Despite the length of the book I enjoyed every minute of it。 I am a huge fan of Camilla Lackberg。 This was a stand alone story but I do believe there will be a sequel which I will be very keen to read。Julia Hammarsten heads up a special unit within the Stockholm police force that focuses on unusual cases or those requiring specific skills。 The team comprises Mina Dabiri， Ruben Höök， Christer Bengtsson and Peder Jensen。 Their first case is a gruesome and very unusual killing of a young woman who Despite the length of the book I enjoyed every minute of it。 I am a huge fan of Camilla Lackberg。 This was a stand alone story but I do believe there will be a sequel which I will be very keen to read。Julia Hammarsten heads up a special unit within the Stockholm police force that focuses on unusual cases or those requiring specific skills。 The team comprises Mina Dabiri， Ruben Höök， Christer Bengtsson and Peder Jensen。 Their first case is a gruesome and very unusual killing of a young woman who has been put into a box and run through with 3 swords， similar to a magician’s trick except for the deadly outcome！Although everybody plays a part in this increasingly bizarre case it is Mina who is one of the lead protagonists。 The other is Vincent Walder， a mentalist whom she recruits as a consultant。 Vincent is extremely observant and has a great working knowledge of how many of the magic ‘tricks’ are performed。 He is also a bit of a walking encyclopaedia。 It is Vincent who notices some strange little cuts on the woman’s leg。 Nobody thought much of it but he interpreted it as the Roman numeral III。 It is also Vincent who identifies the nature of a previous death that had been wrongly assumed to be a suicide and， on finding the numeral VI on the body， assumes it is a countdown。 Clearly there are more deaths to come。The two main characters were wonderfully portrayed。 Both of them a little socially awkward but they seem to click really well together。 Vincent is obsessed with numbers and rituals and Mina is a germophobe of the highest order。 While others mock her， Vincent is sympathetic to her foibles。 The two become very close and you start to wonder if there will be some romance。We also get flashbacks from 1982， insights into a dysfunctional family that suffered a great tragedy。Vincent is convinced the solution lies in numbers and he becomes obsessed with trying to pick the pattern。 Yet by now the rest of the team is questioning Vincent’s theories and some are even wondering if he could be the killer。 After all， he knows all about these tricks！Yet as the story progresses you become convinced the answers lie in the past and that something truly awful is about to happen。 The pace is steady throughout until it starts to gallop towards the finish。 There is a sense of impending doom through the whole story。 I thought it was totally immersive and brilliantly plotted with many moving parts that the author kept skilfully in play。 I found it highly entertaining。 Many thanks to Netgalley and Harper Collins UK， Harper Fiction for the much appreciated arc which I reviewed voluntarily and honestly。 。。。more

An endless book: 715 pages。 But still nice enough; there is an interesting plot and there are beautiful characters， very well constructed and characterized by many small details that in the end make us almost imagine them in front of us。 The writing style is very fluid and well aligned with the scenes that gradually unfold。 There is the right balance between the suspense， the daily life of the characters and even a pinch of splatter and the story is plausible， without ever causing certain situat An endless book: 715 pages。 But still nice enough; there is an interesting plot and there are beautiful characters， very well constructed and characterized by many small details that in the end make us almost imagine them in front of us。 The writing style is very fluid and well aligned with the scenes that gradually unfold。 There is the right balance between the suspense， the daily life of the characters and even a pinch of splatter and the story is plausible， without ever causing certain situations look forced。 The two main protagonists are Mina and Vincent: she is a policewoman from Stockholm and he is an illusionist， united in this very intricate investigation that in the end will reveal a nice twist that will explain the many mysteries that at the beginning of the book the reader is facing。 All in all， therefore， a good book， to be read to have fun and immerse yourself in mysterious situations。 If there is a flaw it is the length of the book; the two authors sometimes go too far in describing some situations and in some moments the pace slows down too much。 However， three stars well deserved。 。。。more

