Summary

The story revolves around three childhood friends, Yohei, Kei, and Yui, who are reunited in high school。 What appeared to be a straightforward love triangle between two boys and a girl takes an unexpected turn when Kei shows up looking and dressed like a girl。 Suddenly, Yohei is thrown into a maelstrom as he struggles between his infatuation with Yui and his lust for Kei。

In this story of adolescent awakening, perversion, and love, Oshimi takes a bold approach and sets out to explore the boundaries of gender, sexuality, and identity。

I really nose dived the moment I opened my eyes。 I knew I missed on a lot, I could have finished all volumes last night。 Augh, such a waste。 And it's Monday! Forgive me, I had no proper sleep for days。 This is all Rainbow Rowell's fault! Kidding。 Anyway, augh, I swear anything Oshimi creates is goat。 AND THE PREMISE OF THIS SERIES IS JUST UP MY ALLEY。 THIS IS IT! OH GOSH, SENSEI。 AND THE ART STYLE, GETS BETTER AND BETTER。 I SWEAR OSHIMI'S HAND IS GOLDEN。I mean, Oshimi already wrote a gender-bender once, Inside Mari, but this is different, and kind of tame compared to that series and his other series。 But well, it's only starting, who am I to talk? This is gonna be painful like I haven't seen Oshimi in action for how many of his series now that I read?Yohei is pining for his childhood friend Mitani, and unfortunately, Mitani has feelings for their childhood friend Kei。When Yohei accidentally saw the confession and Kei kissing Mitani, he was so shocked and hurt that he ignored them both over the holidays。 And when he came back to school, Kei had already transferred school。Fast forward to senior high school, Kei came back。 And he quitted being a boy and now dressing as a girl—but it didn't mean that he's going to be a girl。 And then he goes to both kissing Mitani and Yohei。。。 What happened to Kei during those 3 years he was gone? For whom was his heart set on, really?I could have sworn this was boys love when I first gulped down the few pages, and then I realized we're reading Oshimi here。 It's going to be mind torture first before I get my boys love in the end。 Anyway。。。。 I love the chemistry, my gosh! 。。。more

I am so uncomfortable, but so fascinated with where this story wants to go。

'Welcome Back, Alice' is a childhood love triangle that gets extra complicated by the central figure returning in high school with a declaration that they're not a guy any longer -- but a manipulative interest in 'helping' the three of them be close to one another anyway。 I don't know where the story is going to end up, but sometimes you just love to see a character defy gender and cause problems on purpose, and this is definitely that。 'Welcome Back, Alice' is a childhood love triangle that gets extra complicated by the central figure returning in high school with a declaration that they're not a guy any longer -- but a manipulative interest in 'helping' the three of them be close to one another anyway。 I don't know where the story is going to end up, but sometimes you just love to see a character defy gender and cause problems on purpose, and this is definitely that。 。。。more

3。5 starsCW: Sexuality between high school students, Masterbation, Mis-gendering, BullyingOkay, I am so torn with my review for this one。 Oshimi is a manga-ka I really love, and I appreciate that they write such honest and dark topics。 This one follows three students who were friends in middle school, and split up when they go to high school。 Then, one of them comes back named Kei。 And Kei has changed their appearance and says that they no longer are a boy。 I can't speak on the representation in 3。5 starsCW: Sexuality between high school students, Masterbation, Mis-gendering, BullyingOkay, I am so torn with my review for this one。 Oshimi is a manga-ka I really love, and I appreciate that they write such honest and dark topics。 This one follows three students who were friends in middle school, and split up when they go to high school。 Then, one of them comes back named Kei。 And Kei has changed their appearance and says that they no longer are a boy。 I can't speak on the representation in this one, but it doesn't use a lot of the language that is typically in these kinds of stories。 So, be aware of that。 I feel like I need to read a couple more volumes before I can really give an honest opinion of the series, so I will continue it。 The mangaka also has an afterward where they discuss their own identity, so I'm curious to see where this one goes。 。。。more

I admire Oshimi’s ability to tackle uncomfortable topics that feel taboo, but I wish his characters weren’t so cruel and/or unlikable。 I’m interested in seeing where this series goes, though。

Oshimi is seriously a hit and miss。 Devil Esctacy (Kodansha, 2022) was an absolute wtf fest that I wouldn't reccomend。 Blood on the Tracks / Chi no Wadachi is a suspenceful masterpiece。 Can't say anything about Flower of Evil cause I haven't read it yet, but considering how popular and acclaimed it is, I assume it's good? 3。5Weirder than blood on the tracks already? The end where Shuzo Oshimi talks about some of the inspo has me curious, but I’m also super repulsed and curious from this ones contents already。

