Me encanta toda la historia, y el final es muy bueno。 Creo que este es el año más normal de Harry en Hogwarts

This is my favorite Harry Potter book。 It's the book that made me a real fan of the series, and it's the book that gave me my favorite character in that universe, Sirius Black。I was very much struck, this time, with Snape's correct assessment of Harry's character flaws。 He says, "famous Harry Potter is a law unto himself。 Let the ordinary people worry about his safety! Famous Harry Potter goes where he wants to, with no thought for the consequences" (p。 284)。 How right you are, Snape! Harry really does think he can do just about anything, and so far, he's gotten out of some bad scrapes pretty handily that he wouldn't have really needed to get out of if he hadn't gotten himself into them in the first place。 This is a common thing in kids books, where kids just ignore the wise adults and go their merry way and solve everything on their own by doing ridiculously dangerous things。 I'm glad Rowling addresses that issue in her series, that she shows that this is NOT a good way to go about things, especially as the series progresses。 Yes, Harry is not an ordinary boy。。。 but he's also only a boy。 And his stubborn belief that He Knows Best does have serious consequences at times。 As Lupin says about himself and his friends at Harry's age, "We were young, thoughtless -- carried away with our own cleverness" (p。 355)。 It's a dangerous business, being young and thinking you're invincible。 。。。more

Me encanto!

3 Stars, had the potential and ruined itThe third entry into the harry potter series is undoubtedly the best so far and it does make improvements on the flaws of the previous two。 In fact, I was ready to state this book made vast improvements on the two previous, however, this opinion is let down by the drastic way this book falls off in its ending which left me disappointed and dejected。I was incredibly pleased with JK changing up the formula of her story by not spending too much time with the 3 Stars, had the potential and ruined itThe third entry into the harry potter series is undoubtedly the best so far and it does make improvements on the flaws of the previous two。 In fact, I was ready to state this book made vast improvements on the two previous, however, this opinion is let down by the drastic way this book falls off in its ending which left me disappointed and dejected。I was incredibly pleased with JK changing up the formula of her story by not spending too much time with the Dursleys and not repeating a repetitive cycle we have seen twice already。 This provided a much-needed injection of pace into the novel which worked rather well。 This is complemented by the fact JK has finally started writing action- albeit, through annoying commentator dialogue, we do get tension and excitement throughout the book where in the previous entry the narrator would have stunted the moment。 These are particularly effective in the aforementioned quidditch scene and also the meeting with Sirius and Lupin。 Moreover, the use of dementors and accurate representation of the feeling of depression was an example of the writing skill I know JK clearly has but often lets down by silly lapses in narrative planning and construction, much like she does here。Also, I found the overall setting of this novel to be compelling, Sirus and Lupin are well developed and interesting and the poker game JK sets up of Sirius being after Harry and him being in danger sets up tension throughout which keeps the reader engaged。 I can wholeheartedly say when this was being built up- through the usual activities of school life characteristic of any Harry Potter book, I remained interested and engaged as JK drip-fed me enough to get me through scenes within the book that traditionally I would consider pointless as technically they do not advance the plot。However, as always (it seems) with JK these strong positives that set the book up so well are tightly married with a co-existing negative。 The premise of Sirius and Lupin which is what the book is supposed to be about, literally fills 20% of the narrative, if that, and instead is trumped by lots of needless side plots that ultimately do not culminate in anything, other than ANOTHER house win for Griffindor, speaking of which; the other houses still remain completely obsolete- which again is a complete waste of potential。 When the confrontation between Sirius, Snape, Lupin and the others is unfolding- the tension is brilliant and as a reader, I was captivated。 Its such a shame this moment is ruined by the culmination of the story which I feel is a total cop-out。 Once again Harry is rescued by an unknown force after royally messing up his self-affirmed mission。 This force, this time, was harry himself, however, this cannot be considered a positive as after JK makes a commitment with the resolution of the dementor attack, she cheaply retcons her own writing by introducing time travel into the story。 I audibly sighed at this point as time travel as a concept in a narrative has to be carefully placed and not used lightly。 However, here it is used heavy-handedly to get JK out of a hole she has written herself into。 This is so disappointing as the book was peaking incredibly strongly a mere few chapters before; the inclusion of time travel, which although was reasonably well dealt with by JK, introduces several plot holes into the narrative- one of which being why at all was Hermione allowed to use such an item- if not for plot convenience。 Also, despite the isolated action of the rescue being delt well in terms of the paradoxical nature of time travel, leaving few, if any loopholes (I think), the same cannot be said as to then the implications the reader can bring up of Hermione using it for lessons。 This is why the inclusion of time travel is annoying and I see it as a cop-out, as it messes with previous continuity and raises questions that should not be raised had it not been written in as a cheap plot solver, when in reality what she had was serviceable enough。Now addressing the characters themselves, the resounding positive of this novel was Lupin, who was well developed and had faucets to his character the titular boy could only dream of。 After three books I have concluded Harry Potter is whiney and annoying and possesses no real talent at all- aside from being able to throw a broom about a pitch。 This is extremely disconcerting as, yes we do find out about the situations leading up to and behind the infamous Harry Potter, however, that cannot be considered character development for the person himself。 After three books of being with this character, we still know little about him other than the fact he has a poor temper, is a sore loser and has no real affinity with magic (unless the plot deems it so- an example of this being his repeated efforts to cast a potronum and failure when in danger, yet future Harry was able to do it inexplicably in the moment with a level of power not seen before)。 This is extremely annoying as I feel this story does not revolve around Harry but rather we are experiencing a story that is revolving continuously behind our titular character which he does not affect at all with his actions。 One could state Harry could be any member of the school we never interact with and all of the previous events up till this point would have still happened。 This is not good as it renders the main character useless and in fact in the way of what is actually interesting within the story。 Also, JK does a complete disservice to the Snape character she went out of her way to build up in the concluding moments of the first book。 None of his actions after he bursts in on Sirius are concurrent with his character so far and indeed a more satisfying ending would be that Snape rescues them all from the dementors- then uses his excuses (as per the plot), as opposed to him just making something up seemingly because of a grudge。 This doesn't fit his character at all and left a bad taste in my mouth。 However, it must be noted Hermione was notably less obnoxious in this entry and commanded sympathy on more than one occasion。 This is however strange as I do not buy the friendship between the three of them。 Harry and Ron are horrible to her throughout as well as Hermione being obnoxious in the previous books, they are friends by circumstance and I haven't really seen any elements of true friendship yet。 Also, the complete disregard to Neville is appalling, as JK put the effort in to have a string of unique and interesting characters yet manages them so poorly in favor of a plain protagonist, with a best friend with no serviceable personality and a girl that solves all their problems- so much so she often has to be sidelined。My final issue with the book is after deviating from her formula so well at the start, JK regresses back into old habits returning Harry to the Dursleys when after three books this may become stale。 She had shown she was ready to switch up the formula from the start so this decision was mildly annoying, to say the least。Jk's third Potter book is the strongest so far, however, it is let down as it progresses。 Once again I find myself lamenting at the wasted potential of this book when considering how it is composed。 Strong JKisms remain (like Harry calling Hogwarts the "safest place for him," which is undoubtedly not true nor an ironic inclusion by the author), and it is these problems that keep stunting the books to an average rating。 I had hoped some of these will disappear but unfortunately, they seem to be a common trend。(This review is written blind of the books proceeding this entry as it is my first read-through)。 。。。more

