Summary

Lahore, Pakistan。 Then。
Misbah is a dreamer and storyteller, newly married to Toufiq in an arranged match。 After their young life is shaken by tragedy, they come to the United States and open the Cloud’s Rest Inn Motel, hoping for a new start。

Juniper, California。 Now。
Salahudin and Noor are more than best friends; they are family。 Growing up as outcasts in the small desert town of Juniper, California, they understand each other the way no one else does。 Until The Fight, which destroys their bond with the swift fury of a star exploding。

Now, Sal scrambles to run the family motel as his mother Misbah’s health fails and his grieving father loses himself to alcoholism。 Noor, meanwhile, walks a harrowing tightrope: working at her wrathful uncle’s liquor store while hiding the fact that she’s applying to college so she can escape him—and Juniper—forever。

When Sal’s attempts to save the motel spiral out of control, he and Noor must ask themselves what friendship is worth—and what it takes to defeat the monsters in their pasts and the ones in their midst。

From one of today’s most cherished and bestselling young adult authors comes a breathtaking novel of young love, old regrets, and forgiveness—one that’s both tragic and poignant in its tender ferocity。

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Sabaa Tahir comes a brilliant, unforgettable, and heart-wrenching contemporary YA novel about family and forgiveness, love and loss, in a sweeping story that crosses generations and continents。

Beautiful underdog story told in alternating voices。 Thoroughly enjoyed, although I wish I had greater familiarity with the music referenced throughout。 Highly recommend。

Holy shit this was good

4。5 rounded up to 5。 This was an excellent read that really made me think differently about people who are convicted of crimes, especially those who don’t come from a place of privilege。 Glad I picked this one up!

1am and i’m sobbing into my pillow。 this book tore my soul into pieces。 absolute masterpiece and i never knew how badly i needed pakistani rep in a book till now。

This was hard to read。 It pulls anger and conflicting emotions out of you in ways you expect a book like this to。 Though I have my fair share of reservations (hence why it’s not rated 5 stars), it was beautiful and complex and deserves a read by everyone

jzpeng

Some really devastating prose。 Would be a 5 star except for the little meta moment。 Consider as 4。5 stars。

Khushi

an exceptionally heartbreaking book about dealing with loss and forgiveness

I don’t fully know how I feel but do know I loved it! This book broke my heart and I thanked it。 Salahudin is so dear to my heart and I am sorry he had to go through so much。Also love Noor, she was a true gem。 And finally Misbah no words to say how I feel but I love her。 Such a great book and so beautifully written。

This book is definitely a lot emotionally to handle so I would recommend reading up on content warnings。With that said, this story is so captivating and emotional! The writing is beautiful as well。 The characters are amazing and the way their stories connect and share a bigger message about the American dream and being an immigrant is truly memorable。 This is an amazing book!

Courtenay

Really beautiful。 I was in tears at the end。 Read this book。

It's all I can think of after rubbing out the tears from my eyes。 Y'all already know。The Urdu/Punjabi had me grinning from ear to ear。 I appreciated that Taahir touched on the representation of Muslims, acknowledgment, and respect for wherever people are in their faith。 She touched on abuse, death, racism, and drug abuse with uprightness and respect。 Taahir took a story and wrote it out in a captivating and emotional way, a way that made me think about it long after I finished it。 Her story speaks for those who experience life as an immigrant, a person of color, someone who has lost a loved one, someone who experienced abuse, and really, for all of us。 I'd recommend reading the TWs before continuing。 Also listening to some of Noor's bops as well。I loved this book so much, that I can't keep quiet about it。 Enjoy :) 。。。more

A lyrical story full of tragedy and hope。 Told through the alternating perspectives of two present day teens (Salahudin and Noor) living in California, and the past narrative of Salahudin's mother, following her from Pakistan to the United States。 Some very heavy topics are covered。 A lyrical story full of tragedy and hope。 Told through the alternating perspectives of two present day teens (Salahudin and Noor) living in California, and the past narrative of Salahudin's mother, following her from Pakistan to the United States。 Some very heavy topics are covered。 。。。more

