Summary

W ostatnim czasie odnotowano wzrost produktywności o 1200%!

This was a very basic introduction to scrum with the author more concentrated on bragging and being self-righteous。 You’d think that Scrum is the best invention ever!As soon as who is very familiar with Scrum and agile ways of working, I learnt nothing new。 If you’re new to scrum or agile ways of working, do not read this。 Read online articles instead or skip to the appendix to read a quick guide on how to adopt to scrum。

You know, one day, sooner than I think, I may well put some of the concepts contained within this book into action。 One day, sooner than I think。

I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would。 I tend not to enjoy business or work-related books as they are out of touch and self-congratulatory, but I did not feel that way about this one。 First and foremost, if you know a lot about Scrum, this probably isn't a book you'll read and feel like it changed your life。 As someone who worked in an "agile" (according to them) environment and had limited experience, this was a great introduction to the big picture ideas of Scrum。 This book felt I enjoyed this book much more than I thought I would。 I tend not to enjoy business or work-related books as they are out of touch and self-congratulatory, but I did not feel that way about this one。 First and foremost, if you know a lot about Scrum, this probably isn't a book you'll read and feel like it changed your life。 As someone who worked in an "agile" (according to them) environment and had limited experience, this was a great introduction to the big picture ideas of Scrum。 This book felt like a "lightbulb" moment for me and my career and drove me to get certified as a Scrum Master (which is certainly not something any other business book has ever done for me personally)。The book is an easy read。 The writing flows and I think the author does well to give relevant anecdotes without spending more time on them than is necessary。 I don't have much of a critique other than I would've been happy with a little more concrete information tied to Scrum (or the Scrum Guide) because I think it would have been even more impactful。 Having said that, it's still super readable, and easy to take away something positive from the book。 。。。more

This book has been taking up space in my work cabinet for a while now。 So many of the words are ones I hear in my daily work and being able to see how they actually fit and SHOULD fit was helpful before even finishing the book。 Naturally, as so many of these types of books end up doing, there are applications to some of it even outside of Scrum and Agile。 But if this is work that you are in or getting into, I absolutely recommend it as an into。 That being said, it isn't straightforward, how to p This book has been taking up space in my work cabinet for a while now。 So many of the words are ones I hear in my daily work and being able to see how they actually fit and SHOULD fit was helpful before even finishing the book。 Naturally, as so many of these types of books end up doing, there are applications to some of it even outside of Scrum and Agile。 But if this is work that you are in or getting into, I absolutely recommend it as an into。 That being said, it isn't straightforward, how to put it into practice。 There are lots of good takeaways but the "how to do" is an appendix。 And I now know a lot about the author。 。。。more

3。5 starsThe ideas, examples and explanations are great。 I learned quite a lot。 The self-praising tone especially at the beginning of the book is, however, awful。

Great, if you can tolerate the egotism。 I found myself cringing at least twice in each chapter。 The content is really good which is why it gets 4 stars from me。

José Martins

Simple and to the point。 Just what you need to understand SCRUM。

Ruth Kamau

DNF @36% Got tired of not really knowing what scrum is, and the appendix was just the same list of things that was confusing me in the chapters I managed to read。

Very slow start, feels like half the book is self aggrandizing promises up front that are never delivered on。 Follows with lots of examples that are too vague to be immediately actionable。 A promising framework with a disappointingly useless description

Scrum, when properly explained and implemented is a brilliant way of doing things。 Normally thought of as a software methodology, one person interviewed for this book, by the guy who invented scrum, used the methodology to get his house remodeled on time and under budget。 Yeah。 I'm a convert。 Scrum, when properly explained and implemented is a brilliant way of doing things。 Normally thought of as a software methodology, one person interviewed for this book, by the guy who invented scrum, used the methodology to get his house remodeled on time and under budget。 Yeah。 I'm a convert。 。。。more

The approach seems interesting, but the book so oversells it that I became dubious by the end。 The various rabbit trails he goes down were fun though, especially the military history ones。

