Summary

The Japanese phenomenon that teaches us the simple yet profound lessons required to liberate our real selves and find lasting happiness。

The Courage to be Disliked shows you how to unlock the power within yourself to become your best and truest self, change your future and find lasting happiness。 Using the theories of Alfred Adler, one of the three giants of 19th century psychology alongside Freud and Jung, the authors explain how we are all free to determine our own future free of the shackles of past experiences, doubts and the expectations of others。 It's a philosophy that's profoundly liberating, allowing us to develop the courage to change, and to ignore the limitations that we and those around us can place on ourselves。

The result is a book that is both highly accessible and profound in its importance。 Millions have already read and benefited from its wisdom。 Now that The Courage to be Disliked has been published for the first time in English, so can you。

Good book, hadn’t heard of Alfred Adler before or Adlerian psychology。 Interesting concepts of removing the idea of cause and effect mental traps that we use to avoid certain situations or taking actions。 Basically ends up with the philosophy of living in the here and now, with a big emphasis on community contribution while living for oneself。

Interesting summary of Adlerian approach。 Sometimes dialogue format was amusing

A great read for anyone who struggles with being a chronic people pleaser: a reminder that not everybody has to like us all of the time, and that's okay! I read this book chapter by chapter for nearly two months。 It became an evening ritual, to sit with the philosopher and youth。 I annotated and dog-eared and wrote comments to myself in the margins in a way I have never done with a book before。 I have struggled my entire life with courage and the concern for other people’s judgments and a deep-rooted fear of being disliked but never have I found the key to letting go of this concern。 True freedom IS being disliked by other people。 How simple? And yet, how difficult? This book, and the teachings of Adlerian psychology, have much to offer。 I have learned so much about relationships, community, courage, and contribution。 I already feel a change in the way I think and perceive myself。 I highly recommend for anyone feeling lost, overwhelmed, or any type of anxiety or unease。 It will change your life。 。。。more

This book is not for me maybe。 A few ideas of the philosopher I quite disagree。 Somehow he’s too selfish to me lol。 Some advice motivate me, some are not。 Many topics are kinda hard to digest。 Could you make it simple to understand? Also, this book is difficult to finish too。 There are chapters seem to be repetitive。

Opened my eyes to a new way of thinking。 I'd never heard of Adler before or teleology。 There is a lot to be said about framing your life based on now and not deciding your fate from what's happened in the past。 People can change the past but you can definitely help to mould the future。 Opened my eyes to a new way of thinking。 I'd never heard of Adler before or teleology。 There is a lot to be said about framing your life based on now and not deciding your fate from what's happened in the past。 People can change the past but you can definitely help to mould the future。 。。。more

Great FREE book on Audible。 It was longer than I preferred but nonetheless a good book。 The best ah ha chapter for me was about anger。 Completely changed my perspective on how I respond to people and things。

Liked the concepts & principles but hated the delivery。 Listened via audible and the narrators were annoying so that could be why

As someone unfamiliar with philosophy and history of philosophers, it is hard to be totally convinced by Adlerian philosophy。 The conversations in the book may also be a little long winded at times to me。 I wouldn’t discount the book totally and I would agree that there are some messages within the book that I believe are of value, and are controversial or hold a different perspectives to mainstream thought。 However, I did which these messages were more clearly stated and that the reader did not As someone unfamiliar with philosophy and history of philosophers, it is hard to be totally convinced by Adlerian philosophy。 The conversations in the book may also be a little long winded at times to me。 I wouldn’t discount the book totally and I would agree that there are some messages within the book that I believe are of value, and are controversial or hold a different perspectives to mainstream thought。 However, I did which these messages were more clearly stated and that the reader did not have to scrutinise the text to derive the key messages。 。。。more
