Great for its time but there are much better, less a**hole options available for reading nowadays。

Sprinkled generously with examples and anecdotes from real life, this book helped me assess and analyze my approach towards people。 Halfway through the book, it did feel like it was influencing the reader to be diplomatic, but by the end I was genuinely satisfied and inspired to implement the lessons Dale Carnegie was kind enough to pen down for us。

The thesis goes with intuition, but with substantial lack of evidence

I liked one of the reviews I saw for this book: These techniques work 60% of the time, every time。 😆 There is some great advice in this book, but a lot of it situational。 Overall a good, easy read。

Everyone needs to read this book

This book offers advice that is easily understood but not as easily practiced or internalized。 It’s a short read, and it’s worth taking a look at what the professional self-help genre looked like almost 100 years ago。 Those who really struggle to get along with people may find some of the advice in here genuinely new。 Others will still find the reminder useful, and it is helpful to have these principles explicitly described。 I think a good follow up to this book would be some advice on how to ac This book offers advice that is easily understood but not as easily practiced or internalized。 It’s a short read, and it’s worth taking a look at what the professional self-help genre looked like almost 100 years ago。 Those who really struggle to get along with people may find some of the advice in here genuinely new。 Others will still find the reminder useful, and it is helpful to have these principles explicitly described。 I think a good follow up to this book would be some advice on how to actually practice these techniques, since the material cannot be easily applied just from reading it。 。。。more

Good book with great principles。 There are definitely some old fashioned notions, but the principles are sound。

I can see that there are some uses for this book and that it at times does use human behavioural science and psychology that is still taught and used today。 Unfortunately there are some very outdated notions but that is to be expected with a book written in the 1930s。 The idea of simply being agreeable to everyone you meet and disregard your own wellbeing at that expense is a very easy way to end up being manipulated by other people。

I'm torn。 This book has nice concepts on how to be seen as a decent human being by others。 The first parts seem pretty straightforward。 I wasn't quite sure what to make of it but thought that maybe back in the 30s, these concepts weren't common sense as much as they're now。 The later bits are good suggestions on how to be a leader。 That doesn't always come as common sense。However, I had trouble with the format of the book。 It was well structured, which I loved, but then after each concept was st I'm torn。 This book has nice concepts on how to be seen as a decent human being by others。 The first parts seem pretty straightforward。 I wasn't quite sure what to make of it but thought that maybe back in the 30s, these concepts weren't common sense as much as they're now。 The later bits are good suggestions on how to be a leader。 That doesn't always come as common sense。However, I had trouble with the format of the book。 It was well structured, which I loved, but then after each concept was stated, there were examples, over and over, add nauseum。 Not the kind of examples that make you think about how to apply the concept, but instead of sounded like a list of how the concept was accomplished by the author via how the students of his classes applied the knowledge。 It was a bit on the narcissistic side perhaps, but it is entirely possible that back in the 30s, talking like that was more accepted。 Overall I'm wavering between 2 and 3 stars but decided to be kind。 。。。more
