Summary

Growing up the daughter of notorious treasure hunter and absentee father Duke Wilder left Lily without much patience for the profession…or much money in the bank。 But Lily is nothing if not resourceful, and now uses Duke’s coveted hand-drawn maps to guide tourists on fake treasure hunts through the red rock canyons of Utah。 It pays the bills but doesn’t leave enough to fulfill her dream of buying back the beloved ranch her father sold years ago, and definitely not enough to deal with the sight of the man she once loved walking back into her life with a motley crew of friends ready to hit the trails。 Frankly, Lily would like to take him out into the wilderness—and leave him there。

Leo Grady knew mirages were a thing in the desert, but they’d barely left civilization when the silhouette of his greatest regret comes into focus in the flickering light of the campfire。 Ready to leave the past behind him, Leo wants nothing more than to reconnect with his first and only love。 Unfortunately, Lily Wilder is all business, drawing a clear line in the sand: it’s never going to happen。

But when the trip goes horribly and hilariously wrong, the group wonders if maybe the legend of the hidden treasure wasn’t a gimmick after all。 There’s a chance to right the wrongs—of Duke’s past and their own—but only if Leo and Lily can confront their history and work together。 Alone under the stars in the isolated and dangerous mazes of the Canyonlands, Leo and Lily must decide whether they’ll risk their lives and hearts on the adventure of a lifetime。

It read like an adventure movie。 Indiana Jones vibes for real。 Tough, rugged no nonsense female characters running the show。 Villains who thought they knew better。 A hero that had no problem hanging on the back burner in full support of his long lost love。 Beautiful scenery。 I love Utah。 I could really visualize the setting。 It made me want to go back for a visit。 I really do recommend this read。 I haven’t read too much Christina Lauren, but from what I can gather, you would most likely be shocked by how different it is from there typical stories。 Thanks NetGalley and Gallery Books for access to this ARC。 。。。more

This book is different from the usual romance themes from the Christina Lauren duo。 Something Wilder is more adventure/treasure hunt than romance but there is a great second chance love affair to enjoy。 Lily is the daughter of a famous treasure hunter who runs adventure trips for business people。 She finds herself leading a trip involving the former love of her life Leo。 After they get over the shock of seeing one another again after so many years, they set out to solve a grand treasure hunt。 Th This book is different from the usual romance themes from the Christina Lauren duo。 Something Wilder is more adventure/treasure hunt than romance but there is a great second chance love affair to enjoy。 Lily is the daughter of a famous treasure hunter who runs adventure trips for business people。 She finds herself leading a trip involving the former love of her life Leo。 After they get over the shock of seeing one another again after so many years, they set out to solve a grand treasure hunt。 The relationship between Lily and Leo is sweet and has a mature feel to it。 The story is also packed with interesting side characters that really add to the fun。 I really liked this one and while it was a change of pace for the writers, it still captured their signature great romance feel。 Thanks to Christina Lauren, Gallery Books, and NetGalley for a chance to read this ARC。 。。。more

I went into this book totally blind and I’m really glad I did。 Lily Wilder has lost pretty much everything - her first and only love, her beloved ranch, and her dad, famous treasure hunter, Duke Wilder。 She spends her days barely making ends meet by running treasure hunting wilderness tours where city slickers can live out their cowboy dreams for a week。 Imagine her astonishment when this week’s group happens to include that first love she hasn’t seen in ten years since he left her, Leo。 Leo’s j I went into this book totally blind and I’m really glad I did。 Lily Wilder has lost pretty much everything - her first and only love, her beloved ranch, and her dad, famous treasure hunter, Duke Wilder。 She spends her days barely making ends meet by running treasure hunting wilderness tours where city slickers can live out their cowboy dreams for a week。 Imagine her astonishment when this week’s group happens to include that first love she hasn’t seen in ten years since he left her, Leo。 Leo’s just as astonished - and happy - to see her。 But, when one of the members takes the trip a little too seriously and there’s a prospect of real treasure to be found, everything gets turned on it’s head and Lily and Leo rediscover their love of adventure and each other。 This book is half very, very sweet second chance romance and half suspense and it had me hooked the entire time。 Leo was so sweet and his love of Lily was incredible。 The suspense portion kept me so intrigued and I loved how Lily and Leo regained their love and trust through it。 It’s definitely half romance and half suspense so if you’re a romance 100% person, it might not be the book for you but I really loved it。 。。。more

