Summary

The basic premise of Inspired is that the best tech companies create products in a manner very different from how most companies create products。 The goal of the book is to share the techniques of the best companies。 This book is aimed primarily at Product Managers working on technology-powered products。 That includes the hundreds of "tech companies" like Google, Facebook, Amazon, Twitter and the like, as well as the thousands of companies moving to leverage technology (financial companies, media companies, retailers, manufacturers, nearly every industry)。 Inspired covers companies from early stage start-ups to large, established companies。 The products might be consumer products or devices, business services for small businesses to enterprises, internal tools, and developer platforms。

Inspired is secondarily aimed at the designers, engineers, user researchers and data scientists that work closely with the product managers on product teams at these same companies。

very practical and clear。

This book is not inspiring at all。 It is informative and it's value depends on how experienced you are in an IT world and product development。You might find either a lot of value or nothing at all。 This book is not inspiring at all。 It is informative and it's value depends on how experienced you are in an IT world and product development。You might find either a lot of value or nothing at all。 。。。more

Sensible knowledge, poor structure and repetitive execution。

I struggled with this one。 Some great content, but Cagan really just sort of laundry lists all of his ideas instead of really taking a stand on a few。 It’s good for a comprehensive look at ideas in product management。 But practically speaking it reads like a compendium of advice that never really goes deep on any subject。Edit: Credit where credits due, this flat affect may be due to the degree to which Cagan has influenced Silicon Valley。 The theories in this book are the textbook for how produc I struggled with this one。 Some great content, but Cagan really just sort of laundry lists all of his ideas instead of really taking a stand on a few。 It’s good for a comprehensive look at ideas in product management。 But practically speaking it reads like a compendium of advice that never really goes deep on any subject。Edit: Credit where credits due, this flat affect may be due to the degree to which Cagan has influenced Silicon Valley。 The theories in this book are the textbook for how product orgs are run today。 So while I was reading thinking “uh yeah I already knew that”, this may have been groundbreaking 10+ years ago and I am taking for granted how much impact this book has had。 Like reading about the benefits of electricity in 2021。 。。。more

I should have read it 4 years ago when it just came out。 Nowadays a lot of teams are following these best practices that are described in the book, and you’ve(if you work in a startup world) highly likely know most of them anyway。 Still a great read though。

A book worth reading multiple times。

Must-read for whoever wants to pursuit a professional Product Manager career path。

Good book on the fundamentals of being a good product manager。

Egy újabb kötelező könyv, legalábbis azoknak, akik termékfejlesztésben utaznak。 Elképesztő mennyiségű jól strukturált módszer, technika és tapasztalat - már önmagában a tartalomjegyzék is hasznos。Egy hiányosság (ami azonban nem olyan súlyos, hogy lerontsa az öt csillagot): egyes koncepciók érthetőségét, a különböző területek közötti kapcsolatok átláthatóságát javíthatná néhány jól eltalált illusztráció, a könyvben sajnos egyetlen ilyen sincs。

Interesting perspective on product management and stakeholder involvement, though appears to promise solutions to development lifecycle problems which it doesn't really deliver。 Interesting perspective on product management and stakeholder involvement, though appears to promise solutions to development lifecycle problems which it doesn't really deliver。 。。。more

Perhaps if you are a product manager this is a good book。 This was assigned reading for me as someone from research who will work with product。 From that angle the book was no help。 Many terms and ideas were never defined。 Also, the author is arrogant, repetitive, sexist, and racist。 He also needs a good editor。 All that being said, it is an easy read (though not an easy retention)。 Lots of spaces, short chapters, big print。

。。。more

Dynamic, direct and super applicable。 It is easy to take the ideas from the paper, try them out in a daily basis and check the effectiveness of them。

Great book for anyone interested or just starting in product management。 Wish I read this when it was first recommended to me。 Basically summarizes 50+ resources I consumed in my first year in product。 I’ve recommended this to all of my mentees。

It's an interesting view on how IT companies should work from prospective of managing/structuring。It has lots of real life examples and personal growing stories of how certain company organisations succeeded or failed using specific techniques。I think it is meant to be for product managers but what I think it is quite useful for engineers in order to understand why these or those things work specific way in your company。 It's an interesting view on how IT companies should work from prospective of managing/structuring。It has lots of real life examples and personal growing stories of how certain company organisations succeeded or failed using specific techniques。I think it is meant to be for product managers but what I think it is quite useful for engineers in order to understand why these or those things work specific way in your company。 。。。more

A fantastic book to describe to a first time product leader how to shape the organisation。 As a founder, this helped me think about how to define the role, the tasks, how it intersects with design and engineering, the cross-functional team and the culture that is needed to make a software product company effective。

Jun Yi Yap

This book provide very practical tips and relatable case studies for reference in the world of products。 The author make a point to be succinct yet detailed in her explanation。

Al Lee

Great content, mediocre delivery

Luke

Some parts a little waffly but overall a great book that really sheds light on product teams and innovation with great products

Camila Gargantini

Amazing book for product managers AND product led companies to understand how product plays a role in the role organization。One side note: found way too many typos on this book。。。 😒

This is probably the best book I’ve read for Product culture/ Product Management so far。 I seriously recommended it。 I’ve read the ebook on kobo and I’m thinking buying the hard paper copy of this and also Melissa Perri - Escaping the Build Trap

Wilhelm Eklund

This is a must read book for any serious product manager。 How to make sure the delivery team is working on something worth building has so many dimension。 This book could be called "Product Discouvery 101"。 This is a must read book for any serious product manager。 How to make sure the delivery team is working on something worth building has so many dimension。 This book could be called "Product Discouvery 101"。 。。。more

Good soup to nuts view of developing products in a tech company。 A dry read all the way through, this should serve well as a reference book。

Naïma

This is hands down one of the best tech/business books I’ve ever read。 I often find that business books are strong for 50-100 pages as they describe their thesis and then the next 150 pages are filled out with case-studies that are soon out of date。 Inspired is not on of those books。 Required reading for anyone in a tech product team。 Couldn’t have come at a better time for me。

Greg Ruben

Not really what I expected from the title。 The book is more about how product orgs ideally function, and specifically what a product manager does。 It is very dry。 At times it was quite informative, and at other times remedial or repetitious。 Ultimately I did learn something by reading it。

Paulus

An insightful and crisp look into all things product。 Interesting and inspiring read for anyone interested about technology powered products, businesses that revolve around them or people who create them。 And, no doubt an essential read for anyone working within product teams。
