This just isn’t as good as the more general book。 I was really looking forward to it， but there are much better stripped down portrait photography books out there。 It’s fine though。

This book gives a great overview of both the basics and tips to help more advanced photographers。 I really liked not only their examples， but also the interspersed technical tips - the latter were very clear， concise， and relevant， without being overwhelming for beginners。An excellent reference book。

Huge variety of situations， all expertly explained。 And while a fair deal of technical knowledge is assumed， the author does explore and dip into technical matters when they are particularly relevant， such as intentionally using the distortion caused by a wide angle lens （normally a bad thing） to cause a dramatic effect。Very highly recommended！