What a bizzare reading experience。 I’m not sure who’s the intended audience for this book, because the romance was lackluster and the adventure too far-fetched (not to mention all characters felt like poorly developed caricatures)

Something Wilder is a light second chance romance perfect to get lost into。 It’s a very easy and fast read and overall I enjoyed it。 I felt the chemistry between Lily and Leo was lacking for me and I just didn’t fall for them as a couple like I wanted to。 The mystery was fun and chapter 10 definitely threw me for a loop - it made the whole book a lot more interesting。 I also enjoyed the twists at the end。 Overall, this isn’t one of my favorite Christina Lauren books, but I’m happy I read it! I absolutely loved this read, I was a bit sceptical to start with as I have a love hate relationship with some romances, but this was a romance like I’ve never read before。 It was full of adventure, drama and excitement and I loved how the second chance romance wasn’t the whole focus of the book。 Just when you think the book is going one way it knocks you over and goes a completely different direction, I was constantly on the edge of my seat and wanting to know what was going to happen next。 I I absolutely loved this read, I was a bit sceptical to start with as I have a love hate relationship with some romances, but this was a romance like I’ve never read before。 It was full of adventure, drama and excitement and I loved how the second chance romance wasn’t the whole focus of the book。 Just when you think the book is going one way it knocks you over and goes a completely different direction, I was constantly on the edge of my seat and wanting to know what was going to happen next。 I fell in love with Lilly and Leo and were rooting for them the whole way。 And LOVED the bad ass women who take no sh*t from men 💪🏻 Brilliant read and I’m looking forward to reading more from them! 。。。more

But otherwise quite enjoyed all of her sass and general badass-ery。I feel like the story took sooooo long to get Leo and Lily alone and then BAM, no longer alone。 Like, c'mon, can't we feel the heat just a little 😩 I've heard from so many people that this is their "best book yet" and, while good, I'd have to strongly disagree。 For me that title will probably always remain with The Soulmate Equation or The Unhoneymooners, but maybe that's because I enjoy a male lead with a bit of snark and dry humor to him 😉 。。。more

According to the authors’ notes, they wrote this to be a “fun, swoon-filled escape from the real world” and I’d say they accomplished that feat。 The writing style was very cinematic and I could see it translating well onto the big screen with all the action, mystery, and adventure portrayed in the story。 The setting and plot were immersive, and it was fun following this group of characters as they searched for valuable treasures that may have been found (and re-hidden) by Lily Wilder’s famous treasure hunter father。 There were a number of entertaining tropes, including forced proximity, second chance romance, and city boy/country girl。 My favorite character was hands down the MMC Leo, who was a delicious combination of nerdy, snarky, playful, logical, and soulful。 His banter with Lily was amusing, and I loved the maturity that both characters showed in the open communication of their exchanges。 I appreciated that the reasons for their separation in their youth were given to us without dragging out the drama too long。 I strongly believe this should have been marketed as adventure first, romance second, because the treasure hunting subplot was front and center for the majority of the story。 I wanted a lot more sweet moments between Lily and Leo, and I think I would’ve connected with their relationship better if we got flashbacks to show us what made their romance so significant that they never got over each other even after a decade of being apart。 Nevertheless, this was a fun story filled with some crazy twists that definitely would make for an entertaining film。 Temper your expectations for a romance story and it won’t be difficult to enjoy this novel。 If you’re into movies like National Treasure, Indiana Jones, and Romancing the Stone, this is a good choice for your next romance read! Something Wilder is out tomorrow, May 17th! 。。。more