I started rereading this book--my favorite in the series--in December 2019, and it took me a year and a half to finish it。 Not because I wasn't in the mood to read or didn't have the time, but because JK Rowling has made it really difficult to feel good about reading the series that made me fall in love with books some 20 odd years ago。 I understand separating the art from the artist (this is still a great work of art), but the chapter where Professor Lupin teaches how to confront a Boggart by m I started rereading this book--my favorite in the series--in December 2019, and it took me a year and a half to finish it。 Not because I wasn't in the mood to read or didn't have the time, but because JK Rowling has made it really difficult to feel good about reading the series that made me fall in love with books some 20 odd years ago。 I understand separating the art from the artist (this is still a great work of art), but the chapter where Professor Lupin teaches how to confront a Boggart by mixing your fears into something silly, and the first example we see is Professor Snape in Neville's grandmother's clothing, my mind couldn't help but to to the reprehensible things JK Rowling has said about trans people on her massive social media platform where people from all walks of life go to find out how wizards go to the bathroom and other things that weren't specifically addressed in the books。I am not sure when I will revisit Harry Potter again, but it won't be for a while, which is disappointing。 I am glad to have Prisoner of Azkaban off my Currently Reading shelf, and am forever grateful that George Lucas doesn't use Twitter。 。。。more

Apart from the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione, what fascinates us are the new characters like Grindylows, Hippogrif, Animagus, Boggart which the author brings to life。 Also the throwback link to Whomping willow and it’s underground passage shows the author kept room for weaving stories with each of placeholders from earlier books。 The emotional angle (Sirius the Godfather) interspersed with Magic keeps reminding us of our own relationships。 Jim Kay’s illustrations are so much livelier。 Without Apart from the trio of Harry, Ron and Hermione, what fascinates us are the new characters like Grindylows, Hippogrif, Animagus, Boggart which the author brings to life。 Also the throwback link to Whomping willow and it’s underground passage shows the author kept room for weaving stories with each of placeholders from earlier books。 The emotional angle (Sirius the Godfather) interspersed with Magic keeps reminding us of our own relationships。 Jim Kay’s illustrations are so much livelier。 Without same, imagination may have had to work a lot。 The movie doesn’t do even half justice to this book with so many subplots and chapters being omitted。 Wish some director makes a mini series on each of these books。 。。。more