I listened to this as an audiobook。 Unlike a lot of tech books, this works well in audio。 It's written in a conversational tone, with Mr Sutherland recounting a lot of anecdotes from his experience creating and applying scrum。 It's probably not the best book you could read for learning the mechanics of scrum, but if you've already got some of the basics figured out, and are looking to learn more about why and how scrum was created, then this is probably a good book to read。 (That said, you *coul I listened to this as an audiobook。 Unlike a lot of tech books, this works well in audio。 It's written in a conversational tone, with Mr Sutherland recounting a lot of anecdotes from his experience creating and applying scrum。 It's probably not the best book you could read for learning the mechanics of scrum, but if you've already got some of the basics figured out, and are looking to learn more about why and how scrum was created, then this is probably a good book to read。 (That said, you *could* use this book to learn scrum from scratch。 I'm just not sure it's the best book for that。)Listening to this book has given me some insight into the scrum process and, I think, has helped me understand a bit more about why the director of IT at my company is so excited about it。 I still have doubts, myself, but I could see where someone could be convinced that scrum will actually allow you to do "twice the work in half the time," as the sub-title of this book states。If I have any problem with this book, it's that it's a bit heavy on military and sports analogies。 I'm always a bit suspicious of applying those kind of analogies to programming, since I don't think programmers work or think the same way athletes and soldiers do, and I don't think teams of programmers should be managed the same way a sports team or military organization should。 (That said, I do still think scrum is a good way to manage programming projects。) 。。。more

What about its unsuccessful cases? The book is silent in this regard and I am not sure that this fact makes it even a bit less valuable。 In sum, Scrum is very powerful, tested by times, and anyone has to be capable of applying it。 This book leads you there, by the man who created Scrum as we know it。 。。。more

Truly an inspirational read! The Scrum process encourages accountability, productivity, transparency and above all else, happiness! While developed for the tech world, these principles can and have been applied to any industry and can be utilized in your every day life。 Please do yourself a favor and read through this page turner。

This was a really good book and helpful as it is being applied in my job at work, this booked allowed me to have a deeper understanding of the method。 I like how it not only applied the method of scrum as a business approach but as a life hack and I found myself naturally planning things like my gym and fitness goals using scrum。My only flaw of the book would be there was a lot of repetition of the same idea and it definitely could have been shortened。

When I started reading the book, my goal was to understand how Scrum works, what is a sprint, a backlog, what are the roles in a Scrum team, etc。 Have I achieved my goal? Yes, but instead of a direct shortcut to achieving it, I’ve got a very winding path, although the author is the developer of the Scrum methodology。Chapter 1 begins with a story with the example of software development for the FBI, where at first the development of one program was not completed to the end due to the cascade method of project management and the fact that the functionality planned at the beginning of the project was no longer relevant at the end of its implementation。 Then they began to develop a second program, which formed an identical picture of the first story, when suddenly Scrum came to the rescue, which saved the situation。 Everyone was happy, happy end。 The author intrigued us and the reader can not wait to learn the magic algorithm, but no such luck。Chapter 2。 Reading it, you can't learn anything particularly new。 Either because it's already 2022, or because everything is clear。 In short, the chapter is about the history of Scrum。 The main message is that self-organizing systems acting according to the situation are better than cascading systems acting according to a plan that may already be irrelevant by the time any task is completed (we understood this from the previous chapter, maybe will there be something on the case in the next one?)。Chapter 3。 Any company\factory\enterprise is a collective。 So tell me, where will the greatest result be: in a team that is complex and acts according to the situation, or which is disordered and acts in discord? It would seem that the answer lies on the surface, but even here the whole chapter cheerfully follows the trend of the book in the form of avoiding the main answer。 The only thing that was interesting to learn here is that if the same people who were in a poorly functioning system are substituted into a properly functioning one and find out what prevents them from performing this or that task, then the result will be completely different, in a positive way, because not people are bad, but the system is like this which they can't change。 This idea is especially relevant for Russia in 2022。Chapter 4。 Finally。 A little description is how to organize work through sprints, when you do something for a certain short period of time and then present it。 There is a description of the scrum board and daily meetings on the go, where the whole team analyzes what has been done, what needs to be done and what is an obstacle。Chapter 5。 God-prescribed truths are coming again: you don't have to take on everything at once, things need to be completed to the end, scrum eliminates costs。 In general, again some slogans, instead of something specific。Chapter 6。 An interesting chapter that is not directly related to Scrum, but describes an interesting technique of “poker planning” through Fibonacci numbers and how to evaluate performance dynamics。Chapter 7。 Motivational chapter about happiness…Chapter 8。 Finally。 Finally, it is explained what a backlog is, it is told about the principle of prioritization, it is explained who the product owner is, it is told about the OODA cycle, about when to release a product according to the value /function ratios 。。。 That’s all。 The end。 Chapter 9。 Again, the chatter is that Scrum is needed everywhere。Application。 Consistent actions on how to implement the Scrum methodology。 The whole book was built for the sake of these 2。5 pages。Would I recommend reading the whole book? Probably not。 If you want to get only important information you can read chapters 4,6,8 and an appendix。 If it is necessary to get information very briefly on Scrum, then read only the application。 。。。more