Something Wilder has everything you can possibly think of in a romance novel – swoon worthy protagonists, fantastic storyline in an exotic setting and adventurous treasure hunts, full of fun and mystery。 Synopsis – Lily is a tourist guide running fake treasure hunts in the red canyons of Utah。 Having grown up with the notorious treasure hunter & explorer Duke Wilder, she is well versed in solving the codes & puzzles he casually left her with。 But it’s her father’s ranch that she is desperate to buy back & own。 When Leo with whom she had a fling over a decade ago, turns up as one of her guests, they are now compelled to confront their complicated history。 Unfortunately, their carefully planned treasure hunt goes awfully wrong & that’s when Lily needs to handle the mess her father has left her with。 Review - Oh what a fantastic setting! The authors take you on an exciting journey through the Wild West – the red canyons of Utah in all its glory。 Their descriptions are so illustrious that you can visualize the backdrop, as if you are right there! The narrative begins with a flashback of the events that happened a decade ago at Wilder Ranch, where Lily and Leo first meet and that’s the beginning of everything between them。 I quickly warmed up to Lily – her simplicity and resourcefulness with a tough exterior, yet at the same time a soft and caring inner persona - that is full of warmth and friendly nature。 Her initial trepidation at unexpectedly seeing Leo as one of her guests on tour throws her, but I loved how she quickly rebounded, unfazed and ready to face it all off。 Leo is just as much a sweetheart as Lily。 His handsomeness, charm, geeky wit and intelligence are impossible not to fall head over heels for! Lily’s fake treasure hunt tour that suddenly turns very real, soon becomes the spotlight here。 I enjoyed the intrigue and suspense packed into this - the way its linked with Duke’s past, his relationship with Lily and the cryptic clues he’s left behind for。 This convoluted game of life and death for Lily and Leo - as they navigate the dangerous mazes of the canyons, added in with some crafty twists and code deciphering, truly gives us all the thrills of the wild west as well as a heartwarming and a gorgeous romance。 Take it from me, the hype is almost always real with Christina Lauren! Thanks NetGalley & Little, Brown Book Group UK for providing the e-ARC in exchange of an honest review! As soon as you pick up this book you don’t want to put it down as you just end up dying to know what is going to happen next, I pretty much devoured it in one sitting as it just had my attention hooked from start to finish。 Now the characters, let me tell you, as soon as the MMC Leo showed up on the page, I was OBSESSED with him。 I love him and his character, and also the chemistry and on page connection between him and the FMC Lily was fantastic。 Despite them both having a slightly complex past together these two just work so well。 Their romance mixed in very nicely with the crazy plot that was happening in-between。I also really loved the side characters, they were written just as well and brought some really fun vibes to the story。 There was so many character interactions that made me laugh out loud, there was a ton of witty banter and who doesn’t love a friendship group you feel like you’d want to be apart of? Also a special shout-out to my boy Walter, he was my fav side character, a cute adorable soft boy, it’s so hard to not absolutely love him!I will say that the romance does take a little backseat for the adventure plot, so if you are coming into this book expecting really heavy romance/rom-com vibes that these authors usually bring into their books you won’t get that here, but it doesn’t mean it was any less enjoyable as there so much happening to keep you interested! If you are looking for a crazy read, packed with adventure, Wild West vibes complete with the desert background, horses and more, with some funny characters and lots of twist, turns, puzzles and just a whole bunch of wacky moments sometimes then I’d definitely recommend to pick this up for a fun, quick read。*A big thank you to Little Brown Group UK and Net Galley for an advanced e-ARC of this book!* 。。。more

