Summary

⭐️4。25 i absolutely adored this book。 i will have to say that at times i felt it was moving a little fast， but it wasn’t a major issue。 i loved this author’s first book so it was no surprise i liked this as well！

i feel like it’s almost not fair for me to review this book right now。 i just happened to read this immediately after Every Summer After （which is now one of my favorite books ever） bc i’m broke and this is on KU。 they’re definitely very different， but with the same kind of premise （second chance love， alleged unrequited life-long family-friend crushes， then and now chapters， east coast summer house on the water， etc。 etc。） it almost had no chance through no fault of its own。 BUT this was a very i feel like it’s almost not fair for me to review this book right now。 i just happened to read this immediately after Every Summer After （which is now one of my favorite books ever） bc i’m broke and this is on KU。 they’re definitely very different， but with the same kind of premise （second chance love， alleged unrequited life-long family-friend crushes， then and now chapters， east coast summer house on the water， etc。 etc。） it almost had no chance through no fault of its own。 BUT this was a very sweet book。 i loved the characters and their connection。 the last minute hail mary conflict felt a little trivial to me but the ending was very satisfying。 not as good as every summer after but still a 5 star read for me 。。。more

Oh my god， I haven’t read a book this great and made my heart race since Love and Other Words。 Completely fell in love with every single character， not David。 I am obsessed with Will I want to marry this man he is such a sweetheart with the biggest heart and genuinely cares about and loves Violet so much enough put her before anyone and anything else and even encourages her to prioritize her own mental health？！？！ Violet is such a beautiful character and I just never related to one so much with s Oh my god， I haven’t read a book this great and made my heart race since Love and Other Words。 Completely fell in love with every single character， not David。 I am obsessed with Will I want to marry this man he is such a sweetheart with the biggest heart and genuinely cares about and loves Violet so much enough put her before anyone and anything else and even encourages her to prioritize her own mental health？！？！ Violet is such a beautiful character and I just never related to one so much with similar hobbies and artist’s block， I loved seeing her growth and effort and stages of grief。 This book was a quick read and had the most beautiful words。 Adding to my all-time-favorite reads。 。。。more

This book follows Violet and Will， childhood best friends whose two families have been incredibly close and spend each summer together at a beach house that both families own。 One summer， something happens that divides both families and none of them speak for 5 years， including the main protagonists， Violet and Will。 You get to see both what had happened that summer， and how things progress in the present day， when Violet and Will are unexpectedly brought together for the entire summer。 Initiall This book follows Violet and Will， childhood best friends whose two families have been incredibly close and spend each summer together at a beach house that both families own。 One summer， something happens that divides both families and none of them speak for 5 years， including the main protagonists， Violet and Will。 You get to see both what had happened that summer， and how things progress in the present day， when Violet and Will are unexpectedly brought together for the entire summer。 Initially， I enjoyed this book。 I loved the mystery of ‘what happened’ that left Violet so traumatized that she dropped her passions， and how Will had been involved。 It had everything that I look for in a book plot。 However， the execution was off for me。 The plot was very superficial for me， the author didn’t really dig deep on any of the heavier plot points of the story， despite it being the entire catalyst to why these two families were so distant。 I also found both main characters to be rather unlikeable and ran on the annoying side for me。 Violet， though understandably， is going through a lot emotionally in the story but I felt that she didn’t have much personality， despite being the only viewpoint that you get to see。She goes on for pages about how she can’t get through this event from 5 years ago。 And Will; he’s so smug and arrogant that he spends half the book believing he knows what’s best for everyone （violet）。 I really enjoyed the flashback scenes to the summer five years ago， however。 They were light， fun， added much needed character development and depth。 You get to see how strong the character’s bond was back then， and what the family dynamic was。 It was just everything else that really didn’t sit as well with me。 If you like friends to lovers， forced proximity， less spice but more romance and tension， then you might like this book， so it’s still worth a read。 。。。more

I’m easily falling in love with this author’s writing。 While this book didn’t hit me as hard in the heart as her first， I loved it all the same。 I loved the story being told from two ways - present time and 5 years ago。 It really had me struggling to put it down how she led the present tense chapters into the past tense ones。 I constantly was seeking for the answers to “why” and “what happened” from the beginning。 It was easy to get hooked。 Can’t wait to see what she comes out with next！

4。5⭐️ if you like love and other words by Christina Lauren you’ll love this book too！ Childhood friends to lovers to strangers to lovers is a top tier trope。 I’ll be honest I guessed pretty early on what made them become strangers but I still enjoyed this book。 Those letters at the end really tug at the heart strings🥺
