Summary

Poe's just hanging around on a Saturday afternoon。。。

Dangling from a hook in a meat packing plant isn't how Detective Sergeant Washington Poe wants to spend his weekend。 He's been punched and kicked and threatened, and when a contract killer arrives it seems things are about to go from bad to worse。 He goes by the name of the Pale Man and he and his straight-edged razor have been feared all over London for twenty years。

But Poe knows two things the Pale Man doesn't。 Although it might seem like a hopeless situation, Poe has planned to be here all along。 More importantly, a nerdy, computer whizz-kid called Tilly Bradshaw is watching his back。 And now things are about to get interesting 。 。 。

I loved this quick read, an introduction to a new author and a grumpy but clever detective Washington Poe and his extremely clever computer heal Tilly - need to buy the rest of these now!

A novella in the Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw series, where Poe is called to the gory murder of the director of a charity。 I enjoyed the story, but I was confused by the writing style, which seemed that of a children’s book except for the blood and gore… until I reached the end and saw it was intended for people who don’t generally read much or well。 Then it all made sense。

This was a short story that showcases one particular case where another agency requests Poe and the gang to become involved in。 I will admit that I have been diligently searching for ANY audio from this series and at this point I have only found the second book (Black Summer) and THIS short story on audio。 So, because I did find this one, I was looking forward to being able to listen。As I mentioned before it is a short story, but it does showcase both Poe and Tilly as they go to some undercover This was a short story that showcases one particular case where another agency requests Poe and the gang to become involved in。 I will admit that I have been diligently searching for ANY audio from this series and at this point I have only found the second book (Black Summer) and THIS short story on audio。 So, because I did find this one, I was looking forward to being able to listen。As I mentioned before it is a short story, but it does showcase both Poe and Tilly as they go to some undercover lengths to solve the case。 There is a cameo by a character that we have met previously who happens to hate Washington Poe, and their investigation results in a surprising yet wonderful conclusion。I was saddened that this story was so quick, and honestly, it really isn't up to the level of the full books, but since it was available on audio, I was happy to be able to take what I could get。 。。。more

I really enjoyed this short crime mystery thriller。 It starts off with an old lady who stepped in front of a train which ensues in a domino effect which will include a bent cop, a contract killer who is known as the pale man and a money laundering gang。Washington Poe is the lead Detective Sergeant in the National Crime Agency along with his friend Tilly Bradshaw who is a whizz-kid with computers unite in a brilliant plan to get the result they have been looking for。 I loved how Blue Tooth had a I really enjoyed this short crime mystery thriller。 It starts off with an old lady who stepped in front of a train which ensues in a domino effect which will include a bent cop, a contract killer who is known as the pale man and a money laundering gang。Washington Poe is the lead Detective Sergeant in the National Crime Agency along with his friend Tilly Bradshaw who is a whizz-kid with computers unite in a brilliant plan to get the result they have been looking for。 I loved how Blue Tooth had a big hand in this investigation。 Apparently Blue Tooth derived from King Harold of Denmark and Norway。 。。。more

Brilliant instalment in the Poe and Tilly series。

3。5/5 starsIt was a great book but I tend to dislike stories that are on the shorter side。 I love how this book was very humorous from the start, with sarcastic and witty comments from the main characters。 It’s enlightening reading more casual comedy books (though I don’t know if this was intended as such)。I’d recommend this just because it is a quick read and only took me roughly an hour to finish。

5 stars。Anything involving Poe & Tilly always ends up hilariously good。 Being just over 100 pages long means that this one onviously lacks the depth of the full-length novels, and I missed Flynn's exasperation, but it was a fun hour spent on Sunday evening regardless。 The case was, again pretty understandably, was relatively straightforward but once again I loved the teamwork between Poe and Tilly, especially the demonstration of how steadfastly they have one another's backs。 5 stars。Anything involving Poe & Tilly always ends up hilariously good。 Being just over 100 pages long means that this one onviously lacks the depth of the full-length novels, and I missed Flynn's exasperation, but it was a fun hour spent on Sunday evening regardless。 The case was, again pretty understandably, was relatively straightforward but once again I loved the teamwork between Poe and Tilly, especially the demonstration of how steadfastly they have one another's backs。 。。。more

I'm not normally a reader of short stories or novellas, but this was M W Craven, so an exception had to be made。 and was very justified。 it obviously lacked the depth and description that one would expect in a full-length novel, but it was still the usual expected great read I'm not normally a reader of short stories or novellas, but this was M W Craven, so an exception had to be made。 and was very justified。 it obviously lacked the depth and description that one would expect in a full-length novel, but it was still the usual expected great read 。。。more

Sometimes novelists shine in the long format but no so well with short stories。 Happy to report that M。W。 Craven dazzles no matter then length of the tale。 Short, sweet and all you expect from Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw。 Keeps me going until The Botanist is published。

A Quick Read, so just a short story really, but I enjoy these characters in any format

Such a lovely story that I really enjoyed。 I love the Quickreads books。 They are a brilliant way to try new authors that you've never maybe tried before and I will certainly be looking at MW Craven again。 I really like the story of Sergent Poe and Tilly the wonderful computer hacker and tech extraordinaire。 It was a quick story but kept me hooked from the first page。 Loved it。 Such a lovely story that I really enjoyed。 I love the Quickreads books。 They are a brilliant way to try new authors that you've never maybe tried before and I will certainly be looking at MW Craven again。 I really like the story of Sergent Poe and Tilly the wonderful computer hacker and tech extraordinaire。 It was a quick story but kept me hooked from the first page。 Loved it。 。。。more

Thank you Mr Craven。 A quick nugget of Poe - brilliant!

Really enjoyed this book and then to find out it’s actually part of a series made it even better。 Can’t wait to read the others in the series now :)

Claire

Not quite as good as MW Craven’s usual Washing Poe books but that is because it is is a ‘quick reads’ and therefore can’t go into much detail and feels rushed。 :(

Love the characters of Washington Poe and Tilly Bradshaw, such a good team。 Great story, easy read and a couple of twists thrown in。 Loved it。

My first Craven and I think this is not a good starting point for someone new to his work。I didn't see anything special with Poe, and Tilly is the one doing all the heavy-lifting。 Surely Poe is better than this?3。5 stars My first Craven and I think this is not a good starting point for someone new to his work。I didn't see anything special with Poe, and Tilly is the one doing all the heavy-lifting。 Surely Poe is better than this?3。5 stars 。。。more

What Is Chelle Reading

Poe's plan for the weekend didn't include having from a meat hook surrounded by gang members who want to kill him but his life doeesn't ever go as planned。 Everyone knows I love a Poe and Tilly book and I love the fact that Mike Craven delights us with little short novellas in between books from time to time! I've missed the banter of these characters so much so it was great to have a little refresher before The Botanist comes out! I can't wait! Superb。 All the twists of one of M。W。 Craven's brilliant novels but in a condensed form。 Well written, super story for someone to try as a taster。 Superb。 All the twists of one of M。W。 Craven's brilliant novels but in a condensed form。 Well written, super story for someone to try as a taster。 。。。more

Excellent Poe & Bradshaw short read

Helen Millen

Was okish

Mark

Very funny。 May have to read the longer novels。

Frances

This Quick Reads novella has been a good taster to tide me over until the next full novel。 There can never be the detail of a longer story but there was still the humour, danger and great relationship between Poe and Tilly。

Stefan Grieve

Grim and sometimes gross, this is a compelling enough story, although it deals with a problematic stereotype (an evil albino) and some predictable, long drawn out scenes。 I liked Tilly, though。

Bethan Vaughan

Rubbish read。