This start wasn't as good as some of Oshim's other work but still interesting enough。 Yohei has a mega crush on a girl。 Girl likes Yohei best friend。 Yohei get mad at friend and friend leaves for a few years and comes back dressed up as a girl。 It's weird。 It's not clear what the friend's goal is。 Says they are done being a guy。 But also not a girl。 But it seems like it's all to tease both Yohei and the girl。 It seems more mean than actually interest in either one。 I'll see where this one goes a This start wasn't as good as some of Oshim's other work but still interesting enough。 Yohei has a mega crush on a girl。 Girl likes Yohei best friend。 Yohei get mad at friend and friend leaves for a few years and comes back dressed up as a girl。 It's weird。 It's not clear what the friend's goal is。 Says they are done being a guy。 But also not a girl。 But it seems like it's all to tease both Yohei and the girl。 It seems more mean than actually interest in either one。 I'll see where this one goes and read volume 2。 。。。more

Yup, this was definitely written by Oshimi。 He likes to add in a lot of the same stuff in his work haha。 The story is intriguing but it’s a slow slow dive。 I know obviously everything can’t be explained and revealed right away but I wish the lace was a tad faster。 The second volume will be the determine factor on whether I continue this series or not。 It wasn’t

I really don't know what to say about this series。 Without it being horror, it is somehow one of the most disturbing things I've ever read。 It made me feel disgusted reading it。 It's definitely not for the faint of heart。 If you read it, keep in mind that it has the trope of transgender sexual harasser/predator, and a lot of sexually dubious content or downright sexual assault。 Plus, the sexual content and plot is about teenagers。 That is a no-go for me in media, but I am trying to ignore it for I really don't know what to say about this series。 Without it being horror, it is somehow one of the most disturbing things I've ever read。 It made me feel disgusted reading it。 It's definitely not for the faint of heart。 If you read it, keep in mind that it has the trope of transgender sexual harasser/predator, and a lot of sexually dubious content or downright sexual assault。 Plus, the sexual content and plot is about teenagers。 That is a no-go for me in media, but I am trying to ignore it for the sake of how it is as a series。 I'm sure there is a lot of appeal to some people, but really, I don't know what else to say besides 'disturbing'。I understand and grasp the intent and reasons the author has for writing this, but I don't think it's executed very well。 I was told this was an interesting queer manga, hence I started reading it, so if you're looking for queer manga, I don't recommend this at all。 Instead of being a good disection of male and compulsive sexuality, especially at developing ages like the teen years, it just comes across as predatory, creepy, uncomfortable, and disturbing。 I wouldn't recommend it but it's definitely not the worst thing I've read。 。。。more

This is uncomfortable。 Oshimi's reason for writing it may be admirable (to deconstruct male desire and masculine sexuality), but the execution is unpleasant as Kei preys on his former childhood friends for no real reason while leaning into harmful stereotypes of what it means to be trans or nonbinary。 There are better queer manga out there。 This is uncomfortable。 Oshimi's reason for writing it may be admirable (to deconstruct male desire and masculine sexuality), but the execution is unpleasant as Kei preys on his former childhood friends for no real reason while leaning into harmful stereotypes of what it means to be trans or nonbinary。 There are better queer manga out there。 。。。more

i'm pretty surprised by the reviews but i think it's great that the mangaka discussed about the field of gender in his manga, that's why i give this book quite a good review。 despite that, i know the other topics that the mangaka drawing can be irking in some ways for some readers。 i'm pretty surprised by the reviews but i think it's great that the mangaka discussed about the field of gender in his manga, that's why i give this book quite a good review。 despite that, i know the other topics that the mangaka drawing can be irking in some ways for some readers。 。。。more

