lack real tension, mystery or surprise。 This was still an enjoyable read on a sunny afternoon and I will be reading the remainder of the series over the summer。 。。。more

Classic fun。 A bit sexist, a bit of some rudeness to adults, some semi-neglect。 But it is difficult to put it down! Can’t wait to read the rest。 My daughter has read the whole series and is working her way through them again。

Enid Blyton - queen of the children's adventure storyThere is still nothing like Blyton's storytelling in the realm of children's literature。 She completely captures the imagination of the reader until the last page。 Her Adventure series were the first "chapter" (rather than "picture") books I ever read。 That was when I was nine years old。 I'm 65 now, and still infatuated。 Enid Blyton - queen of the children's adventure storyThere is still nothing like Blyton's storytelling in the realm of children's literature。 She completely captures the imagination of the reader until the last page。 Her Adventure series were the first "chapter" (rather than "picture") books I ever read。 That was when I was nine years old。 I'm 65 now, and still infatuated。 。。。more

I was nervous about re-reading Enid Blyton’s books as an adult, because I was afraid that the ‘magic’ of the stories would not be the same or that it would ruin the precious memories associated with her books。 That being said, it brought the nostalgia and the adventures, but unfortunately it also disappointed me in some ways。 This book was both blatantly racist as well as sexist, and despite me being aware of the fact that it was written in 1944, it bothered me A LOT。 Almost to the point of not I was nervous about re-reading Enid Blyton’s books as an adult, because I was afraid that the ‘magic’ of the stories would not be the same or that it would ruin the precious memories associated with her books。 That being said, it brought the nostalgia and the adventures, but unfortunately it also disappointed me in some ways。 This book was both blatantly racist as well as sexist, and despite me being aware of the fact that it was written in 1944, it bothered me A LOT。 Almost to the point of not finishing the book。 This book gets 3 stars for the nostalgia and good memories, but I do not plan on continuing to read this series。 。。。more

I was addicted to Enid Blyton's Adventure series of books when I was a kids。 They've now been edited to remove some of the stuff that was deemed acceptable in society back when they were written but is actually offensive and totally unacceptable many decades later。 This means that a whole new generation of children can enjoy the marvellous writings and imagination of Enid Blyton。 When I saw the audiobook of this, the first in the Adventure series, on the Borrowbox library app I couldn't resist r I was addicted to Enid Blyton's Adventure series of books when I was a kids。 They've now been edited to remove some of the stuff that was deemed acceptable in society back when they were written but is actually offensive and totally unacceptable many decades later。 This means that a whole new generation of children can enjoy the marvellous writings and imagination of Enid Blyton。 When I saw the audiobook of this, the first in the Adventure series, on the Borrowbox library app I couldn't resist revisiting it and I'm glad I did。 The story is just as entertaining and I still love the 4 children and especially Kiki the parrot。 It depicts a more innocent time when kids would run about having adventures, and when I wasn't glued to a book that's what my own childhood was like, outside and imagining all sorts of exciting stories。 Just fabulous。 。。。more

Unread shelf project 2021: book 109。I read some of this series when I was a kid and revisiting it was fun! Kiki the parrot was by far my favorite character in this book although I enjoyed all of the children’s characters pretty equally。 Blyton just did an amazing job writing a very personable bird — and as a former bird mom, I can attest that she wrote accurately!

4。5 / 5 - re-reading this set of books which were favourites from my childhood! Superior to the famous five and secret seven I think these are some of Blytons best works and I loved reading the first book in the series full of caves, hidden passages, spooky lights and smuggling! I can’t wait until my god children are old enough to get stuck into these, whilst they are slightly old fashioned they are full of adventure and joy!

Enid Blyton had a fertile imagination and a knack for writing books for children。 Here there are four children。 Philip loves small animals and insects。 Jack is interested in birds and owns a parrot called Kiki who causes much amusement to the reader。 Dianne has anger management problems and needs a counselor。 Only Lucy-Ann seems normal。 The children are a lot on their own。 They do dangerous things like sailing ons the sea, negotiating through dangerous rocks, exploring caves and confronting dang Enid Blyton had a fertile imagination and a knack for writing books for children。 Here there are four children。 Philip loves small animals and insects。 Jack is interested in birds and owns a parrot called Kiki who causes much amusement to the reader。 Dianne has anger management problems and needs a counselor。 Only Lucy-Ann seems normal。 The children are a lot on their own。 They do dangerous things like sailing ons the sea, negotiating through dangerous rocks, exploring caves and confronting dangerous criminals。 All this was too scary for me 。。。more

The start of the adventures! Jack, Lucy-Ann and Kiki the Parrot meet Philip and Diana for the first time and share a fantastic adventure at Craggy Tops。 They come across the mysterious Isle of Gloom, on old copper mining island, and they befriend the equally mysterious, but very friendly bird watcher Bill Smugs。 Some very tense moments, and a fantastic book!!!!!

So many extra words and paragraphs。 We just started skipping stuff。 It seems also to be better-suited to a younger audience — no older than eight。 My 11- and 12-year olds thought there were too many coincidences。
