Audiobook。 Not my favorite of the series。 I really enjoyed the historical story set in Kenya。 Couldn’t stand Electra at the beginning。 Her character changed a little too quickly and neatly but oh well。

Wat een emotioneel boek， zowel het verhaal van Electra als dat van haar grootmoeder vind ik de meest pakkende van de 6 zussen。 Wat ik wel een beetje mistte was de struggle die je ongetwijfeld doorgaat wanneer je afkickt van een verslaving。 Ik had heel sterk het gevoel dat het best makkelijk was voor Electra om af te kicken， terwijl dit volgens mij helemaal niet zo is。 De invalshoek dat Electra niet enkel romantische， maar ook platonische en familiale liefde vindt， vond ik heel leuk en deze aspec Wat een emotioneel boek， zowel het verhaal van Electra als dat van haar grootmoeder vind ik de meest pakkende van de 6 zussen。 Wat ik wel een beetje mistte was de struggle die je ongetwijfeld doorgaat wanneer je afkickt van een verslaving。 Ik had heel sterk het gevoel dat het best makkelijk was voor Electra om af te kicken， terwijl dit volgens mij helemaal niet zo is。 De invalshoek dat Electra niet enkel romantische， maar ook platonische en familiale liefde vindt， vond ik heel leuk en deze aspecten kwamen ook nog niet eerder aan bod in de andere boeken。 Electra gaat echt van een zeer afgezonderd en eenzaam persoon naar iemand die werkelijk weer leerde aanvaarden dat er mensen zijn die haar graag zien， ongeacht wat。 Dat de schrijfster in elk boek vrienden van het hoofdpersonage voor het hoofdpersonage laat werken vind ik wel iets te veel geromantiseerd。 Zo makkelijk is dat niet， en ik ben van mening dat je zaken en vrienden best zoveel mogelijk gescheiden houdt。 Het verhaal over apartheid en de strijd voor gelijkheid vond ik heel mooi。 Zelf weet/wist ik hier weinig over， maar door dit boek werd mijn interesse toch wel gewekt。 Het respect voor de lokale cultuur in Kenia vond ik ook echt heel goed overgebracht。 Velen zien Afrika als en land en vergeten dat dit continent bestaat uit vele landen die binnenin ook nog eens veel verschillende culturen hebben。 Dat ze toch nog zoveel mysterie laat rond de Masai-cultuur vind ik wel een gemiste kans， ik had hier graag meer over willen leren。 Ik las achteraf wel op haar site dat dit een voornamelijk orale cultuur is en dit kan natuurlijk wel verklaren waarom ze er niet te diep op in wilt gaan。 Niet mijn favoriete boek van de serie maar wel een van de betere。 Ben benieuwd naar het verhaal over Merope xp 。。。more

As with many of the books in this series， I enjoyed the sections based on the past more than the ones happening during present day。 I LOVED Cecily’s character: bravery to explore new opportunities and the fierce determination to do the right thing despite what others think。

I absolutely loved this book as I have all of the others。 I am disappointed that people said it was racist。 Yes it’s hard for us to imagine living as they did in the 30s through to the 50s but that’s what it was like and let’s face it some of those issues continue to happen today in 2022。 The characters are written in such a real description I feel like I can see them and see the places and experiences they had。 I have one book to go and I can’t wait to read it but will also feel sad to get to t I absolutely loved this book as I have all of the others。 I am disappointed that people said it was racist。 Yes it’s hard for us to imagine living as they did in the 30s through to the 50s but that’s what it was like and let’s face it some of those issues continue to happen today in 2022。 The characters are written in such a real description I feel like I can see them and see the places and experiences they had。 I have one book to go and I can’t wait to read it but will also feel sad to get to the end of this incredible series 。。。more

4。5 stars， I was tempted to give it 5。 Definitely my favourite of the Seven Sisters books so far。 I was worried before reading it how she would handle the youngest sister but it was fantastic。 And the ending is a proper cliffhanger， can’t wait to read the Missing Sister！

Before starting this book， it was one of the stories I was least excited about。 However， it’s ended up being probably my favourite of the series！ At over 800 pages， it might be the biggest book I’ve read to date - however it didn’t feel overdone or long winded and not once was I bored。 I was just as captivated by Electra’s life， as I was her ancestors。

I had a vague idea that this story was a little problematic， apart from the pregnancy tropes which is what most of these books are built on。 However， after reading the reviews I do think that the depictions of race in this book are indeed problematic。 I invite potential readers to read some of the reviews posted under this book to judge for themselves。

I did enjoy this book， but after thinking about it there are lots of holes in this story。 Maybe a spoiler in here。 The author finally gets to Electra’s birth mother and her whole life is done in a few pages。 No mention of how “Pa” got to adopt her。 Why didn’t Stella take this granddaughter？ So many unanswered questions。

