"The horror master。。。puts his unique spin on slasher movie tropes。"-USA Today

A can't-miss summer read, selected by The New York Times Oprah Daily Time, USA Today The Philadelphia Inquirer CNN, LitHub BookRiot Bustle, Popsugar and the New York Public Library

In horror movies, the final girls are the ones left standing when the credits roll。 They made it through the worst night of their lives。。。but what happens after?

Like his bestselling novel The Southern Book Club's Guide to Slaying Vampires, Grady Hendrix's latest is a fast-paced, frightening, and wickedly humorous thriller。 From chain saws to summer camp slayers, The Final Girl Support Group pays tribute to and slyly subverts our most popular horror films--movies like The Texas Chainsaw MassacreA Nightmare on Elm Street, and Scream。

Lynnette Tarkington is a real-life final girl who survived a massacre。 For more than a decade, she's been meeting with five other final girls and their therapist in a support group for those who survived the unthinkable, working to put their lives back together。 Then one woman misses a meeting, and their worst fears are realized--someone knows about the group and is determined to rip their lives apart again, piece by piece。

But the thing about final girls is that no matter how bad the odds, how dark the night, how sharp the knife, they will never, ever give up。

I honestly hated this book and I don't like to use that word in general。 My main issue with it was that it was billed as a thriller but was really a horror book。 If you like Stephen King give this book a try。 I honestly hated this book and I don't like to use that word in general。 My main issue with it was that it was billed as a thriller but was really a horror book。 If you like Stephen King give this book a try。 。。。more

⭐️2。75⭐️Format: audiobook🎧I had high hopes for this because I absolutely loved Grady Hendrix's other book。 Wanted to DNF after 35% percent but didn't。 From the start, I couldn't get used to the narrator and felt off。 Also, I was a little confused from the start about the story。 BUT MOSTLY, I disliked Lynette's character。。。 She was SO SO SO SO paranoid (understandably but like there's a limit。。。。) and was so whiney🙃。 But honestly, I didn't really like any of the characters。 They all didn't have l ⭐️2。75⭐️Format: audiobook🎧I had high hopes for this because I absolutely loved Grady Hendrix's other book。 Wanted to DNF after 35% percent but didn't。 From the start, I couldn't get used to the narrator and felt off。 Also, I was a little confused from the start about the story。 BUT MOSTLY, I disliked Lynette's character。。。 She was SO SO SO SO paranoid (understandably but like there's a limit。。。。) and was so whiney🙃。 But honestly, I didn't really like any of the characters。 They all didn't have likeable traits。 Look, I understand after everything they've been through, they may be the way they are cause of their trauma but still。。 Just my opinion ans the characters never really grew on me。 This is a book that I have to re-read because I feel that the audiobook is what made me dislike it from the start。 。。。more

While I love watching horror films, I’ve never been a fan of horror books until reading Grady Hendrix。 The Final Girl Support Group is full of plot twists and action that will leave your head spinning and mind reeling in anticipation of what will happen next。 However, after further thinking there are a few pitfalls of this book。 It was slightly confusing to follow at times and I agree with other reviewers in that the support group plot line should be more fleshed out in the beginning to make for While I love watching horror films, I’ve never been a fan of horror books until reading Grady Hendrix。 The Final Girl Support Group is full of plot twists and action that will leave your head spinning and mind reeling in anticipation of what will happen next。 However, after further thinking there are a few pitfalls of this book。 It was slightly confusing to follow at times and I agree with other reviewers in that the support group plot line should be more fleshed out in the beginning to make for a better read。 This had the potential to be a 5 star book, but didn’t quite make the cut this time。 。。。more

A fun read。 I wasn’t sure if i liked it as first since the main characters anxiety was so encompassing that it started to stress me out too! All in all the book ended up very campy and fun。

As a fan of horror movies (especially 80’s slashers), this was such a fun read! It’s been a minute since I couldn’t put a book down, where I kept reading long after I should have because I wanted to know what happened next! This book also pulls the nostalgia strings by having the classic horror movie final girl character tropes, from Friday the 13th, Halloween, Scream, and Nightmare on Elm Street all together in a group。 I really enjoyed this!