Wow。 i just finished reading and this book hit me so deeply that it made come out of my comfort zone and write my first review on here and if any book was capable of doing it, it would undoubtedly be a Sabaa Tahir book。 Sabaa really has a talent for making readers feel every excruciating emotion she decides to put on the page and this book was probably her best example of it。 the characters were written so vibrant and realistic with the things they felt and dealt with and it did an excellent job Wow。 i just finished reading and this book hit me so deeply that it made come out of my comfort zone and write my first review on here and if any book was capable of doing it, it would undoubtedly be a Sabaa Tahir book。 Sabaa really has a talent for making readers feel every excruciating emotion she decides to put on the page and this book was probably her best example of it。 the characters were written so vibrant and realistic with the things they felt and dealt with and it did an excellent job reminding me that life can move so quickly and do a complete 180 for the better or in this case, worse。 this book dealt with heavy topics with such attentiveness and care that i highly doubt anyone can walk away from it with out shedding multiple tears。 i especially loved how Sabaa dealt with conflict between friends and learning to forgive yourself and others。 another 5 star book from Sabaa Tahir that i would HIGHLY recommend!if you plan on reading it please check the trigger warnings which include: drug and alcohol addiction, physical abuse, mentions of repressed sa, death, and tense exchanges with law enforcement。 。。。more

Wow, this book blew me away and it was so different than what I expected from the cover (I don't know exactly what I was expecting from the cover but not what I just read!)。 It's about two brown teens, Salahudin and Noor (specifically Pakistani), in the very white town of Juniper, CA。 They are friends that are like family and each has a heavy emotional load to carry。 This book has everything - love, loss, grief, friendship and forgiveness。 There's a lot that happens in this book and if you are a Wow, this book blew me away and it was so different than what I expected from the cover (I don't know exactly what I was expecting from the cover but not what I just read!)。 It's about two brown teens, Salahudin and Noor (specifically Pakistani), in the very white town of Juniper, CA。 They are friends that are like family and each has a heavy emotional load to carry。 This book has everything - love, loss, grief, friendship and forgiveness。 There's a lot that happens in this book and if you are a sensitive reader, definitely check out the trigger warnings for this one。 There's so much music mentioned in the pages of this one。 I made a Spotify playlist and listened along and it really enhanced my experience! Sabaa Tahir woke up one day and decided to write a book that would break hearts! I loved this book。 The characters were so real, the situations devastating and heartfelt, and there was so much emotion packed in here。 I’ve never read her fantasy series but will now。 She has a great style of writing where her characters jump off the page and I could see who they were and how they would react。 Of course, I’m probably going to guess her fantasy series is a tear jerker too so I’ll need some time to e Sabaa Tahir woke up one day and decided to write a book that would break hearts! I received this book in a subscription box and it is the second book I've read this year that is more contemporary。 I've been wanting to expand my genres though unfortunately I'm finding that it's not my favorite。 Despite that I can still appreciate it and enjoyed this book。All My Rage is full of characters that you can empathize with as they experience life's challenges, disappointments, tragedies, grief and trials for both the current generation and those that came before。 It encompasses Faith I received this book in a subscription box and it is the second book I've read this year that is more contemporary。 I've been wanting to expand my genres though unfortunately I'm finding that it's not my favorite。 Despite that I can still appreciate it and enjoyed this book。All My Rage is full of characters that you can empathize with as they experience life's challenges, disappointments, tragedies, grief and trials for both the current generation and those that came before。 It encompasses Faith, hope, perseverance and the support of others as they all deal with these challenges differently。Misbah is one of my favorite characters and I especially enjoyed her narrative of the past。 Salahudin and Noor's relationship is sweet and heartbreaking at times and I especially enjoyed the fact that they were willing to take responsibility for their own actions and while they understood that their circumstances shaped their choices, they also understood that it did not make the choices for them。 And when choices did seem taken from them, they didn't just give up。Even characters like Taufiq and Noor's uncle had me feeling sorry for them even as I did not agree with their actions。A beautiful story, I'm glad I read it。 。。。more

It’s the best book I’ve read this year and maybe last year tooI am broken。 I am in lost of words。 It was that good。 It was amazing。 It was horrible。 But diffidently beautiful。 Indeed what else can we call a book that can touch your heart in such a way? I felt all Ama’s (mother of one of the mc, one of the POV) kindness, all of the Sal’s sorrow and all of the Noor’s rage。 I don’t think I ever cried that much over a book or root that much for any character。 The unfairness of their life made angry It’s the best book I’ve read this year and maybe last year tooI am broken。 I am in lost of words。 It was that good。 It was amazing。 It was horrible。 But diffidently beautiful。 Indeed what else can we call a book that can touch your heart in such a way? Wow。 This book was an emotional gut punch。 It was beautiful and real and heartbreaking and amazing。 Noor and Sal were characters that felt so real it was like I was in the room with them。 All of their emotions effected my own, and I was crying by the end of the book。

It is a little too YA for me。

I like how the story extended its grip on me gradually over time。 It gave me time to take in the heavy themes of the story and enjoy the innocence that friendship brought to the characters。 Loved this read!!!

Beautiful, heartbreaking, and addicting。 I so so so loved this book。
