Acclaimed sports psychologist Bob Rotella has advised everyone from professional golfers to NBA superstars to business executives on how to flourish under pressure and overcome challenges。 “Rotella’s philosophy is astonishingly simple…his success rate…is phenomenal” (The New York Times)。 Now, for the first time, he’s distilled his decades of in-depth research and practical experience into a potential-unlocking guide for everyone, from businesspeople to athletes to parents。

Most psychology is focused on trying to make abnormal people normal。 Bob Rotella’s work is to make normal people exceptional。 “Intriguing and persuasive” (Publishers Weekly), How Champions Think takes readers inside the minds of winners in many fields。 It explores how to keep the mind from holding you back, whatever your physical gifts or other talents。 It’s about how to make a commitment, how to persevere, how to deal with failure。 It’s about how to train your mind to create a self-image that promotes confidence and accomplishment。

Any successful life starts with how you see yourself。 And with these pearls of wisdom from the nation’s preeminent sports psychologist, you can learn to achieve the success of your dreams。 “Straightforward and simple。。。Do the math。 Read Rotella” (The Wall Street Journal)。

A quick read but tons of quote-worthy nuggets that I’ll review often and apply daily。 Practical advice coming from an author with lots of credibility。 His advice seems transferable to any profession。

Good concepts and great examples! I would like to have more examples from different sports and/or businesses。 Most of them are about golf。

There are certainly things about this book that don’t sit well with me - Rotella seems unwilling to acknowledge the extent to which factors such as systemic oppression and adverse experiences affect a person’s ability to reach difficult goals, and he has an unwavering sense of patriotism and belief in the American dream, which is frankly uncomfortable to listen to - but I do think this is a really great guide to the kind of mindset one needs to cultivate when embarking on achieving a particularl There are certainly things about this book that don’t sit well with me - Rotella seems unwilling to acknowledge the extent to which factors such as systemic oppression and adverse experiences affect a person’s ability to reach difficult goals, and he has an unwavering sense of patriotism and belief in the American dream, which is frankly uncomfortable to listen to - but I do think this is a really great guide to the kind of mindset one needs to cultivate when embarking on achieving a particularly difficult goal。 。。。more

Amazing book。 Clears up thought process of anxious athletes and gives clear ways to improve。 Get fascinated by what you want to be better at and dominate it through repetition, visualization, mindful practice etc。。。 You cannot wait until the achievement to believe that you can do it, confidence comes through practice and preparation。 Knowing that you've done what it takes to make it happen will come in when you've done everything you can。 Amazing book。 Clears up thought process of anxious athletes and gives clear ways to improve。 Get fascinated by what you want to be better at and dominate it through repetition, visualization, mindful practice etc。。。 You cannot wait until the achievement to believe that you can do it, confidence comes through practice and preparation。 Knowing that you've done what it takes to make it happen will come in when you've done everything you can。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 A very well written book with tons of examples to clarify what Dr。 Rotella intends to express。 This book will help you determine what’s important to achieve glory。 I liked chapter 18 the most, because you get to learn to create your own reality by not limiting yourself。 We as humans tend to do this and fail to get out of this short minded mentality。

First rate! A MUST READ FOR ANYONE WITH BIG GOALS, BIG DREAMS!!

Content seems to be ok, but the author voice is so monotonous and blunt that I had to repeat the chapters many time to even understand what he meant。

Sophia

very good book

Outstanding。 Practical。 Effective。 Easy to understand。 Rotella uses mainly golf (individual) and basketball (team) examples to explain how one can excel; however, his insights apply to all aspects of life as he demonstrates with many other examples from his work。 One key observation is that the focus and dedication required to be a champion causes some individuals to ignore their families unless they find a balance between these two poles。

Interesting look at the mindset of exceptional performers, mostly golfers。 Goes beyond the usual bromides to give specific examples that are helpful。 Found most insightful how athletes distract themselves during times of tension so that their unconscious can take over, allowing them to get out of their own way and perform at their peak - e。g。 visualizing a scene in Europe while walking toward the ball to hit a big shot, not thinking the whole way about options, technique, etc。 Even though most e Interesting look at the mindset of exceptional performers, mostly golfers。 Goes beyond the usual bromides to give specific examples that are helpful。 Found most insightful how athletes distract themselves during times of tension so that their unconscious can take over, allowing them to get out of their own way and perform at their peak - e。g。 visualizing a scene in Europe while walking toward the ball to hit a big shot, not thinking the whole way about options, technique, etc。 Even though most examples are from golf, the lessons about mindset apply to any sport, business, school and other areas requiring a high level of performance。 。。。more

