A guide to identify the thought pattern that keeps the physical illness staying, change the pattern into an affirmation, live the affirmation, and watch the symptoms range from harmless to zero。 Although this book doesn't have all the answers to health issues, it can serve as a stepping stone to lead to other healthier adventures; such as people, places, books, music, food, skills, and etc。 A guide to identify the thought pattern that keeps the physical illness staying, change the pattern into an affirmation, live the affirmation, and watch the symptoms range from harmless to zero。 Although this book doesn't have all the answers to health issues, it can serve as a stepping stone to lead to other healthier adventures; such as people, places, books, music, food, skills, and etc。 。。。more

Best to get a physical copy, as this book reads more like a reference book。 Probably good to pick up whenever you’re feeling one of the ailments。

I do think sometimes things can be helped by changing thought processes, but this book is incredibly ableist and doesn't take into account that sometimes shit happens regardless of what we think。 I do think sometimes things can be helped by changing thought processes, but this book is incredibly ableist and doesn't take into account that sometimes shit happens regardless of what we think。 。。。more

Short book but lots to think about。 Louise believes all illness stems from fear or anger。 It's an interesting premise and I'd like to practice loving myself like she explains in the book。 I'm great at caring for everyone but myself and I'm not sure how I'll change but I feel it's pretty important Short book but lots to think about。 Louise believes all illness stems from fear or anger。 It's an interesting premise and I'd like to practice loving myself like she explains in the book。 I'm great at caring for everyone but myself and I'm not sure how I'll change but I feel it's pretty important 。。。more

The way that the content is presented shouldn't say that you might cure incurable illnesses。 I know that she gave a lot of hope and a sense of wellness to people during a certain time period, but the work didn't cure them。 I think there is a lot of research that shows how much the mind and body are connected and how visualization can help, but it should not be implied that this will fix you。 It should also not be implied that you are at fault for your illness。 Blaming people for their illness is The way that the content is presented shouldn't say that you might cure incurable illnesses。 I know that she gave a lot of hope and a sense of wellness to people during a certain time period, but the work didn't cure them。 I think there is a lot of research that shows how much the mind and body are connected and how visualization can help, but it should not be implied that this will fix you。 It should also not be implied that you are at fault for your illness。 Blaming people for their illness is not helpful。 Nor is putting into their minds that it is their fault。 We have different thinking patterns with many being quite negative (that inner critic) and retraining some of the thought patterns may have physical/health benefits。 That's really all that needs to be said and then give people the encyclopedia of affirmations。 。。。more

I believe that the mind has a powerful connection to our physical health。 Buuuuut。。。。。I'm not convinced chanting positive mantras fixes all health problems。 Nevertheless, I think it is fun and harmless to connect body ailments to possible mind blocks。 And honestly, I do better when I concentrate on the mantras instead of the pain! This was part of a larger book (I think it was You Can Heal Your Life), but was separated into a separate smaller book as apparently people wanted just this portion they could use had a handy reference。 I'm not saying it's a 100% right, but I do believe that stress and less than helpful thoughts or beliefs can affect our health and this book might point you in a direction that may be helpful。 It might be more useful to read the whole book this is from, but I have used and recommended this book a This was part of a larger book (I think it was You Can Heal Your Life), but was separated into a separate smaller book as apparently people wanted just this portion they could use had a handy reference。 I'm not saying it's a 100% right, but I do believe that stress and less than helpful thoughts or beliefs can affect our health and this book might point you in a direction that may be helpful。 It might be more useful to read the whole book this is from, but I have used and recommended this book as a great place to start healing yourself。 。。。more

To preface- I understand the difference between disease and Hay’s “dis-ease” and I believe in the power of positive thinking, affirmations, forgiveness, letting-go, etc。 but this book just left me feeling like “are you serious with this shit?” If it were all so easy and not complex。 Hay was acting irresponsibly with this book because there are a lot of vulnerable people reading it who are easily misdirected and very susceptible to misunderstanding, which can lead to very terrible results。 Truthf To preface- I understand the difference between disease and Hay’s “dis-ease” and I believe in the power of positive thinking, affirmations, forgiveness, letting-go, etc。 but this book just left me feeling like “are you serious with this shit?” If it were all so easy and not complex。 Hay was acting irresponsibly with this book because there are a lot of vulnerable people reading it who are easily misdirected and very susceptible to misunderstanding, which can lead to very terrible results。 Truthfully, though, there are a million books out there like this。 It’s a dangerous world, folks。 Please, do these things AND see a therapist AND have the cancer surgery, FFS。 I think Louise Hay designed her life (after her divorce) where she was living on an island, which makes it easier to practice her own ideas and live out her ideals。 Clearly, this one isn’t for me。 To add, on a very superficial note, the font used in parts of the book for the infinity statements and chapter headings are pretty silly; kinda like those Blue Mountain greeting cards— the words mean a lot but it’s hard to take it seriously。 。。。more

