Summary

This historic memoir by Japanese gay activist Ryousuke Nanasaki recounts his first experiences as a gay man while searching for his soulmate and eventual marriage--the first religiously recognized same-sex wedding in Japanese history。 (Original novel of essays also available from Seven Seas。)

From school crushes to awkward dating sites to finding a community, this collection of stories recounts the author's firsts as a young gay man searching for love。 Dating isn't ever easy, but that goes doubly so for Ryousuke, whose journey is full of unrequited love and many speed bumps。 But perseverance and time heals all wounds, even those of the heart。 This moving memoir by gay activist Ryousuke Nanasaki, following his historic life story, was originally released in Japan in a novel of collected essays and in a beautiful manga adaptation--now both will be available in English for the first time。

maybe its because I'm off my meds but I felt an uncontrollable urge to cry reading this thing and I only spilled a couple times but I had to hold back because there were like 20 people in my house。 and it was STILL HARD TO DO。 my god。 I need to read this again in like a month so I can have a good cry。 bio-manga/comics usually don't make me this emotional but my goodness maybe its because I'm off my meds but I felt an uncontrollable urge to cry reading this thing and I only spilled a couple times but I had to hold back because there were like 20 people in my house。 and it was STILL HARD TO DO。 my god。 I need to read this again in like a month so I can have a good cry。 bio-manga/comics usually don't make me this emotional but my goodness 。。。more

I AM CRYING! Sad, angry tears at first but happy happy tears at the end。This was such a simultaneously warm and confronting read。 This visually gorgeous and emotionally gripping manga memoir tells us of Ryousuke Nanasaki's painful journey towards accepting his sexuality and self-love in a massively queerphobic society; from dealing with unrequited love while closeted, facing comments such as "。。。it can't be cured?" to eventually throwing caution to the wind, accepting who he is and finding a I AM CRYING! This autobiographical manga was both heartbreaking and hopeful。 Seeing Ryousuke's journey from a scared and bullied child, to a man who refuses to let society and his own insecurities stand in the way of his happiness is rewarding。 Knowing this is a true story and that the lead is actively working to bring equality and joy to so many like him is beautiful。 This autobiographical manga was both heartbreaking and hopeful。 Seeing Ryousuke's journey from a scared and bullied child, to a man who refuses to let society and his own insecurities stand in the way of his happiness is rewarding。 Knowing this is a true story and that the lead is actively working to bring equality and joy to so many like him is beautiful。 。。。more

i preordered this in like november and pretty much forgot about it until now hehe, i liked it!! obviously it was non fiction, and based on memoirs, so it wasn’t the most exciting read but i still think stories like these are important :) maybe i should read the actual memoirs too, because i think it would have to be condensed to fit into a manga format。 i really liked the art style too!!!

I picked this up on a whim today while at BnB because the cover looked sweet and romantic。Oh。 My。 GOODNESS!!! I was not prepared for that roller coaster。 Before today, I knew nothing about this man, Ryousuke Nanasaki。 Now, I know that he is a real person that has been on a difficult journey with acceptance of oneself。 In BnB, I didn’t actually read the summary when I bought it。 When I picked this book up today, I read the title as “Until I MET my Husband,” and I judge a book by its cover。 I was I picked this up on a whim today while at BnB because the cover looked sweet and romantic。Oh。 My。 GOODNESS!!! This is my favorite manga。 It’s my favorite because it is real。 I saw the memoir that the manga is based on, and I got that too, and I thought “This is too tier”。 I’ve never read a manga that was essentially someone’s life and the path they go though。 More people should read this。 I am definitely going to read the memoir too。

This autobiographical manga was STUNNING!!! Not only because of the art, but because of the heart of the story。 This man went on quite the journey to finding their husband, and I honestly don't want to say too much more。 I don't want to spoil the beauty that is this manga。 Please read this one。 It's one of the best manga I have read all year。 This autobiographical manga was STUNNING!!! Beautiful, I am not good with words。 But this book made me cry a river。 I love the way they draw it。 I can feel the pain and the bittersweet of the story。 I hope I can have their happiness。