Just know is the perfect summer read that I highly recommend checking out。Thank you Simon Schuster for the Arc in exchange for an honest review! 。。。more

thank you little brown for the netgalley arc! i LOVED this, this was such a different vibe from christina lauren and they did not miss。i wasn't sure how i would feel about the book being set in a remote area, first impressions made me think the book and the romance would be more slow going due to the setting。 but i was wrong because this book wasn't dull for one second。 i really liked the ranch and desert vibe, it made everything feel more high stake since the characters were secluded。 i felt tr thank you little brown for the netgalley arc! i LOVED this, this was such a different vibe from christina lauren and they did not miss。i wasn't sure how i would feel about the book being set in a remote area, first impressions made me think the book and the romance would be more slow going due to the setting。 but i was wrong because this book wasn't dull for one second。 i really liked the ranch and desert vibe, it made everything feel more high stake since the characters were secluded。 i felt transported in the desert scene and i could vividly imagine what it was like, the heat and surroundings。 i liked the main character lilly and leo, i could feel their chemistry and it didn't feel forced or wooden, their backstories as individuals and past together made me feel connected to them。 i didn't realise how much i would love the underlying mystery element to this book! so much drama and intrigue, i gasped out loud at certain revelations and scenes。 it was refreshing to read a romance book that had various side plots alongside the main story arc, it kept me engaged and dying to know more。 i adored it and i really hope they write something similar like this in future books! despite how much i loved this, i really hoped the ending was fleshed out just a little bit more especially with later revelations but it did not impact my enjoyment on this book at all。another fantastic novel from our favourite author duo! a sweet second chance romance with a hint of mystery and drama, i couldn't recommend it more! 。。。more

In ‘Something Wilder’ we meet Lily and Leo。 Years ago they fell madly in love after only knowing each other a short while。 Lily was about to take over her dad’s ranch, and Leo decided to stay with her。 Even though his life was previously in New York。 Everything seemed perfect between them。 But then one night, Leo receives a phone call and leaves Lily suddenly behind。 Lily never heard from Leo again, and now ten years later, life couldn’t have been more different。Lily never got to own the ranch。 In ‘Something Wilder’ we meet Lily and Leo。 Years ago they fell madly in love after only knowing each other a short while。 Lily was about to take over her dad’s ranch, and Leo decided to stay with her。 Even though his life was previously in New York。 Everything seemed perfect between them。 But then one night, Leo receives a phone call and leaves Lily suddenly behind。 Lily never heard from Leo again, and now ten years later, life couldn’t have been more different。Lily never got to own the ranch。 And now she is hosting fake treasure hunts with her best friend to make sure she is able to pay her bills。 After ten years she didn’t expect to meet Leo again when he is one of the tourists she is supposed to guide。 She is definitely troubled by seeing him again after all these years。 But she will never let him know, how much he hurt her。I definitely loved the idea of ‘Something Wilder’。 Even now when I’m writing this review, I still love the sound of this book。 But unfortunately it just didn’t really work for me and I found myself struggling to keep on reading。 The supposed romance between Lily and Leo, was something I just didn’t really feel。 They where supposedly madly in love once, but I just couldn’t really feel their chemistry。 And when life pushed them apart, I had trouble believing the fact that they just let each other go。 Now they meet again, and I would have loved to have felt more excitement and passion。 But they where just。。 It just didn’t work for me。What I definitely enjoyed was the suspense part in this book。 Sure, it felt a bit sudden, but I enjoyed the change and I found myself interested in learning more about what happened。 。。。more

No。 But was this book itself incredible? Yes。 These two women take their time, do their research and know how to craft an incredible story。 This is the perfect summer read, not because it’s set at the beach, but set out in the desert, under the blazing hot sun and enduring the elements, it gave everything it was supposed to give and more。Don’t clown me for this but National Treasure is one of my favorite movies and this has a lot of those enjoyable elements。 I don’t want to spoil anything but this book was unlike anything I’ve ever read from them and they executed it perfectly。Do I wish their newer releases were as steamy as their back log? Definitely yes。 As they’ve proven with many of their previous books, there is a way to write incredible plot with incredible sex。 Hot sex, imo, is one of the best parts of a new or rekindled or even existing relationship and I wish we got more of that in these amazing romances。 I know not everyone wants that in their books and I have to respect that i suppose, but Christina Lauren write some of the best steamy scenes I’ve ever read。 For my personal preferences it would take the chemistry and romance they consistently establish time after time in these books up into the stratosphere if I could get a little dirty talk。 。。。more