Recommended by a professor。 A good read that made you think a lot about your mentality and how to think to achieve greatness。 Were a lot of sports/golf references that went over my head or were simply just boring to read because I did not understand。 Overall, decent read。

I forgot the book I intended to read at home, so I read this instead。 I'm glad I did。 The author had some great morsels of wisdom which right away improved my golf game。 I took off one star because the author repeated himself a little too much for my liking (probably a sports psychology tactic)。 I forgot the book I intended to read at home, so I read this instead。 I'm glad I did。 The author had some great morsels of wisdom which right away improved my golf game。 I took off one star because the author repeated himself a little too much for my liking (probably a sports psychology tactic)。 。。。more

This book is a motivating read for anyone who wants to make bigger change in life。 You'll feel like - hey I can do this。 It holds valuable lessons and themes for those performing at high levels。 Took off 3 stars for 3 reasons:1。 There is a lot of golf terminology and would have liked to see wider applications。2。 This book leans highly toward the individual-deterministic view without often acknowledging how privilege or circumstances play a roll in life as well。3。 The book almost always uses only This book is a motivating read for anyone who wants to make bigger change in life。 You'll feel like - hey I can do this。 It holds valuable lessons and themes for those performing at high levels。 Took off 3 stars for 3 reasons:1。 There is a lot of golf terminology and would have liked to see wider applications。2。 This book leans highly toward the individual-deterministic view without often acknowledging how privilege or circumstances play a roll in life as well。3。 The book almost always uses only "he" as a pronoun for everything (i。e。 "He is exceptional when he does xyz。。。", and it's the 21st century! A small step into the mindset of champions。 It is also an account of how important the psychological component of sport cannot be ignored and the enormous roll it plays in a sportsman's career。 Very interesting read and the examples provided by the author are compelling。 A small step into the mindset of champions。 It is also an account of how important the psychological component of sport cannot be ignored and the enormous roll it plays in a sportsman's career。 Very interesting read and the examples provided by the author are compelling。 。。。more

This book was full of good psychological advice on how to have the right mentality and mindset to succeed in whatever it is you do。 He brought up a lot of cool stories of many sporting legends and I definitely learned a lot, but most of the examples were golfers。 That’s not a bad thing but a sports book without a single reference to soccer doesn’t deserve 5 stars。

A book full of examples on how Champions - mainly in Sports (Golf, Basketball and Baseball) - think。 What I like most is how Bob Rotella differentiates between the two processes for Training and Performance。 He also provides some good examples about Top Business Managers and Leaders and explains how they can learn from Sports Champions。 Mindset is one of the key aspects but also Coaching teams and the ability to use successful moments after good performance applying the right critique to a team A book full of examples on how Champions - mainly in Sports (Golf, Basketball and Baseball) - think。 What I like most is how Bob Rotella differentiates between the two processes for Training and Performance。 He also provides some good examples about Top Business Managers and Leaders and explains how they can learn from Sports Champions。 Mindset is one of the key aspects but also Coaching teams and the ability to use successful moments after good performance applying the right critique to a team to make them even better and coach them like that to win championships impressed me。 I really recommend this book to anyone who aspires to either become a champion or to coach teams to the highest possible performance。 。。。more

I absolutely loved this book。 It is one that can make you feel uncomfortable。 I say this because the principles are so clearly outlined that you know whether you are thinking like a champion or not。 The author provided many different tools to help develop the mindset he encourages。 For example, he shares the tool of visualization。 It is not just imagining something, but really working to experience it in every way。I plan to make this one of my "yearly read" books。 The principles are timeless and I absolutely loved this book。 It is one that can make you feel uncomfortable。 I say this because the principles are so clearly outlined that you know whether you are thinking like a champion or not。 The author provided many different tools to help develop the mindset he encourages。 For example, he shares the tool of visualization。 It is not just imagining something, but really working to experience it in every way。I plan to make this one of my "yearly read" books。 The principles are timeless and have already brought me that much value。 If you decide to read this book you will not be disappointed。 Worth a read at least a couple times。 。。。more