Background: I'm writing a Masters thesis on Law of Attraction and Judaism, with a Chaplaincy focus。 I picked up this book as it is a popular one among Chaplains at a hospital I worked at in the past, not based only on one way/Jesus/Bible, but instead pulls from many teachings, across faith groups。 Lik Background: I'm writing a Masters thesis on Law of Attraction and Judaism, with a Chaplaincy focus。 I picked up this book as it is a popular one among Chaplains at a hospital I worked at in the past, and it also fit within the scope of my research。 This text is strongly influenced by Science of Mind/Religious Science (RS), which Hays follows。 RS is different from Christian Science in that RS is not based only on one way/Jesus/Bible, but instead pulls from many teachings, across faith groups。 Like its New Thought Movement (NTM) parent group, RS is more of a philosophy than a separate religion。 That said, in effect NTM seems to have been ‘reinvented’ in 1950s by Ernest Holmes in form of a religious group, although the New Thought Movement continually existed since at least the century prior, fully formed。 Hays is part of the new/religious set, but fits within NTM/Law of Attraction (LoA) grouping in practicality。 In this book, as one might gather from the title, there’s a focus on physical healing。 While that is often the focus of Christian Science writings, the NTM group is different in that there is a more holistic approach。 Heal your relationships/mind/thoughts, and the body will follow is the thought here, instead of the Christian Science focus on inherent holiness and perfection of the person because of being created in God’s Image, and the impossibility of disease。 Hay agrees that dis-ease is real, and looks for emotional roots。 This is something that Chaplains have been doing for quite some time, and that 12-Step groups are partly based on。 By this I mean, some of the teachings contained herein are of proven practical use, when used in coordination with other treatments。 In reading this book, it is important to note that Hay clearly separates dis-ease from disease。 I think a number of reviewers have missed this distinction。Hay’s book is broken down into a few sections。 She begins with noting (literally on page 1) that in the case of her own cancer, “I realized that if I had the operation to get rid of the cancer but did not clear the mental pattern that created it, then the doctors would just keep cutting Louise until there was no more Louise to cut。” The majority of the opening section of the book proceeds to discuss ways to change mental patterns, mainly by substitution of affirmations。 Hay notes (p。 7) that “The mental thought patterns that cause the most dis-ease in the body are criticism, anger, resentment, and guilt。” As a Chaplain, and having visited many, many people who come to the place of acknowledging that one or more of these things are really big in their lives, I believe this to be a solid observation。 I think it’s an ‘and’ thing。 We have genetics that predispose us, or encounter germs that affect us…but when we’re mentally in a good place we seem to have a stronger immune system and seem less likely to get very ill, and much more likely to overcome issues when they arise。 Many, although certainly not all, patients I’ve encountered DO have major resentment, anger, or criticism in their lives。 Holistic treatment of the patient is key to non-recidivism in hospital settings (and addiction treatment centers, etc。), and there is indeed more to wellness than health。 The majority of the remainder of the book consists of lists of diseases, coupled with what Hay calls ‘probable cause’ and ‘New Thought patterns, which are affirmations。 Some of the probable causes I found useful as springboard talking points at very least (example: Alcoholism, probable cause Feelings of futility, guilt, inadequacy。 Self-rejection。), whereas others I found hideous。 Overall, the book can be a useful tool, when used carefully, or could harm very badly if misunderstood or certain things used out of context。 Even in context, blaming patients for miscarriages, shingles, sterility, CP, rheumatoid arthritis, and many more things needs to be really carefully examined。 Some will be receptive to these thoughts and others will not, nor should they be brought。 It is very tempting to believe that we are indeed the masters of our own fates, and so we have caused all the issues we face。 It allows us a sense of power, no matter how we may have accidentally misused it in the past。 It is much harder to allow that ‘bad things happen’ and that we are in control of what we are in control of, and not more。 More useful is the author’s suggestion on how to use the book。 On p。 82 she suggests the ideal way of use is to “look up the mental cause。 See if this could be true for you。 If not, sit quietly and ask yourself, ‘What could be the thoughts in me that create this?’” I’d amend that to say ‘What could be the thoughts in me that contribute to this?’ as a way of acknowledging that actual disease does exist, and that our own dis-ease does contribute to our experience of it, and how severe it is。This book is very much take what you want and leave the rest, but for the parts that are of use (and that will vary by who you are), they are of good use。 。。。more

I think most of the negative reviews of this book misunderstood the mindset of the author。 And that mindset is the point; in order to begin healing physically you mist first want to heal emotionally。 Mind over matter is a tired cliche but there is a starting point contained within for those truly wanting to start a physical healing journey。

I mean, this book has great affirmations, but that is mostly what it is。 I’m all about affirmations, but I thought there would be more to it。 I’m going to read another one of hers, so many be that’ll be beneficial too。
