a series of letters and poems about overcoming hardships and embracing the future。 divided into two parts, the anchor and the sail, "changing with the tides" touches on anxiety, insecurity, unhealthy relationships, loss, healing, positivity, and more。
to the anchor:
my head is still above water, though you wanted me to drown。 even your weight around my ankles cannot drag me down。
I didn’t like the writing style and I was hoping to gain wisdom from this book, but I didn’t unfortunately (not to say that someone else won’t)。
Brooke Goodwin,
To keep with the ocean aesthetic (and because this is just what I envision when I think of the book as a whole), I have the image of waves。They can be fierce and harmful or soft and soothing。 I think it’s a good representation of the internal struggles of dealing with heartbreak and deciding to love yourself instead。 I love the theme of self-love and, while I normally prefer more complex or layered poetry, I enjoyed the simpler style Shelby used in this context。 Her style, the imagery, and the a To keep with the ocean aesthetic (and because this is just what I envision when I think of the book as a whole), I have the image of waves。They can be fierce and harmful or soft and soothing。 I think it’s a good representation of the internal struggles of dealing with heartbreak and deciding to love yourself instead。 I love the theme of self-love and, while I normally prefer more complex or layered poetry, I enjoyed the simpler style Shelby used in this context。 Her style, the imagery, and the aesthetic of the ocean all flow together nicely。 Shelby also makes excellent points about self-doubt, self-love, insecurity, and anxiety that I really relate to as someone who has been diagnosed with anxiety (and who struggles with self-esteem)。Changing with the tides is a beautiful, powerful book - and a perfect introduction for people looking to get into reading poetry! It has a more simplistic style that’s easy to understand and also contains an emotional element that can connect with readers。 。。。more

It's amazing how the author managed to take us on a whole journey of pain, self hurt, self loathing, losing one's passion for life, to healing and breathing in the world around us。I highly recommend this one It's refreshing。 It's amazing how the author managed to take us on a whole journey of pain, self hurt, self loathing, losing one's passion for life, to healing and breathing in the world around us。I highly recommend this one It's refreshing。 。。。more

3。5* Split into two parts, 'Anchor' is about unhealthy relationships, insecurity, anxiety and loss and 'The Sail' is about healing, positivity and finding yourself again。 A few reviews said this poetry book felt like a hug and I agree。 I love how it’s structured into two sections (the anchor and the sail) and how each entry starts with “to the one who___”, which could apply to the same person or different people each time。 I did miss that extra punch that would transform these poems from relatab 3。5* Split into two parts, 'Anchor' is about unhealthy relationships, insecurity, anxiety and loss and 'The Sail' is about healing, positivity and finding yourself again。 A few reviews said this poetry book felt like a hug and I agree。 I love how it’s structured into two sections (the anchor and the sail) and how each entry starts with “to the one who___”, which could apply to the same person or different people each time。 I did miss that extra punch that would transform these poems from relatable poems to poems that had me reaching for tissues。 While it was a relaxing read, I wished it were more impactful。 。。。more

There were so many of these poems that resonated with my experiences and unlocked some feelings that I have never put into actual words。 I haven't felt this validated in my experiences through a book before and it felt amazing to know that I am not alone in this。 There were so many of these poems that resonated with my experiences and unlocked some feelings that I have never put into actual words。 I haven't felt this validated in my experiences through a book before and it felt amazing to know that I am not alone in this。 。。。more

Francine,
didnt make me cry and i wanted to cry
Tristian Marie,
i thought it was strong and well written。 i thought the ending was beautiful。 some people don’t like the poetry that has random enters and no capital letters, but to me it just makes it so much stronger。 great book, would definitely recommend。
Tatiana Haynam,
Some of these poems, maybe 15% of them, hit straight to my heart。 Beautifully written! However, the remaining 85% made me reminiscent of a teenage girl who is struggling to understand herself while navigating friends, boys and high school。 In that way, it was a bit immature for my taste but overall an okay collection of beautiful poetry。
laura,
this book felt like a hug but i need another one
