Cute, small book。 Covers quite a few basic concepts to open your eyes。

Anna

Despite the pretty bad title, which sounds like a clickbait headline, the book is a great guide for newbies that want to dive into photography。 This book won’t make you feel overwhelmed with a lot of difficult technical terms and will help you to understand the basics。

Vik Nikolova

A nifty little book to get some inspiration if you are an experienced photographer and also has some useful tips for beginners。

Caio Santos

Ensina os primeiros passos, dá exemplos em todas as lições, e instiga a se aprofundar e exercitar。 Fala de técnica, equipamento e visão。 Bem didático。 Perfeito para um livro inicial de fotografia。

Hedy Harper (Erin Hanton)

This was the assigned textbook for my photography 101 class, and as such I found it to be perfect。 This is one of the most informative, well formatted, concise books on photography that I’ve read。 Highly recommended。

I read this slowly, followed the advice to go out and practice when the book suggested。 I poured through the pages of photographic examples。 I'm planning to hang on to my copy to use as a reference guide and inspiration for years to come。 I read this slowly, followed the advice to go out and practice when the book suggested。 I poured through the pages of photographic examples。 I'm planning to hang on to my copy to use as a reference guide and inspiration for years to come。 。。。more

As someone who's been photographing for a while, much of the content of this book is already familiar。 It's well written though, and the book has an amazing collection of famous photographs to accompany the techniques introduced in the book。 In that way, this is basically a 5-star photo book with accompanying technical explanations! Deu vontade de treinar com a minha câmera! O livro é realmente bastante objetivo, pra quem não tem muita paciência como eu, e amplo em relação aos tipos de informação dadas, indo desde partes bastante técnicas até aquelas mais poéticas。

So many people are dismissive of the basics of anything but if you haven't grasped the basics of a subject you don't have the building blocks to go further。This lovely little book concentrates on the basics of good photography。 it doesn't spend time wittering on about nonessentials it just concentrates on explaining the fundamentals so that anyone can take good photos from day one。 So many people are dismissive of the basics of anything but if you haven't grasped the basics of a subject you don't have the building blocks to go further。This lovely little book concentrates on the basics of good photography。 it doesn't spend time wittering on about nonessentials it just concentrates on explaining the fundamentals so that anyone can take good photos from day one。 。。。more

Fun coffee table-esque book that touches on the core elements of photography without too much technical jargon。 I enjoyed the author’s voice, tone and pacing。 I also definitely took a few key tips away from the book that I have applied to my photography and some that I hope to apply in the future。 One key thing to note is that the book is geared towards DSLRs, not phone cameras necessarily or film cameras。 Also just a great collection of unique photographs!

A blog post in print form。 But a good blog post。

"Seeing is about turning on your eyes and turning off your brain" I really liked this concise guide to photography that teaches you the basics in a very helpful way。 It gives great examples and encourages you at the end of each section to go out and practice, and focuses more on photography as an art form rather than as something to try to get "perfect" in a technical sense。 "Seeing is about turning on your eyes and turning off your brain" I really liked this concise guide to photography that teaches you the basics in a very helpful way。 It gives great examples and encourages you at the end of each section to go out and practice, and focuses more on photography as an art form rather than as something to try to get "perfect" in a technical sense。 。。。more

Great book! Picked it up in the bookstore, because as an amateur photographer I look for anything to improve myself, and I'm really glad I did。 It's not dry, very immersive, and shows the nuanced points of photography, not just the technical stuff。 It tries to lead you, rather than telling you how to create a good photo。 Really I feel like these are the things (the things the writer talks about) that makes the difference between a good photographer and an outstanding one。 Great book! Perfect, succinct and comprehensive introduction to photography for beginners, as well as a thorough refresher and further enlightening guide for the hobbyist or budding professional。 The best part of all is the curation of magnificent and inspiring photos used as examples。

Clarke O'gara

Great starting point。 Covers all the fundamentals while introducing you to some great photographers。

Khanh Nguyen (Wes)

decent manual for aspiring photographers

André Fernandes

Covers the basics in a succinct and practical way。 Easy to read ( +-1h) and feels like the ideal book for amateur photographers to get a quick grasp of essential concepts without too much technical jargon。

Neil Blanchard

Simple, concise, and not at all condescending。 Pick this one up if you want photography basics。

Don Luis

Explicaciones sencillas, con ejemplos muy fáciles de entender。 Simplemente es un libro inspirador para iniciarse en la fotografía。

Eduards Kļaviņš

A bit too basic

Ruben Paz

Decent introduction to people photography。 From street photography to portraits to abstract contextual photography。 I liked mainly the examples and the explanations given with them of what made that classic a good photograph。I'll probably come back to this book from time to time。 Decent introduction to people photography。 From street photography to portraits to abstract contextual photography。 I liked mainly the examples and the explanations given with them of what made that classic a good photograph。I'll probably come back to this book from time to time。 。。。more

As a photographer, this widened my knowledge on the more intricate aspects of using a camera and composing photos。 Highly reccomend for anyone。

Una introducción clara y concisa a la fotografía。 Poco texto y muchos ejemplos visuales (esto me parece guay en un libro introductorio)。 Lo leí hace años pero lo estoy releyendo en el presente。

Its a great book written very well for people who are new to photography。 It emphasises the importance of composition, and the message within a photo It presents examples on each page, with different photographs by famous photographers。Its an easy read and the technical bits are explained in terms easy to understand。

Mike Pinter

This book fulfills what it sets out to do, explaining how cameras work to take photographs in simple terms, and turns that understanding into more than point-and-shoot photography。 It uses examples of known photographs and explains why they work, the rules that guided the artist and the rules they bent。Although it is aimed at covering digital cameras, the explanations are applicable to other cameras that allow changes to be made to the settings that control the light that is finally captured as This book fulfills what it sets out to do, explaining how cameras work to take photographs in simple terms, and turns that understanding into more than point-and-shoot photography。 It uses examples of known photographs and explains why they work, the rules that guided the artist and the rules they bent。Although it is aimed at covering digital cameras, the explanations are applicable to other cameras that allow changes to be made to the settings that control the light that is finally captured as our desired images。Those who know their way around a camera can always use the reminder and those who don't dare move out of the green mode would do well reading this book and experimenting。 。。。more

Basic but good, from the photographic eye point of view rather than an equipment point of view。
