Summary

Anne Frank's extraordinary diary, written in the Amsterdam attic where she and her family hid from the Nazis for two years, has become a world classic and a timeless testament to the human spirit。 Now, in a new edition enriched by many passages originally withheld by her father, we meet an Anne more real, more human, and more vital than ever。 Here she is first and foremost a teenage girl—stubbornly honest, touchingly vulnerable, in love with life。 She imparts her deeply secret world of soul-searching and hungering for affection, rebellious clashes with her mother, romance and newly discovered sexuality, and wry, candid observations of her companions。 Facing hunger, fear of discovery and death, and the petty frustrations of such confined quarters, Anne writes with adult wisdom and views beyond her years。 Her story is that of every teenager, lived out in conditions few teenagers have ever known。

You know, I cant evan "grade" this book。 How can you grade someones experiences, someones value, someones right to exist?Just read it。 Then reflect。 Then read it again。"I need to have something besides a husband and children to devote myself to! Like so many others, I’d read this amazing diary when I was 12 or 13。 Since I was going to Amsterdam and had a ticket to the Anne Frank House/Museum, I decided to re-read it。 It was as moving now as it was then。 What a loss of a great writer!

A solid book。 Although I was confused at times because I thought the book would be about Anne's experience at the concentration camp itself。 It was in fact about her time in hiding and how she went into hiding。 Read this book during my covid isolation at Munro, so I was able to relate a little bit (of course to a far less extreme)。 So first Anne was an ordinary school student。 She talks about her friends and then a pivotal aspect of the book begins to emerge。 What different guys she likes and he A solid book。 Although I was confused at times because I thought the book would be about Anne's experience at the concentration camp itself。 It was in fact about her time in hiding and how she went into hiding。 Read this book during my covid isolation at Munro, so I was able to relate a little bit (of course to a far less extreme)。 So first Anne was an ordinary school student。 She talks about her friends and then a pivotal aspect of the book begins to emerge。 What different guys she likes and her different interactions。 Not related, but a part of the book that was cool was how she talked about what would happen if the whole world got her journal (called it kitty) and read it。 She was very blunt with her feelings。 Something that even with a journal I don’t really do。 Or at least I would be hesitant to do so。 Specifically, how she felt about her mom and the contrast with her dad。 I can relate somewhat because I sometimes talked to one of my parent’s about another parent and why they were like the way they were。 I get along with both my parents however; and it seems that Anne never really got along with her mom。 Anne then finds a place that she can hide with the rest of her family: her dad's workplace。 A very isolated place in the workplace。 They couldn’t use water during the workday because they didn’t want people to know who worked there and what they were doing。 Another similar part that I can relate to because there was no water in station chatham for 8 days。 Although I think Anne had it a little worse because she didn’t have water for 3 years。 8 days is pretty close to 3 years, though, right? It was also cool that I could somewhat relate to her through her diary and what I used to do with the emails, and now the journal。 Sad I didn’t bring the journal for the summer。 That’s alright。 I can maintain emails and I also have this。 Maybe I can read 3 more books before I leave。 Anne then gets help from different people。 I forgot their names, but I talked about this with Luke。 He said how it was interesting that people were willing to risk their lives for Anne and the other family who they were hiding with。 I nearly forgot about this part。 Anne went into hiding with another family that she did not like。 She did, although like the guy at the end。 From her daily eating, to her interactions with other people it was a solid book。 I also thought the interactions were interesting because of how specific and quote heavy they were。 I never do quotes when writing about a previous conversation that I had。 Good book。 Moving on。 。。。more

This diary brought a whole new personal aspect to the millions of innocent lives taken during this time period。 It is a dairy of a fourteen-year-old girl recording about her time being hidden in a secret room, so as you can assume, there’s not many “exciting things” going on necessarily。 But she did not intend this diary to serve as entertainment。 She did this for herself and “Kitty”。 I have learned so much from Anne in my time reading this book。 She was intelligent, creative, charming, optimist This diary brought a whole new personal aspect to the millions of innocent lives taken during this time period。 It is a dairy of a fourteen-year-old girl recording about her time being hidden in a secret room, so as you can assume, there’s not many “exciting things” going on necessarily。 But she did not intend this diary to serve as entertainment。 She did this for herself and “Kitty”。 I have learned so much from Anne in my time reading this book。 She was intelligent, creative, charming, optimistic, and had such a bright future ahead。 I wish this was a book built into my curriculum in school。 Everyone should read this book in their lifetime。 。。。more

