A lovely end to the Wizards of Once series。 Love listening to David Tennant as narrator。 Xar, Wish and Bodkin survive to the end。 The witch king is taken care of。

A good conclusion to the series! Not the immaculate show-stopper that How to Fight a Dragon's Fury, but this series is only 4 books long as opposed to the 12 books in the HTTYD series, so there's only so much build up Cressida Cowell could've done。 I was satisfied! Cowell is just a great writer and it's clear she takes so much care in her craft and her first priority is the reader。 I'd love to read these books to kids one day。 A good conclusion to the series! That ending was。。。unexpected。 (No spoilers。)Reading this series is like visiting an old friend。 You know, the kind that's always in a wee spot of trouble。 Also, listening to David Tennant's delicious Scottish accent read this book to me is lovely。 That ending was。。。unexpected。 (No spoilers。)Reading this series is like visiting an old friend。 You know, the kind that's always in a wee spot of trouble。 Also, listening to David Tennant's delicious Scottish accent read this book to me is lovely。 。。。more

Right? Because they're twins and one and the same and that we definitely didn't meet Perdita in book 1! Lies! The ending with the adult names is something that makes me excited and yearning for the author's take on Arthurian legend。 Fitting in terms of character design and the relationships set up。Sycorax seems to have gotten away clean。 Did everyone forget how she burn down forests and stripped magic creatures of their magic, crippling them in essence, and beheaded her supporters, and whatever creepy stuff was down in her dungeons? It's still a very entertaining book and enjoyable series, made even better with David Tennant's narration and voices。 He is PHENOMENAL!!! Each character's voice is so distinct and unique。 He brings the series to life! I'm considering listening to How to Train Your Dragon series just to get more of David Tennant! 。。。more

This is book 4。 I don't think you could start here and enjoy it。 Well done。 Our little heroes go through a lot。 Things are bad, and then better, and then bad again (of course), but it is exciting。 This is book 4。 I don't think you could start here and enjoy it。 Well done。 Our little heroes go through a lot。 Things are bad, and then better, and then bad again (of course), but it is exciting。 。。。more

My youngest son and I really enjoyed listening to this series together。 It was funnier than expected and love the characters and their quirky personalities。 We were a bit sad when the series ended and kinda hoping it was a trick, but no such luck。 Narrator revelation was super fun as we were guessing at the end of each book, didn't guess quite right, but we were close 😁! What was this trash?Where was the editor? The premise of this series was good but it descended into an incoherent and condescending mess by the end。What the fuck is going on????

This book got my hands dirty as it has dark drawings that remind newpapers。。。 Reading a few pages was quite the work without getting hands grey。。。 😆It was the final book in the series, it was sweet and cute! I did not see some of the revelations coming and because of that I realllllly wish that the author would write a new series with the characters all grown up because reimagining one of the greatest legends into a Wish, Xar and Bodkin adventure would be excellent! 🥰😊

The final book in this series was fun。 I enjoyed reading the series, but it was largely due to the characters, not the plot。 Each book ended with a surprise twist that had no prior hints or logical connection to the rules of the world。 So as fun and exciting as it was, it seemed to be Deus Ex Machina ending rather than a building up to a natural conclusion。 So, it felt much more like a ride in a land of whimsical magic--which is not what I enjoy most。 But, again, the writing was skillful enough The final book in this series was fun。 I enjoyed reading the series, but it was largely due to the characters, not the plot。 Each book ended with a surprise twist that had no prior hints or logical connection to the rules of the world。 So as fun and exciting as it was, it seemed to be Deus Ex Machina ending rather than a building up to a natural conclusion。 So, it felt much more like a ride in a land of whimsical magic--which is not what I enjoy most。 But, again, the writing was skillful enough and characters rich enough to make it enjoyable。 。。。more