Despite its slow build to action, FGSG delivers in both reasonable, thought-out plot twists and a message that will leave you introspective about the society we live in today。 While final girls have seemed like an overdone gimmicky trope, this book finds a way to use the trope in a way that grounds the characters to real life having you both sympathizing and disliking the characters we’ve seen done so many times in horror fiction。

Interesting plot, some cool insights into pop culture and the true crime community but nothing special。 I think a series adaptation will do much better! Overall not too bad, easy read。

Great suspense-building。 I was questioning who the culprit was all the way till the end。 Character development was a bit one-dimensional, but it is a book focused on archetypal characters, so that can be forgiven。 This would make a great movie。

Talk about a book that keeps you on your toes! Wow! This may have been the most exciting and plot twist filled novels that Ive read in a long time。 As a fair warning this book has a few chapters that are grusome, filled with blood, and extreme acts of violence against women and families。 However while I wouldnt necessarily consider it a light summer read it is a thriller that keeps you on your toes until the end。One star was deducted from the overall book due to the at tumes clumsiness of descri Talk about a book that keeps you on your toes! Really enjoyed this book and it's tribute to classic horror movies。 I think it wad a really unique view point in what the survivors of the movies would be doing 20+ years down the road。 Each woman in the book is based off of one of these characters。 It shows their struggles as middle-aged women learning to cope with the trauma from their past。 Their coping mechanisms range from paranoia, denial, alcoholism, drugs and training to never become a victim again。 After all, they are survivors。 This fo Really enjoyed this book and it's tribute to classic horror movies。 I think it wad a really unique view point in what the survivors of the movies would be doing 20+ years down the road。 Each woman in the book is based off of one of these characters。 It shows their struggles as middle-aged women learning to cope with the trauma from their past。 Their coping mechanisms range from paranoia, denial, alcoholism, drugs and training to never become a victim again。 After all, they are survivors。 This follows Lynette her role playing tribute to Silent Night, Deadly Night。 The other movies that play the back story to each woman are Friday The 13th, Scream, Halloween, Prom Night, Texas Chainsaw and A Nightmare on Elm Street。 Grady twists this into a story that works and I look forward to the HBO show they're in the process of creating based on the book。 。。。more

3。5 stars。Better than average but not great。 Sorta reminds me of how Ready Player One was all about 80s popculture, this book has a ton of horror film fun facts。It's a fun book。 Definitely plays homage to slasher films, and even has same B-movie level of quality。 That is to say, I don't think it's anything amazing or insightful。 It tries to pull some feminist themes throughout the book, but it felt phoned in to me。 (If you want a genuine go-woman survival, then I'd recommend Girl With The Dragon 3。5 stars。Better than average but not great。 Sorta reminds me of how Ready Player One was all about 80s popculture, this book has a ton of horror film fun facts。It's a fun book。 Definitely plays homage to slasher films, and even has same B-movie level of quality。 That is to say, I don't think it's anything amazing or insightful。 It tries to pull some feminist themes throughout the book, but it felt phoned in to me。 (If you want a genuine go-woman survival, then I'd recommend Girl With The Dragon Tattoo。)That being said, this is a quick and easy read, and the pacing moves the action along。 Don't expect anything poignant。 。。。more

This was a lot more graphic and violent at times than I usually read, but it wasn’t too much to handle and I see how it fit the plot which was riveting。 The pacing was perfect, I read through it quickly and it kept me guessing who all the monsters were。 A solid read for horror fans!

This book had a great twist and was suspenseful after you get half way through it。 The reason I gave it 3 stars was because it took until that halfway point for me to actually get into the book。 The first half is a little slow and the character development is a little confusing to start。

3。5 rounded down。 It was fun and well done, but probably doesn't resonate enough with me to warrant rounding up。I think it will be worth revisiting at another time, though。 3。5 rounded down。 It was fun and well done, but probably doesn't resonate enough with me to warrant rounding up。I think it will be worth revisiting at another time, though。 。。。more

Wow!! As a lover of the slasher film genre, I desperately wanted this book to live up to the hype, and I was not a bit disappointed。 The story starts with a bang and has you white-knuckling, turning pages, riding out the runaway train until the dust settles。 I loved all the tongue-in-cheek allusions to popular horror franchises and the realistic bits of ephemera included between the chapters。

I had never read a "slasher" story before, but it isn't enough like a thriller or mystery for me to enjoy。 I found the whole thing too absurd。 It started out ok enough, but I lost interest as it went on。 I almost DNFed it a few times, but felt I'd invested so much time already and would stick with it。 (However, I was barely paying attention as it ended, to be honest!)Perhaps this is just a case of me simply not being the right reader for this book。 Others seem to have enjoyed it。 I had never read a "slasher" story before, but it isn't enough like a thriller or mystery for me to enjoy。 I found the whole thing too absurd。 It started out ok enough, but I lost interest as it went on。 I almost DNFed it a few times, but felt I'd invested so much time already and would stick with it。 (However, I was barely paying attention as it ended, to be honest!)Perhaps this is just a case of me simply not being the right reader for this book。 Others seem to have enjoyed it。 。。。more
