Summary

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Julia Quinn comes the story of Eloise Bridgerton, in the fifth of her beloved Regency-set novels featuring her charming, powerful Bridgerton family, now a series created by Shondaland for Netflix。

ELOISE’S STORY

Sir Phillip knew that Eloise Bridgerton was a spinster, and so he’d proposed, figuring that she’d be homely and unassuming, and more than a little desperate for an offer of marriage。 Except 。 。 。 she wasn’t。 The beautiful woman on his doorstep was anything but quiet, and when she stopped talking long enough to close her mouth, all he wanted to do was kiss her 。 。 。 and more。

Did he think she was mad? Eloise Bridgerton couldn’t marry a man she had never met! But then she started thinking 。 。 。 and wondering 。 。 。 and before she knew it, she was in a hired carriage in the middle of the night, on her way to meet the man she hoped might be her perfect match。 Except 。 。 。 he wasn’t。 Her perfect husband wouldn’t be so moody and ill-mannered, and while Phillip was certainly handsome, he was a large brute of a man, rough and rugged, and totally unlike the London gentlemen vying for her hand。 But when he smiled 。 。 。 and when he kissed her 。 。 。 the rest of the world simply fell away, and she couldn’t help but wonder 。 。 。 could this imperfect man be perfect for her?

This was not the Eloise Bridgerton I expected from the show? Where was my snarky, feminist icon who never wanted to get married and had such big dreams? WHERE WAS SHE?? That's one of her main character traits, you absolute block of cheese。 I was F U M I N G。 The characters just didn't seem to fit together personality-wise and it drove me nuts。 I get, 'oh we're being realistic in our romances, we don't want the characters to just work together right away'--SHUT UP YES I DO WANT THEM TO BE PERFECT FOR EACHOTHER IMMEDIATELY OR AT LEAST WORK IT OUT BY THE END OF THE BOOK?? IT'S FICTIONAL?? is it too much to ask that Eloise of all characters not end up with a sexist man who for 90% of the book only appreciates her for her value as a woman-he-can-roll-in-the-sheets-with and mother to his children (because she actually spends time with his children when he refuses to face his damn trauma and be an emotionally-available father to them)?? This book was really good。 Okay, I get the people that say that Eloise falling in love like this and marrying someone with very stereotypical views wasn’t like her, and o don’t disagree。 Still, I think that the story was cute and it was very well written and it did keep me interested。 I definitely agree that it did not fit with Eloise’s character but the love story between her a Phillip was still swoon-worthy。 I enjoyed reading the parts where Eloise was with the two kids and she was playing pra This book was really good。 Okay, I get the people that say that Eloise falling in love like this and marrying someone with very stereotypical views wasn’t like her, and o don’t disagree。 Still, I think that the story was cute and it was very well written and it did keep me interested。 I definitely agree that it did not fit with Eloise’s character but the love story between her a Phillip was still swoon-worthy。 I enjoyed reading the parts where Eloise was with the two kids and she was playing pranks on them and they were playing pranks on her。 It was kinda funny and entertaining。 Something about Phillip was a little off-putting。 I’m not sure if it was the fact that even when his wife was alive he couldn’t be bothered to interact with his kids properly, to just his attitude in general but I didn’t like it。 The characters also just were meh。 I wish we got to see more of the Bridgerton family too。 I think that although Eloise is very different from everyone in her family, she loves them all a lot and they played a big role in her life。 I would have loved to see more of the family than just them finding her in his house and attacking Phillip。 Phillip was too casual about the whole marriage thing and it was getting on my nerves。 Also the fact that he was really only looking at Eloise as a suitor because he needed someone to look after his kids is just so annoying。 The plot about the nurses at the end also felt so utterly random。 I think maybe it showed the developing bond between Phillip and the twins, but I think it could have been incorporated better and in a way where it doesn’t feel so abrupt。 I don’t have a lot to say about this book other than it was okay。 I don’t hate the relationship, but it’s not my favorite。 。。。more

This, so far, is my least favorite Bridgerton book。 I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve season Season 1 & 2 of the Netflix series and they’ve made Eloise such a strong character。 I didn’t find that Eloise here。 She’s almost whiny。 And Philip kind of uses his past trauma into gaslighting her into agreeing with him。 If this has been the first in the series I would not have read anymore of the books。

Sir Phillip is the actual worst。

I really enjoyed this as Eloise is such an excellent character。 My favourite part was her brothers all coming in force to her aid to protect her。 The family are so funny and their individual quirks and personalities make reading these books an addictive joy。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 I have to say, I had a lot of mixed feelings about the book while reading it。 I felt a bit disappointed by both Eloise and Sir Philip character wise。 Eloise - for someone who considers herself “pragmatic”, running off to meet a man you don’t know, very well knowing you don’t have a chaperone and will probably be forced to marry him? I’m getting very very tired of that storyline … forced to marry to avoid excessive scandal。 And for all she knew, he could have been a total sociopath。 Sir Philip I have to say, I had a lot of mixed feelings about the book while reading it。 I felt a bit disappointed by both Eloise and Sir Philip character wise。 Eloise - for someone who considers herself “pragmatic”, running off to meet a man you don’t know, very well knowing you don’t have a chaperone and will probably be forced to marry him? Eloise Bridgerton is the most annoying of the Bridgerton clan for me。 I have no idea why。 Maybe it's that she never shuts up, always has something witty/cutting to say—I know that last bit is supposed to make a romantic heroine interesting。 In her case, it does not。 It makes her almost insufferable, and I was delighted to see Philip Crane tell her exactly that as their relationship unfolded。 That said, their relationship was easily my second favorite to read about in the series。 Their ending fel Eloise Bridgerton is the most annoying of the Bridgerton clan for me。 I have no idea why。 Maybe it's that she never shuts up, always has something witty/cutting to say—I know that last bit is supposed to make a romantic heroine interesting。 In her case, it does not。 It makes her almost insufferable, and I was delighted to see Philip Crane tell her exactly that as their relationship unfolded。 That said, their relationship was easily my second favorite to read about in the series。 Their ending felt earned。 。。。more

But now she thinks maybe it's better than being alone among all the cozy lovebirds in her family。 She sneaks off when no one will notice her absence, and arrives unannounced at the Crane home。 Having given no notice, there was no time to arrange for a chaperone。 The children are determined to drive her away。 Antics ensue。 And suddenly the Bridgerton brothers are breaking down the door to protect their sister's honor, and Eloise is force to marry Phillip before she's made the decision that they will make a good match, because no chaperone means Eloise will be ruined if anyone finds out she left London, and people always find out such things。Eloise is exactly what the Cranes need。 Stable, strong, clever, and also nurturing。。。the perfect mother for the children。 But is that enough of a reason to marry Phillip when she's only known him a week or two? Does he want her to be a mother to his children or to be his wife? She doesn't like being forced into the position and is rather impatient to figure things out for herself, but her mother reminds her that patience is not a virtue she possesses and she must learn to give things time。Have I mentioned I LOVE Violet Bridgerton? She's the most amazing and intuitive mother。 She gives each of her children exactly what they need。 。。。more
