I have read and listened to these books multiple times over the years and have loved them every single time。 I just noticed that our local library has them as books on CD so I think I will be listening to them again very soon!

Christian allegory, classical fantasy novel, rip-off of Lewis's close friend Tolkien--the Narnia books can be described in numerous ways。 As a fan of literature ranging from challenging literature to simplistic, brainless genre fiction, I very much enjoyed reading this series。 What I love about it is what I love about a lot of so-called "children's literature。" In recent years, for comparison, I've read and enjoyed the Redwall novels and the Dark is Rising series。 The quality of the books is inc Christian allegory, classical fantasy novel, rip-off of Lewis's close friend Tolkien--the Narnia books can be described in numerous ways。 As a fan of literature ranging from challenging literature to simplistic, brainless genre fiction, I very much enjoyed reading this series。 What I love about it is what I love about a lot of so-called "children's literature。" In recent years, for comparison, I've read and enjoyed the Redwall novels and the Dark is Rising series。 The quality of the books is inconsistent。 It seems to both start and end on the weakest。 The first and final books were my least favorite of the series。The religious allegory didn't impress me at all。 Lewis seems to have understood religion as a "that's-just-how-it-is" series of sometimes logical, but often irrational rules, and his story frequently reverts to this in the form of what the books call "magic。" The point of view, though sometimes very positive, is often far too didactic and outright absurd, and the lion, often as not, acts as a reason in itself rather than providing a good moral example or showing why a good choice is a good choice or a bad choice is a bad choice: Aslan said it, and therefore it's the right thing。 In the last novel, Lewis fully embraces the irrational and moralistic, barely interested in presenting a believable story to carry the ideology。As a non-believer, or in other words, as someone who doesn't accept things just because they've always been that way or because some ancient book said so, I've rolled my eyes frequently at these cheap story-telling tricks。 Still, I loved the stories, as Lewis mostly did a good job of creating an intriguing fantasy and driving the story forward with exciting twists and turns。 I don't need to appreciate the religious allegory to enjoy these stories。 。。。more

Lewis is a classic that everyone should have read。 His autobiographical works and sermons are awesome, too。 But I love the chronicles for their narration。 They are so emotional and you naturally join in on the kids journeys。 these tales are not only for kids, but every age。I love them more with every read I give them!

I began re-reading the Narnia books last summer and finished today。 It took me longer than it should’ve because I took a break between Voyage & The Silver Chair, but I can’t stress enough how beautiful these books are。 I loved reliving my childhood through reading them again and remembering all the parts I had forgotten。 Lewis fills every page up with sweet biblical metaphors, fun stories, and lovely humor。 I don’t really have much else to say so I’m gonna give a ranking of all the books:1。 The I began re-reading the Narnia books last summer and finished today。 It took me longer than it should’ve because I took a break between Voyage & The Silver Chair, but I can’t stress enough how beautiful these books are。 I loved reliving my childhood through reading them again and remembering all the parts I had forgotten。 Lewis fills every page up with sweet biblical metaphors, fun stories, and lovely humor。 I don’t really have much else to say so I’m gonna give a ranking of all the books:1。 The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (you just can’t beat it)2。 The Silver Chair (best plot & best character (i。e。 Puddleglum))3。 Prince Caspian (love the character development of the OG’s & a great plotline)4。 Voyage of the Dawn Treader (love it but it honestly would be lower if it weren’t for Reepicheep & also Eustace’s dragon scene is the best scene in all the books)5。 The Horse and His Boy (lovely side tale, Shasta is a great character with probably the best personal story arc of any of the characters)6。 The Last Battle (great book & moving metaphors but I thought it could’ve benefited from further development of Tirian & overall storyline development (ik it’s a children’s book but it just went too quick over important parts))7。 The Magician’s Nephew (also a great book that I enjoyed reading & functioned well as an origin story but it still feels like a fill in for other stories rather than a story in & of itself) 。。。more

I'll stick to the movies。It was fun being able to read the stories that aren't made into films, but there was a lot war and christianity throughout these stories。 Even though it's very understandable given the time this book had been published, I personally think these aspects are what brings the books down to three stars for me, as there was a lot of it (maybe just a little too much)。 I did reaaaally love the worldbuilding, as in I'd love to go to Narnia and be abducted by a water dude or get s I'll stick to the movies。It was fun being able to read the stories that aren't made into films, but there was a lot war and christianity throughout these stories。 Even though it's very understandable given the time this book had been published, I personally think these aspects are what brings the books down to three stars for me, as there was a lot of it (maybe just a little too much)。 I did reaaaally love the worldbuilding, as in I'd love to go to Narnia and be abducted by a water dude or get secrets spilled by the leaves of trees。But the endingggg。 I'll keep this spoiler free but one character (as a matter of fact one of my favorite characters) really deserved better 。。。more