Es el segundo libro que leo de Camilla Läckberg y cada vez me gustan más sus novelas 。 Con más de 700 páginas nos adentramos a una historia atrapante que a pesar de su extensión se lee rápido。 Algunas páginas sobran， no les voy a mentir， pero en general me gustó mucho la historia。 Ambos autores se complementan de una excelente manera y no se nota en ningún momento que el libro está escrito por dos personas totalmente distintas。 Si les gustan los policiales no se pueden perder “El Mentalista”

El libro me ha gustado pero se me ha hecho un poco largo。 No obstante， después de leerlo y de conocer que los autores dan comienzo con él a una saga no me ha extrañado nada el número de páginas。La trama principal gira en base a una serie de asesinatos con un nexo común， son números de magia que han salido mal pero de una forma cruelmente consciente y voluntaria。 La investigación es llevada a cabo por un nuevo grupo creado en la policía， con la inspectora Mina como personaje principal， que pide a El libro me ha gustado pero se me ha hecho un poco largo。 No obstante， después de leerlo y de conocer que los autores dan comienzo con él a una saga no me ha extrañado nada el número de páginas。La trama principal gira en base a una serie de asesinatos con un nexo común， son números de magia que han salido mal pero de una forma cruelmente consciente y voluntaria。 La investigación es llevada a cabo por un nuevo grupo creado en la policía， con la inspectora Mina como personaje principal， que pide ayuda a un conocido mentalista， Vincent， formando el tandem protagonista。Tanto uno como otro son bastante particulares， él con un comportamiento del espectro autista （¿Asperger？） y ella con un toc de fobia a los gérmenes que le hace tener siempre a mano un gel hidroalcohólico， guantes， y demás parafernalia para evitar las infecciones。 Se desarrolla un vínculo especial， una química， entre Mina y Vincent。 Son dos personas en apariencia completamente diferentes， pero que parecen encontrar uno en el otro la comprensión y comunicación que nunca habían tenido con otras personas a su alrededor。 Alrededor de los protagonistas surge todo un grupo de personajes secundarios de los que los autores dan un detallado repaso acerca de sus personalidades y sus vidas。 Quizás esto es lo que hace que el libro se alargue y que parezca que sobran páginas， pero no es así si pensamos que se están creando unos personajes para escribir nuevos libros。 Los personajes son bastante creíbles: el soltero que se considera un regalo de Dios para las mujeres， el padre joven que trata de salir adelante compaginando familia y trabajo sin derrumbarse， el solitario y pesimista， el tipo que parece invisible， la líder femenina llamada a demostrar su valía en un espacio dominado por hombres… Al final del libro todos parecen encontrar su camino， pero quedan muchas incógnitas ya que en este libro solo están esbozadas las líneas generales。En el relato se suceden los acertijos， códigos secretos， misterios y sobresaltos que llegan de repente y despiertan la curiosidad por lo que sucederá a continuación。 Sin embargo， el ritmo aumenta y desciende a lo largo del libro， y es en los últimos capítulos cuando realmente la acción y el suspense me han atrapado。 Lo mejor del libro es que la trama principal， la de los asesinatos， queda cerrada con un final bastante impredecible， al menos para mí; no así las subtramas， que espero serán desarrolladas en los siguientes libros de la saga。Es un libro muy diferente a los de la saga de Fjällbacka。 El único denominador común que tiene con los de la famosa saga de la autora son los flashbacks al pasado， que son， al fin y al cabo， su patrón， el elemento que la caracteriza。 En conclusión， creo que ha nacido una buena serie protagonizada por Mina y Vincent， la policía y el mentalista。 En mi opinión este libro no merece la máxima puntuación， pero estoy convencida， sin embargo， de que vale la pena leer el siguiente， porque tiene todos los ingredientes de una saga policial con un gran componente de thriller psicológico。Mi valoración es de 8/10。 。。。more

Nuevamente sumergida en una novela negra que parece ser la primera de la serie que va de la mano de la agente de policía Mina y el mentalista Vicent， unos protagonistas nada comunes， que a mí me han resultado un poco agotadores con tantas rarezas。 La novela está entretenida， incluso acaba enganchando， pero no he sido capaz de conectar con los protagonistas ni con la historia。