truly incredible。 reading these words written by a real person, unfiltered thoughts and opinions and growth and fears is truly remarkable。 anne frank was such an intelligent girl with truly many talents and a wonderful view of the world and her life and so many others lives were so devastatingly cut short。 anne says,“In the eyes of the world, we’re doomed, but if, after all of this suffering, there are still Jews left, the Jewish people will be held up as an example。 Who knows, maybe our religio truly incredible。 reading these words written by a real person, unfiltered thoughts and opinions and growth and fears is truly remarkable。 anne frank was such an intelligent girl with truly many talents and a wonderful view of the world and her life and so many others lives were so devastatingly cut short。 anne says,“In the eyes of the world, we’re doomed, but if, after all of this suffering, there are still Jews left, the Jewish people will be held up as an example。 Who knows, maybe our religion will teach the world and all the people in it about goodness, and that’s the reason, the only reason, we have to suffer。” 。。。more

"An old head on young shoulders" is probably the best saying you can describe Anne with。 You can clearly see her becoming a mature teenager from a typical one。 At some points she makes us think that is it truly written by an adolescent? She was a day dreamer, she was a believer。 Her diary takes you thru all the incidents happened in that dark,。silent yet a house for unfortunates, The Secret Annex。 At least eveyone should read this once。 "An old head on young shoulders" is probably the best saying you can describe Anne with。 You can clearly see her becoming a mature teenager from a typical one。 At some points she makes us think that is it truly written by an adolescent? Even though we all know the ending, it still hit me pretty hard。 The way it just ended, and then went on to say they died… I cried at work。 I was so amazed by that last entry, though。 She discussed matters I only just started thinking about recently in life! That being said, anyone else think Anne Frank was an Enneagram Type 7? If I wasn’t already convinced throughout the entire diary, that last entry really did it in! It is my exact thoughts as a Type 7。

A very intriguing book giving an insight on how the personal lives of victims of the ww2 underwent undesired changes。

Incredibly mature language by a little girl whose bravura set the stage for one of the most iconic and tragic literary piece of 20th century。 This beautifully written diary sheds light onto a dark period in our history under the terror of Nazism while taking the reader on a vivid journey through the lenses of Anne Frank。 It is sad, heart-wrenching as much as it was masterfully written。 It is a must-read masterpiece。

I related philosophically to so much Anne was saying。 She made evocative comparisons between what was going on in her life and what was going on in the world at the time that allowed me insight into the ways we are human (both good and bad) in unimaginable situations。 Her ponderings about what it means to be a girl in 1940s Europe were very relatable to me looking back on my own teenage years。 Some of the same experiences and obstacles she says that women face then are still areas of focus today I related philosophically to so much Anne was saying。 She made evocative comparisons between what was going on in her life and what was going on in the world at the time that allowed me insight into the ways we are human (both good and bad) in unimaginable situations。 Her ponderings about what it means to be a girl in 1940s Europe were very relatable to me looking back on my own teenage years。 Some of the same experiences and obstacles she says that women face then are still areas of focus today。 I also learned a lot about the chronology of events in WW II in Europe and specifically the timeline of events in Amsterdam。 I would often pause at certain points to look up more information about what was going on at certain times that Anne could only guess at based on news she received through radio and by listening to bombs in the distance。 She also had a notebook of quotes that she has heard that have resonated with her over the years, which is something I also do。 It took me many years to read this novel because I assumed that a 13 year old’s diaries wouldn’t interest me; I assumed wrong。 。。。more

An interesting read。The book was about the day to day drama of 2 jewish families in hiding during the NAZI occupation in Holland。 A glimpse into the mind of the young girl。 You can see her mature as time goes by before their capture。

I read this because I will be in Amsterdam and will be touring her house/museum next week。 I had never read it and have always wanted to。 I felt like I was intruding on her life since it's really a diary and she has a lot of personal feelings, but it was fascinating。 Admittedly I skimmed through parts of it, as I was on a timeline to finish。 I didn't need to know all the details about the people she was living with, but learning about what and how they ate, interacted with each other on some lev I read this because I will be in Amsterdam and will be touring her house/museum next week。 I had never read it and have always wanted to。 I felt like I was intruding on her life since it's really a diary and she has a lot of personal feelings, but it was fascinating。 Admittedly I skimmed through parts of it, as I was on a timeline to finish。 I didn't need to know all the details about the people she was living with, but learning about what and how they ate, interacted with each other on some level, and avoided being caught brought such an insight into what it must have been like for them。 Learning about the plumbing issues, health problems, celebrating birthdays, rationing food and baths, and keeping up with the politics of the war were interesting and devastating at the same time。 It was so hearbreaking to know what they endured for so long, only to have everything taken away so close to the end。 It makes me wonder how many other similar stories no one really knows about。 。。。more
