The writing was good but I… I don’t feel like the beginning premise lined up with what I got in the end?

Well, someone’s sick of the wealthy thinking they deserve everything and that the poor are disposable。 Excellent story full of deep meaning on topics such as inherited wealth and power, the struggles of the disadvantaged, and how we blame ourselves for the crimes of others。 Loved it!

Hide isn’t going to be for everyone。 The author’s use of multiple, erratic, fast changing POVs is a stylistic choice and I think I lot of this books popularity will come down to preference。 But damn, if it isn’t my favourite read of 2022 so far。 I usually want to froth at the mouth and spoil everything, but I’ll leave it at this。 Sapphic love? Theseus and the Minotaur? Creepy abandoned amusement park? Yes please。

Marie

Well known mythology retelling paired with a rundown amusement park, and more accurately placed in the thriller genre (not horror)。

4。5/5starsThis book, an artistic scream of rage about school shooting and gun violence against children, was published on May 24, 2022。 I can't even explain the shivers I got when I read her authors note, knowing what happened on that day。This book was wonderful - the length was perfect, the message was clear, and the story itself was captivating。 Highly recommend, especially if you're an American living in this fucked up mess we call our society。 4。5/5starsThis book, an artistic scream of rage about school shooting and gun violence against children, was published on May 24, 2022。 I can't even explain the shivers I got when I read her authors note, knowing what happened on that day。This book was wonderful - the length was perfect, the message was clear, and the story itself was captivating。 Highly recommend, especially if you're an American living in this fucked up mess we call our society。 。。。more

I had fun with this one。 I do wish it had went a little harder on the horror aspect though。

I had just read the upcoming Middle-Grade contemporary Gothic novel WRETCHED WATERPARK by Kiersten White a few days prior to reading her adult-audience novel HIDE (May 24 2022 Release)。 I adored both! This novel reverberates, subtly and without bludgeoning the reader, with issues of Society and Culture that have persisted for centuries and are still overwhelming, such as racism, class conflict, elitism and entitlement。 There are also subtle emanations of Lovecraftian resonances。 。。。more

DNF at 50%。 I'm really disappointed since I was waiting for this book to release for a few months。 Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it。 Most of the characters were boring and it was slow paced。 DNF at 50%。 I'm really disappointed since I was waiting for this book to release for a few months。 Unfortunately, I couldn't get into it。 Most of the characters were boring and it was slow paced。 。。。more

Loved this。 It wasn’t necessarily a totally unique story idea, but there was so much to love about it, and the points it made about how we treat people as means to an end。

Oh look-A FIVE STAR HORROR BOOK! 14 competitors in the hide and seek tournament, 7 days to not be found, AND AN ABANDONED AMUSEMENT PARK (can a setting get better than this? I think not)。 This was like if Hunger Games and Maze Runner had a demented (but still fun) baby。 I want to say more, but I can’t without fear of spoilers so basically just go read it ok?

4。5。 chef's kiss。 i'm not a person who needs plot, which this book didn't have much of until the end。 i'm more for character development and relationships which this DID have a lot of。 not to mention amusement park settings are ALWAYS a yes for me。 plus there was a LOT of suspense。 even for a book。 i couldn't read fast enough。 i'm so excited about this book and i'm so glad i read it。 4。5。 chef's kiss。 i'm not a person who needs plot, which this book didn't have much of until the end。 i'm more for character development and relationships which this DID have a lot of。 not to mention amusement park settings are ALWAYS a yes for me。 plus there was a LOT of suspense。 even for a book。 i couldn't read fast enough。 i'm so excited about this book and i'm so glad i read it。 。。。more

of course the concept pulled me in。 I love a good death game plot! I also LOVE the butch lesbian representation (maybe the first book character that I’ve ever had a crush on)。 but the character development was not good imo, even for the main characters。 all of them, including the protagonist, came off as one-dimensional with only a couple of basic traits and beliefs (and the dialogue was sometimes a little too unrealistic for me)。 we know remarkably little about the central characters’ lives pri of course the concept pulled me in。 I love a good death game plot! Out of all the recent YA authors who’ve written adult novels, this is my favorite。 It was definitely scarier/creepier than I thought it would be so do NOT read it at night like I did。 I’m really looking forward to more adults books from Kiersten (but hopefully future ones will be less scary)。 Lots of interesting, sharp, and horribly relevant social commentary mixed in as well。

I had a hard time getting in to this one - there are so many points of view and it switches between them all randomly so it felt confusing at times。 Having to go between so many different characters made it hard to feel like we were really getting to understand the characters, especially the main character。 I still love Kiersten White and will continue to read whatever she releases but this was not my favorite of hers for sure。

This book deserves 5 stars for concept alone。 You had me at Final Destination meets Joyland meets House on Haunted Hill vibes。 For this reason, I’ve given it 3 stars。 But, I was disappointed by many things, and for those things I can’t grant a full five, even though I wanted to。 My greatest disappointment: where was the horror?

I found the story to be original and really entertaining。 Story is based around Mack who is homeless, aimless, and hopeless。 She is invited to play a reality style hide and seek game in a closed amusement park for 50k。 Her past uniquely makes her a fit for this game。 13 other contestants 7 days。 Lots of twists and turns I loved it!

