It was a nice quick story that I came to like the characters and the plot was good。 But did not love it。 I know its a Quick Read。 But if it had been twice as long, I could've liked the characters more with more fleshed out personalities, yet as a short story it was a good amount of detail to plot It was a nice quick story that I came to like the characters and the plot was good。 But did not love it。 I know its a Quick Read。 But if it had been twice as long, I could've liked the characters more with more fleshed out personalities, yet as a short story it was a good amount of detail to plot 。。。more

A great start for a reader who is interested in reading Kate Mosse but hasn't before。 An interesting plot and a short, easy start to historical fiction。 I'll certainly be giving Mosse's other books a read after having a taster of her work。The book could have worked well as a novel。 Some parts felt a bit rushed but due to it being a quick reads it is entirely understandable as to why there was not greater description or detail。 Still a very enjoyable read for me。 A great start for a reader who is interested in reading Kate Mosse but hasn't before。 An interesting plot and a short, easy start to historical fiction。 I'll certainly be giving Mosse's other books a read after having a taster of her work。The book could have worked well as a novel。 Some parts felt a bit rushed but due to it being a quick reads it is entirely understandable as to why there was not greater description or detail。 Still a very enjoyable read for me。 。。。more

This does just what it says it's about as part of the QR initiative, with its short chapters and large font making it an easy read。 There is quite a bit of story packed within its 144 pages with the Black Mountain volcanic eruption on the island of Tenerife in 1706。 This could easily be a YA read too。 Enjoyable story。 This does just what it says it's about as part of the QR initiative, with its short chapters and large font making it an easy read。 There is quite a bit of story packed within its 144 pages with the Black Mountain volcanic eruption on the island of Tenerife in 1706。 This could easily be a YA read too。 Enjoyable story。 。。。more

ERUPTION 3。5 ⭐️ A quick read and a good one。 KM maintains her distinctive style over 130 pages making it readable in spite of the short sentences and simple language。 Ana is a likeable character and I learned about the Tenerife volcano which made it an interesting read。

A precious miniatureMs。 Mosse delivers again with an atmospheric short story。 Where this one lacks the supernatural aspect of some of her novels, she still delivers intrigue and a strong female lead, this one quite young。 I hope to never be closer to a volcanic eruption than her description of the black mountain。

A gripping historical novel telling the story of a disastrous volcanic eruption which occurred in Tenerife in the early 18th century。 Kate Mosse packs so much into this quick read。 The reader feels well and truly in the heart and heat of the drama unfolding through brilliant description and characterization。 A delight!

ShortQuite a good short story, do you think anything more could come of the characters。would be good to delve further into the story。

Very much fit for purpose as a reading agency quick read, this is a book with simple language, short chapters and a larger font than the average adult book aimed at adults who perhaps cannot or do not read much。 I found the story satisfying and, despite there being less character development than one would find in a full-length novel (especially one of the length that Mosse usually writes), I found myself really caring about the fates of the main characters for the short time that I was reading Very much fit for purpose as a reading agency quick read, this is a book with simple language, short chapters and a larger font than the average adult book aimed at adults who perhaps cannot or do not read much。 I found the story satisfying and, despite there being less character development than one would find in a full-length novel (especially one of the length that Mosse usually writes), I found myself really caring about the fates of the main characters for the short time that I was reading about them。 While this might not be a book that I would go around recommending to my reader friends, I did enjoy it for what it is intended to be, and I am excited to help it on its journey to another person who may be closer to its target audience。 。。。more

This book reconciled me with this author after reading The Taxidermist’s Daughter that didn’t seem to live up to the author’s usual standards。 This time, the story is short and takes place over a short period of time。

This is part of the quick reads initiative, a series of short books written simply but well, designed to encourage those who either don't read or who struggle to read to engage with prose。This is the first Kate mosse book I've read。 The quick reads books are good for trying authors before committing to larger books。 And an inexpensive way of doing so too。 I liked the story here。 Ana is a young woman on tenerife in 1706。 There is a mystery surrounding her father's death that seems to be linked to This is part of the quick reads initiative, a series of short books written simply but well, designed to encourage those who either don't read or who struggle to read to engage with prose。This is the first Kate mosse book I've read。 The quick reads books are good for trying authors before committing to larger books。 And an inexpensive way of doing so too。 I liked the story here。 Ana is a young woman on tenerife in 1706。 There is a mystery surrounding her father's death that seems to be linked to the awakening volcano。 The characters are good and the plot is swift and well constructed。 The writing is as ever in these books relatively simple which of course is the point of these books, the writing is also good and tells the story well。 I enjoyed this book。 The story is tense with the human machinations in the face of impending disaster showing human greed all to well。 A good (quick) read indeed。 。。。more

This is a Quick Reads short story and one that is a quick and easy read。 It is set in 1706 in Tenerife, this is an important harbour for trade。 Above the port looms the volcano, the story is the lead up to what happened prior to, during and after the eruption。This is a book that felt, for me, like a Young Adult, or Teen read。 I found the story to be simple yet still very good as I followed Ana around her home。 A story that is about the way of life at the time and what a young woman is expected t This is a Quick Reads short story and one that is a quick and easy read。 It is set in 1706 in Tenerife, this is an important harbour for trade。 Above the port looms the volcano, the story is the lead up to what happened prior to, during and after the eruption。This is a book that felt, for me, like a Young Adult, or Teen read。 I found the story to be simple yet still very good as I followed Ana around her home。 A story that is about the way of life at the time and what a young woman is expected to do。 Death and destruction are a theme of this story, but with it comes the truth about certain events。 While I really enjoyed this story I have to say I prefer the author's full-length novels。 This short story does capture the aspects of island life and the fear of what may happen as well as those who think everything will be fine。 This is a good story, it has drama and tension as well as hope for the future。 A story for those who want to dip into a quick hist/fic story。 I would happily recommend it。 。。。more

A light and easy read。 A young girl living on a volcanic island in 1700's tries to get to the bottom of her father's death, while the volcano growls worryingly in the background。 A light and easy read。 A young girl living on a volcanic island in 1700's tries to get to the bottom of her father's death, while the volcano growls worryingly in the background。 。。。more

Although the story is interesting, it lacked the language of her other books。 It seems to be geared for younger readers and skipped story details that may have made it more interesting; however, I did enjoy the story。

May, 1706。 Ana lives with her family in a small Spanish town in the shadow of the Black Mountain, a dormant volcano, that towers sleepily above them。 The town had always felt safe until that day - the day Ana felt something in her bones, in the earth around her and knew the mountain was getting ready to wake up。 But can she make anyone believe her? The Black Mountain is a nice short novella。 Set in the 18th century Tenerife it charts the struggles of Ana and her family。 One struggle against injustice and another against nature itself。 It is a perfectly light-hearted story that is well crafted。

A quick read indeed, whilst lacking in Kate Mosse's typical character development and world building this is a pleasant enough read which will hopefully introduce more people to Kate Mosse's books A quick read indeed, whilst lacking in Kate Mosse's typical character development and world building this is a pleasant enough read which will hopefully introduce more people to Kate Mosse's books 。。。more
