Summary

She had been forced into prudence in her youth, she learned romance as she grew older: the natural sequel of an unnatural beginning。

Anne Elliot is persuaded by her friends and family to reject a marriage proposal from Captain Wentworth because he lacks in fortune and rank。 More than seven years later, when he returns home from the Navy, Anne realises she still has strong feelings for him, but Wentworth only appears to have eyes for a friend of Anne's。 Moving, tender, but intrinsically 'Austen' in style, with its satirical portrayal of the vanity of society in the 18th-century England, Persuasion celebrates enduring love, hope and determination as one woman strives to reignite a lost relationship。

This was a reread following a short course on Jane Austen which made me realise that there were two of her books that I had a poor memory of; Sense and Sensibility and Persuasion。 The only thing I could remember was an accident on the Cobb at Lyme involving a female character。 I liked and admired the main character Anne, she has so much patience and forbearance, and she does not seem to let her families opinion of her affect her self esteem。 It was well worth the reread。

Mon cœur。 So incredibly tender, hopeful, pure。

The first half was slow, and I was almost discouraged by it。 But it eventually won me over, and I ended up being very impressed with it。 I have a soft spot for second chance romances。 I think one of my favorite parts of this book is at the very end when it's revealed to Lady Russell how mistaken she was about the character of Mr。 Elliott and that of Mr。 Wentworth as well。 It's wise not to judge a person based on first impressions。 Some of the worst human beings may be very charming。 Some of the The first half was slow, and I was almost discouraged by it。 But it eventually won me over, and I ended up being very impressed with it。 I have a soft spot for second chance romances。 I think one of my favorite parts of this book is at the very end when it's revealed to Lady Russell how mistaken she was about the character of Mr。 Elliott and that of Mr。 Wentworth as well。 It's wise not to judge a person based on first impressions。 Some of the worst human beings may be very charming。 Some of the best may be socially awkward at first。 So, I love that Austen threw that little lesson in there。 Also, and most importantly, it's much better to follow your heart and be happy than to listen to another's advice just to keep the peace。 。。。more

I liked the second-chance love story, and the two of them as characters, but I am sad to say that Florence Pugh was a disappointing narrator for this one。 So flat and unemotional, almost robotic in some instances。

3。5 // Jane Austen truly knows how to slayyy a romance like no other。 I do prefer P&P but I am 10000% biased solely due to the 2005 film。 Oh well。

Wow this was long winded。 Why say something in one sentence when eight will do。 The story is interesting but not enough to hold my attention for long enough periods。 If you like Austin then this is for you, but don't go out of your way to read it。 Wow this was long winded。 Why say something in one sentence when eight will do。 The story is interesting but not enough to hold my attention for long enough periods。 If you like Austin then this is for you, but don't go out of your way to read it。 。。。more

I love me a good Jane Austen。 I don't remember when I read this, years ago I am sure。。。 maybe more than a decade。 I am amazed at how many books I trip over that I have read before I even thought of there being a place like Goodreads to log and review them。 I only list this now because of @kaysore's great review。 I love me a good Jane Austen。 I don't remember when I read this, years ago I am sure。。。 maybe more than a decade。 I am amazed at how many books I trip over that I have read before I even thought of there being a place like Goodreads to log and review them。 I only list this now because of @kaysore's great review。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Anne just had no personality for 90% of the book and Wentworth was absent for most of it as well。 Everything interesting happened in the last ~30 pages and their relationship just wasn’t compelling enough to make up for the rest of the book。

Do I ever have to write a review to tell how Amazing , how good how heartwarming this Book is ? Jane Austen is clearly one of my favorite authors maybe the best one ever ! The storyline , the characters , the developpemet all of this is just so perfect。 Idk what to say to de Do I ever have to write a review to tell how Amazing , how good how heartwarming this Book is ? Persuasion is yet another romance novel by esteemed author。A classic slow burn romance。。That tension, unexpressed love Austen doesn't believe in public declaration of love or rather public display of affection。。Her characters (rather main characters) are always in control of their emotions。They might be feeling lot of things But they don't show。。You will find similarities in the characters with the characters of other books yet the writing style of this one of quiet different。If you have read Pr Persuasion is yet another romance novel by esteemed author。A classic slow burn romance。。That tension, unexpressed love Austen doesn't believe in public declaration of love or rather public display of affection。。Her characters (rather main characters) are always in control of their emotions。They might be feeling lot of things But they don't show。。You will find similarities in the characters with the characters of other books yet the writing style of this one of quiet different。If you have read Pride and Prejudice and Liked it and you think you gonna like this one toothen think again。Coz it's a lot different。。Also the story In P&P you see young girls seeking love but here It's young women (age group of late 20s) looking for appropriate marriage。 The Indian unmarried women from late 20s feel the same thing which these women from early 1800s felt 。Yeah things have not changed for us much and which will make this book quite relatable。。Basically story is about A couple who had to break their engagement due to family pressure (or rather Family's persuasion)Now after 8 years they mees againWhat will happen is to be seen。。As usual there are side characters who get married, some of which are not even compatible with each other 。。 Austen who loves Irony shows us many interesting things for which you have to read this one。This novel deals with many themes most specifically 1。 Social Status/ class distinction2。 Women problems / feminism in subtle way。Could have included Persuasion above but I think it is also found in her other books too but yea it's prominent here And ofcourse "Marriage" is the important theme in this book too。。。This novel is for :1。 Dedicated Austen Fan 2。 Lovers of classic Romance (which are mostly slow burn)3。 Those who love to explore different writing styles。。Beginners to Jane Austen kindly don't start with this one。Probably you will be disappointed。。。All others do read this I really liked it 。。。more

this is my third jane austen and what a DELIGHT it was!!! told in two volumes, with volume ii being the juiciest, persuasion follows anne elliot as she navigates her tiresome family and relations as well as a heartbreak she's never recovered from following her ex's reemergence in her life。 captain wentworth once asked anne to marry him years ago but she turned him down after being heavily persuaded to not marry him from the maternal figure in her life, lady russell。 what follows is 200 pages of this is my third jane austen and what a DELIGHT it was!!! told in two volumes, with volume ii being the juiciest, persuasion follows anne elliot as she navigates her tiresome family and relations as well as a heartbreak she's never recovered from following her ex's reemergence in her life。 captain wentworth once asked anne to marry him years ago but she turned him down after being heavily persuaded to not marry him from the maternal figure in her life, lady russell。 what follows is 200 pages of pining and longing from both parties and it's OVERWHELMING。 i give this novel five stars because anne is a girlie and i lived for this regency exes to lovers。 *minor spoilers*captain wentworth writes anne a letter and i literally had to put my book down:"you pierce my soul。 i am half agony, half hope。。。a word, a look will be enough to decide whether i enter your father's house this evening, or never。"TO WHICH JANE AUSTEN WRITES:"such a letter was not to be soon recovered from。" like deadass i'll be recovering until my end days。 。。。more