Really loved the first 3 books and was really excited for this last book but for some reason right from the start it just didn't grip me like the other ones did。 I started eventually skimming and got to page 100。 Tried to just skip to the end to see what happens cause I wasn't caring but then literally got told off by the book for doing that so I went back lol。 After not picking it up for a few days I went to the audiobook to help me and managed to finish it but unfortunately I just didn't like Really loved the first 3 books and was really excited for this last book but for some reason right from the start it just didn't grip me like the other ones did。 I started eventually skimming and got to page 100。 Tried to just skip to the end to see what happens cause I wasn't caring but then literally got told off by the book for doing that so I went back lol。 After not picking it up for a few days I went to the audiobook to help me and managed to finish it but unfortunately I just didn't like this last book。 Also I didn't like who the unknown narrator turned out to be and I didn't like the weird Arthurian things that came in in the last few pages。 That was weird。 Soooo yeah Nah 。。。more

What a fun series! It subverted my expectations in some plot points and was predictable in others, but struck the right balance between the two for a middle grade series。

My favorite in the series, and you finally figure out who the unknown narrator is!

Wow!!!! That ending was magnificent。 Love, LOVE how the author dropped that huge surprise at the end。 Absolutely loved it。 I really hope this isn’t the end of the series。

A satisfying conclusion that sees significant growth for our protagonists Xar and Wish。 Some Arthurian allusions in the epilogue may seem unexpected, but it's a fresh perspective on the legend。 Overall, a great fantasy series for middle grade readers。4/5 A satisfying conclusion that sees significant growth for our protagonists Xar and Wish。 Some Arthurian allusions in the epilogue may seem unexpected, but it's a fresh perspective on the legend。 Overall, a great fantasy series for middle grade readers。4/5 。。。more

The time to face the King Witch is coming closer。 Heroes Wish, Xar and Wish’s bodyguard Bodkin have found the ingredients they need for a powerful spell to banish witches from their world。 Each ingredient was a quest in itself facing many dangers along the way, as they avoided their parents Warrior Queen Sychorax and Wizard King Encantor。This Queen & King are livid that their offspring keep escaping and pursuing, what they consider a foolish, dangerous and hopeless desire to fight the King Witch The time to face the King Witch is coming closer。 Heroes Wish, Xar and Wish’s bodyguard Bodkin have found the ingredients they need for a powerful spell to banish witches from their world。 Each ingredient was a quest in itself facing many dangers along the way, as they avoided their parents Warrior Queen Sychorax and Wizard King Encantor。This Queen & King are livid that their offspring keep escaping and pursuing, what they consider a foolish, dangerous and hopeless desire to fight the King Witch。 Even with Wish’s special magic against iron, they still find it hard to believe that their youngest children are determined to complete their quest。 Not to mention that for many eons, Warriors and Wizards have been dire enemies。Queen Sychorax and King Encantor know this rule well but broke it themselves many years before。 But you’ll have to read the books to find out what THEY did。 So back to the story…Xar still has the mark of a witch on his hand and is finding it more difficult by the day to fight the dark witch magic growing inside him。 He also struggles to continue to hide the pain it causes him, soldiering on with Wish, Bodkin and crew to find the King Witch。First they must find Xar’s older brother Looter who has something they need for the spell。 This causes Xar much worry and guilt because his favourite hairy fairy Squeezjoos has been also poisoned by dark magic。 Xar knows he must find Squuezjoos and rescue him before it its too late! And suddenly the moment has come。 They first make a deal with the King Witch。 He grants their wishes but claims he will soon be scorching the entire world to dust! Wish must now face the evil, powerful King Witch alone – with all manner of creatures, witches, giants and monsters looking on。 Will Wish’s spell work? The final in this thrilling series jam-packed full of witchery, sorcery, giants, a wizard queen and a wizard king who just might end up being proud of their rebellious children – sort of。Lots more action and the final battle to end all battles。 A spell has been spun, ingredients collected and a sword is ready to strike。 This being the fourth book in the series, I got to know the characters well and my heart was pumping while I cheered the young heroes on during the chaos of a magical fight to the death – but whose will it be?Another secret revealed is who the narrator of the story is…。 not telling! The books are full of drawings and sketches of the characters and action, but if you can get your hands on an audio copy too – it’s twice the fun with the book in your hand。 David Tennant is absolutely brilliant at telling the story, singing the songs, and giving the characters distinct voices。 I know these voices will remain in my head when I read this series again。 。。。more