A-MAZE-ING。 Seriously。 This is a modern day minotaur retelling and I am absolutely living for it。 It's so good! I couldn't put it down。 4。5 stars easy。 May be 5 stars the longer I think on it。 A-MAZE-ING。 Seriously。 This is a modern day minotaur retelling and I am absolutely living for it。 It's so good! Fun! The story held my interest & I found the characters to be pretty fleshed out。 Bonus points for a main character with my name spelled the same way and a backstory I relate to。 Not a huge fan of the ending (but not sure how I actually wanted it to end)。 I was expecting it to be graphic, which it wasn’t, but still very much worth a read!

14 contestants partake in a hide-and-seek competition in an abandoned amusement park。 Things get end up getting deadly。 I got drawn into the interesting premise and the great cover art almost immediately! It was a quick-paced, easy read that had very unpredictable aspects。 It had the vibes of The Hunger Games and Squid Games。Overall, I rated this a 3/5 stars!

I received this ARC from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review。I wanted to like this, but honestly I’m not even sure what I read。 There was A LOT going on, and the abrupt POV shifts sometimes made things confusing。 I did struggle a bit during the first half of the book because of this。 When the characters start figuring out what is really going on things picked up。 The ending left me hanging… like wtf happened?? Overall it was good, but could have been better。

I just finished this absolutely masterfully written book by the incomparable Kiersten White。 Fourteen people go in, how many will make it out? Fourteen people that seemingly have no one, that are willing to do something that seems crazy just for a chance at a fresh start, and that fresh start means many different things to these people。Through twists and turns that rival a roller coaster we find out about our Fourteen, come to care about them, and watch what happens with (in my experience at least) wide eyed terror。 I devoured this book (no pun intended) I read the first page and knew it would be a crazy ride, ten pages in and I was hooked。Mack is exactly the kind of character I needed in my life right now, she survives, she lives with guilt, she feels hopeless at times, but she tries, and through that we see a complex character that becomes open to the idea of letting go of the past and becoming the person she never thought she could be。Ava (Mack's Ava) is a bad ass take no prisoners (well yeah, there was that one prisoner) kind of character that you place all your bets on and aren't disappointed。 LeGrand broke my heart and the put it back together again。 He goes to show that having a trauma in your life doesn't look the same for everyone but that doesn't mean you wouldn't do anything, sacrifice everything for the chance to fix either a situation or yourself。 I'm afraid if I go any further there will be serious spoilers and I want everyone that reads this book (seriously everyone should read this) to have the same experience I did。 I'll leave it with I love, seriously love this book。 。。。more

something about the writing style makes me think the author has written/read a lot of fan fiction, its definitely not a bad thing and i couldn’t explain it if you asked but i just get the vibeanyway this was fun! i love ensemble cast stories and i loved the characters here! however, i didnt care so much about the history or reasons behind this death game to be honest (the way we find out is pretty clunky, too) and as far as intergenerational trauma metaphors go it was REALLY weak。 still, loved t something about the writing style makes me think the author has written/read a lot of fan fiction, its definitely not a bad thing and i couldn’t explain it if you asked but i just get the vibeanyway this was fun! i love ensemble cast stories and i loved the characters here! however, i didnt care so much about the history or reasons behind this death game to be honest (the way we find out is pretty clunky, too) and as far as intergenerational trauma metaphors go it was REALLY weak。 still, loved the characters so i liked it a lot! 。。。more

14 strangers are all enticed together in the hope of winning $50,000, they each have their own history and reasons for wanting the prize money, to claim the prize all they need to do is survive a game of hide and seek, in an old abandoned amusement park for 7 days… what they don’t know is what is hunting them and why。

I got this book for my dad for father's day, because I thought it sounded really eery and cool。 And then yesterday I decided to read it last minute so I actually know if my gift is actually a good one lol。 And let me tell you, I absolutely loved it!! First of all, it really is super eery。 The vibe is really scary and odd and it's definitely a horror book。 If you like weird/ creepy stuff, then this is perfect for you。 I really loved the concept and the general plot of it。 Kiersten White set up th I got this book for my dad for father's day, because I thought it sounded really eery and cool。 And then yesterday I decided to read it last minute so I actually know if my gift is actually a good one lol。 And let me tell you, I absolutely loved it!! They were so indeering。 Everyone was so unique and had their own voice。 And Mack, Ava, Brandon and LeGrand were just the absolut sweetest。 Even Beautiful Ava。 She was also really sweet, I would have loved it if she would have been part of the gang, too。 Brandon was the absolut sweetest。 He really is the kindest gas station clerk out there。 It was so sweet how he asked them to come live with him once everything was over。 He wanted to be a good friend so badly。 My heart broke for him the whole time。 The way he went was very true to his character。 Of course he would sacrifice himself for the others。 Sadly in vain tho。 Ava was the coolest badass out there! And her and Mack's relationship was so sweet as well。 LeGrand was also such a good friend。 God I just really loved their friend group。 They were so lovely and every one of them deserved a happy ending。And can I just say I loved the ending?! I really thought Mack and LeGrand would sacrifice themselves。 Then I thought they were sacrificing the monster。 Then they just umleashed the beast onto the city and the people who chained it to this amusement park and God that was a cool ending!I wanna read more of Kiersten White's books, I really loved this one!! So scary and eerey and full of great and loveable characters!! 。。。more