Electra est sûrement la sœur d'Aplièse la plus mystérieuse et énigmatique de la fratrie tant que ce qu'on a pu voir d'elle était maigre et peu glorieux。 Découvrir son histoire et sa personnalité était donc très attendu。 Ce tome se classe du coup en tête tant j'ai adoré suivre Electra。 Sous ses airs libre et décomplexé， on découvre finalement une jeune femme en pleine déchéance。 Mais son cheminement et sa rapide évolution personnelle font d'elle quelqu'un que l'on apprécie assez rapidement et qui Electra est sûrement la sœur d'Aplièse la plus mystérieuse et énigmatique de la fratrie tant que ce qu'on a pu voir d'elle était maigre et peu glorieux。 Découvrir son histoire et sa personnalité était donc très attendu。 Ce tome se classe du coup en tête tant j'ai adoré suivre Electra。 Sous ses airs libre et décomplexé， on découvre finalement une jeune femme en pleine déchéance。 Mais son cheminement et sa rapide évolution personnelle font d'elle quelqu'un que l'on apprécie assez rapidement et qui finit par nous impressionner。Afin de connaître les origines familiales d'Electra， l'autrice alterne une fois de plus passé et présent mais la différence majeure à noter est le fait que le lien avec notre personnages principal est clairement établie dés le départ。C'est à travers sa grand-mère Stella et une certaine Cecily qu'Electra va comprendre d'où elle vient。 Ses origines se trouvent sur les terres africaines du Kenya et cette histoire est tout simplement un vrai ravissement et une découverte magique。 Entre aventures et rebondissements， ce récit m'a subjuguée。 。。。more

Sin duda ha sido el libro que más he disfrutado de la saga de Las Siete Hermanas， tanto desde el punto de vista de Electra como del de Cecily， su antepasada。En estos seis libros siempre me ha gustado más el pasado o el presente， de manera que cuando llegaba a la parte que menos me interesaba se me hacía menos llevadero de leer， pero en este sexto libro ha habido un equilibrio perfecto entre ambas historias。El problema de Electra y su lucha contra las drogas， su temperamento y su caída en desgrac Sin duda ha sido el libro que más he disfrutado de la saga de Las Siete Hermanas， tanto desde el punto de vista de Electra como del de Cecily， su antepasada。En estos seis libros siempre me ha gustado más el pasado o el presente， de manera que cuando llegaba a la parte que menos me interesaba se me hacía menos llevadero de leer， pero en este sexto libro ha habido un equilibrio perfecto entre ambas historias。El problema de Electra y su lucha contra las drogas， su temperamento y su caída en desgracia hasta que， por fin， ha tocado fondo para intentar levantarse， lo perdida que estaba， la aparición de Maia y Ally。。。 Toda esta "primera parte" ha sido súper interesante， y puedo decir， sin temor a dudas， que el hecho de que me encantara el presente se debe al montón de secundarios muy bien llevados que acompañan a la protagonista en todo momento。 Mariam es maravillosa y que sea musulmana nos da un punto de vista muy interesante de cómo vive su fe （para los que no sean de esta religión como es mi caso）。 Stella empieza regular， muy recelosa， pero cuando te cuenta tooooda la historia con su hija entiendes perfectamente el motivo de una entrada tan glacial。 Lizzie me ha encantado y creo que ha sido la que ha mantenido a Electra en pie de guerra， y Vanessa。。。 Vanessa es la versión más dura del mundo de las drogas y un gran aliciente para la serenidad de la protagonista。 También están Tommy y Miles， pero sin duda la autora prefiere el trasfondo de los personajes femeninos como las campeonas que nos presenta。 Confieso que el cambio de Electra y su evolución me ha parecido exagerado y poco creíble， al menos en un periodo de tiempo tan corto y sin grandes problemas por el camino， pero ahí estaba la historia de Cecily para solventarlo， una historia que empieza muy similar a la de la antepasada de Ally， para luego centrarnos en su etapa más "dulce"， aunque nunca llega a ser una historia sencilla。 Una mujer que también tiene una evolución abismal desde que empieza el libro hasta que acaba， y cuya historia también está repleta de personajes muy pintorescos e interesantes。 En la historia de las hermanas anteriores veía que estás vivían una situación y se iban encontrando con gente por el camino que las acompañaba en su viaje de autodescubrimiento。 En esta he visto un ecosistema la mar de amigable alrededor de Electra， y eso me ha encantado y ha hecho que la historia sea mucho más rica。Para no andarme con rodeos， voy directa a lo que más y menos me ha gustado。Lo que más:-Personajes secundarios de ambas historias。-La evolución de Cecily。-Las referencias al racismo y a la lucha contra este。-La relación con Bill。。。 a ratos。-Las menciones de la Segunda Guerra Mundial y referencias al hotel Cecil。-La reacción de Cecily ante su madre con cierto suceso。 ¡Magnífica！ （Todo el que la lea sabrá a qué me refiero。）-El amor entre Cecily y Stella。-Katherine y Mariam。Lo que menos:-Me hubiera gustado ver más de Kenia y los masais。-La evolución de Electra， aunque bonita， me ha parecido exagerada y poco realista。-A veces quería pegarle un tiro a Bill。 De momento， mi libro favorito de Las Siete Hermanas， desbancando al de Ally， que había sido mi favorito hasta entonces。 。。。more

As usual， I loved yet another instalment in this series。 Despite expecting to dislike Electra， I ended up enjoying her character so much more than I thought I would。 My only criticism is this book is very long and， whilst that’s true of all of these novels， it felt like there was opportunity for this to have been trimmed down a little。 I still loved it， and I cannot wait for the finale book！