As all oshimi's previous series, we have:Bland school setting ✅The pervy/dumb/obnoxious male lead ✅The first glance nice girl that turned out to be a battshit crazy bitch ✅The manipulative horny ass bitch ✅But this time the manipulative bitch is gender fluid。 It could be a good thing if Kei's personality didn't make him just like Mari, or the girl from aku no Hana, or Sei's mom etc etc。 And it's funny (not to say "misogynistic") that Kei's journey to find himself as a person is by being a horrib As all oshimi's previous series, we have:Bland school setting ✅The pervy/dumb/obnoxious male lead ✅The first glance nice girl that turned out to be a battshit crazy bitch ✅The manipulative horny ass bitch ✅But this time the manipulative bitch is gender fluid。 It could be a good thing if Kei's personality didn't make him just like Mari, or the girl from aku no Hana, or Sei's mom etc etc。 And it's funny (not to say "misogynistic") that Kei's journey to find himself as a person is by being a horrible woman。。。 Like every single female lead oshimi wrote that I've known ofIt's the same story every time。 That's what I would call lack of creativity。 If you're a girl, and have read other works by this author like me。。。 pls, add me? This is a review of the first ten chapters of this series。 They all probably fall in the first volume。This following meme summarizes the story so far:This is another one in a now reasonably long list or less disturbing sexual stuff。 Most of the male protagonists are the kind of introverted manga MCs that become a stuttering mess whenever anything cute with a pulse looks their way。 Those main characters are usually infatuated with a very beautiful girl with long hair, but there's also a short haired girl involved somehow, and that short haired girl is the devil as far as the status quo of the story is concerned。Pictured: Sawa Nakamura, the sociopathic goddess of the author's "The Flowers of Evil"There's usually enough conceptual variation in his stories to keep that disturbing vibe fresh。 Sometimes one of the members of the romantic trio is a blackmailing sociopath ("The Flowers of Evil")。 Or maybe the trio gets sent to another dimension ("Drifting Net Café")。 Or some of the characters switch bodies ("Inside Mari")。 Or a percentage of the protagonists are vampires ("Happiness")。 Or one of the members of the romantic trio is the protagonist's own mother, who is fucking nuts ("A Trail of Blood")。 Except for his very early "Drifting Net Café", which was mostly shit and I didn't bother finishing, the rest of his stories are the kind of cursed stuff I love, to the extent that the author is probably my second favorite mangaka after "Oyasumi Punpun"'s Inio Asano。 However, given that "Oyasumi Punpun" pretty much broke Asano's spirit and his heart hasn't been in it for the last few years, I look forward more to Oshimi's new stuff。Anyway, in this series I'm reviewing we have a pathetic main character who becomes a stuttering mess whenever he faces a cute being with a pulse。 The guy is obsessed with a beautiful classmate of his and wants to ravage her sexually, if you know what I mean。 The protagonist has a male best friend who is far prettier than he has any right being。 This friend is troublingly pushy about figuring out whether the protagonist masturbates properly。 Thanks to this friend's insight, the protagonist, who is a middle schooler or something at that point, manages to cum to his mental sequences of that beautiful classmate he wants to deflower。 However, the girl eventually confesses her infatuation with the pretty male friend of the protagonist。 After the pathetic MC witnesses his friend kissing his object of affection (although the friend did it as a test, for reasons), the protagonist can't deal with the rejection, and refuses to interact with them any longer。 The pretty male friend moves away suddenly, and that seems to be all as far as his uncomfortable prettiness and troublesome interest for other people's masturbatory habits are concerned。Three years later the protagonist ends up attending high school with the beautiful classmate he wanted。 However, an alluring blonde approaches the protagonist with a very carefree and flirtatious demeanour。 This supposedly new character doesn't shy away from admitting to their entire class that it's the pretty male friend from before。 It seems he got tired of being so pretty as a guy, and now he wears a blonde wig (I assume it's a wig, at least) and dresses with female clothes。 More significantly, though, this epiphanic rejection of his male nature gave the fellow the impression that he's free to rape other people's personal boundaries, because from then on he's more often than not either fondling and/or kissing the protagonist, or even the beautiful classmate, who is mostly horrified about the guy she had a crush on having returned as a female of sorts。The protagonist had spent his last three years surviving psychologically through furious masturbation。 Now that he has awakened to his main purpose as a man, that of filling as many warm holes as possible with his cum, he's disturbed by how hard he gets whenever this former male pal, who is now a pretty girl of sorts, shoves his damn tongue into the protagonist's mouth, or even goes as far as fondling his high schooler genitals。 It seems this friend was always in love with the protagonist, even though the protagonist is pathetic。 So the whole thing about this story is something like whether it is gae to fuck your male former best friend if he now looks like a pretty girl and is also constantly trying to get you to ravage his boy pussy。 The beautiful female is also warming up to date the protagonist for some reason。Pretty cool so far。 Unfortunately, "The Flowers of Evil" > "A Trail of Blood" > "Inside Mari" > "Happiness" > "Welcome Back Alice" > "Drifting Net Café"。 。。。more

Oshimi being Oshimi。 So far, this reads like Flowers of Evil if Nakamura was a crossdressing boy whose return messes with his childhood friends' perceptions and feelings (I use the pronoun "him" as that's what's mostly used in the manga)。 I can see some viewing this as problematic, but so far all the themes have been handled well in my opinion。 This manga seems to want to explore sexuality, gender identity, lust vs love, and of course perversion and morality because it wouldn't be an Oshimi mang Oshimi being Oshimi。 So far, this reads like Flowers of Evil if Nakamura was a crossdressing boy whose return messes with his childhood friends' perceptions and feelings (I use the pronoun "him" as that's what's mostly used in the manga)。 I can see some viewing this as problematic, but so far all the themes have been handled well in my opinion。 This manga seems to want to explore sexuality, gender identity, lust vs love, and of course perversion and morality because it wouldn't be an Oshimi manga without that duo。 As of the first volume, Oshimi is slowly dipping into each topic, but how deep he will get and the amount of respect he will handle it with remains to be seen。 。。。more
