Summary

In this second book of the Jane Austen Murder Mystery series, Tirzah Price takes readers for another fun, murderous romp through one of Austen’s beloved novels。 Perfect for fans of The Lady Janies and Stalking Jack the Ripper

When eighteen-year-old aspiring scientist Elinor Dashwood discovers her beloved father slumped over the desk of his office study, she knows his death means dire straits for the Dashwood women。 To make matters worse, an outdated will entails his estate—including Norland & Company, the private investigation firm where her younger sister Marianne worked as her father’s partner and protégé—to their half-brother and his haughty wife, who waste no time in forcing the Dashwoods out of their home and into a cramped apartment on London’s Barton Street。

But before they go, the Dashwood sisters make a startling discovery: a suspicious substance in their father’s teacup—one that can only be described as poison。 And poison, as Marianne’s father taught her, always points to murder。

It could be dangerous; it could ruin their reputations; and most importantly, it won’t bring back their father。 But if the Dashwood sisters can combine their talents and bring their father’s murderer to justice, it may bring them all some comfort—and it might even lead to love。

Pride and Premeditation is a romantic and entertaining page-turner, sure to delight readers of any genre。” —Kerri Maniscalco, #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Stalking Jack the Ripper series

i LOVED the first book in this series, and the second didn’t disappoint。 i really liked the characters and the side characters。 i liked how we jumped straight into the mystery。 i will say i spoiled a bit for myself。 it was definitely a little easy to put some things together, but how they all connected was truly interesting and unique。 i wish there was a little more romance。 i will be waiting until next year for the third book! it’s crazy how i added this a year ago and now it’s here。 4。2 ⭐️

I loved this。 Sense and Sensibility is my favorite Austen novel, so I had high hopes for this and luckily it worked out。 This has similar bones to the original book but is a new take on the story。 I liked how the sister dynamics were explored and how well balanced it was between Marianne and Elinore。 I also loved how terrible Fanny was。 I appreciated the changes from the original story and I liked how there was less focus on the romance。 The cameos from Prime and Premeditation (doesn't spoil any I loved this。 Sense and Sensibility is my favorite Austen novel, so I had high hopes for this and luckily it worked out。 This has similar bones to the original book but is a new take on the story。 I liked how the sister dynamics were explored and how well balanced it was between Marianne and Elinore。 I also loved how terrible Fanny was。 I appreciated the changes from the original story and I liked how there was less focus on the romance。 The cameos from Prime and Premeditation (doesn't spoil anything) were a great touch! 。。。more

I absolutely loved this! It’s hard to find a book that is so captivating and entertaining while also being clean。 It’s refreshing! I adored Pride and Premeditation so I knew I had to get my hands on this as soon as it came out and it did not disappoint!! Looking forward to more from the Jane Austen murder mystery world !! 🥰

Huge thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Tirzah Price for the free copy in exchange for an honest review。Honestly, this book was so heartfelt and perfect。 I loved it。The idea of two sisters working together was at first a bit meh for me as I generally don’t enjoy that kind of trope in a book。 I don’t have a sister, so I just don’t generally connect with those kinds of stories。 However, shame on me for forgetting Austen’s pure witticisms and character development and the fact that Tirzah Pri Huge thanks to NetGalley, Harper Collins, and Tirzah Price for the free copy in exchange for an honest review。Honestly, this book was so heartfelt and perfect。 I loved it。The idea of two sisters working together was at first a bit meh for me as I generally don’t enjoy that kind of trope in a book。 I don’t have a sister, so I just don’t generally connect with those kinds of stories。 However, shame on me for forgetting Austen’s pure witticisms and character development and the fact that Tirzah Price captures them again so well。One sister an investigator, one a scientist。 It was the perfect duo and I loved how the story ended。 I even really enjoyed Margaret’s role as a novelist and her exaggerated recounts of the story。I am not as familiar with Sense and Sensibility, so I was genuinely not quite sure which way the story would go。 In the end, I was very happy with it all。 I love a good epilogue that gives everyone a HEA。 。。。more

A charming and fast-paced book that does great justice to the Dashwood sisters (including Margaret!) and their relationship。 Like Pride & Premeditation, the romance in these takes second place to the mystery and action。 I recommend it for fans of historical mysteries and Austen retellings。

Thank you, NetGalley, Tirzah Price and HarperTeen for the chance to read this eARC in exchange for my honest opinions。 This novel continues the reimagining mystery series after Pride and Premeditation。 It was a fun, cozy and charming whodunnit that captured the essence of the Dashwood sisters。 In this YA story, the sisters must work together to investigate the death of their father, all while trying to adapt to a new life outside of high society。 The author appropriately gives each of the sister Thank you, NetGalley, Tirzah Price and HarperTeen for the chance to read this eARC in exchange for my honest opinions。 This novel continues the reimagining mystery series after Pride and Premeditation。 It was a fun, cozy and charming whodunnit that captured the essence of the Dashwood sisters。 In this YA story, the sisters must work together to investigate the death of their father, all while trying to adapt to a new life outside of high society。 The author appropriately gives each of the sisters their own skillset based on the interests they had in the original book, but examines them in more of a progressive light。 Each of their skills contributes to the case and the bonding that is intricate to their success。 I would recommend this retelling to all that love mysteries, tales of sisterhood and Jane Austen。 。。。more

I mean saying as Pride & Prejudice and Zombies was amazing, who wouldn’t love a Jane Austen + murder mystery combo?

I wasn't sure how this series was going to go。 I wasn't sure if this would be a series of stand alones set in the same world or a series where Darcy and Lizzie would go around solving murders。 Would have been happy either way。 Longbourn is mentioned but Darcy and Lizzie did not return。 The Dashwood sisters have to figure it out for themselves。 As you can imagine this is a very loose interpretation。 Fun though。 Looking for to the next in the series I wasn't sure how this series was going to go。 I wasn't sure if this would be a series of stand alones set in the same world or a series where Darcy and Lizzie would go around solving murders。 Would have been happy either way。 Longbourn is mentioned but Darcy and Lizzie did not return。 The Dashwood sisters have to figure it out for themselves。 As you can imagine this is a very loose interpretation。 Fun though。 Looking for to the next in the series 。。。more

I really enjoyed this! Ms。 Price sure knows how to capture Jane Austen’s characters and model them into her own。The sisterly bond was my favorite part about this book。 I loved how Each girl had their own interests。 The murder mystery in this book was good and inky slightly predictable。 However, I didn’t predict all of it which was nice。Highly recommend if you want a quick read and are a huge Jane Austen fan like me。Also, I think I liked this better than Pride & Premeditation。

Not my cup of tea。 I enjoyed the first book in this series but struggled to connect to the characters or the mystery in this one。 Did not feel like a very true adaptation of Sense & Sensibility。 I could find very few similarities。。 For some reason the writing style didn’t work for me this time。 Wanted to feel more about the sisters and their relationship。 The mystery was not compelling enough to make me invested in the story。 Many other readers enjoyed this,。 I am clearly in the minority。 Reader Not my cup of tea。 I enjoyed the first book in this series but struggled to connect to the characters or the mystery in this one。 Did not feel like a very true adaptation of Sense & Sensibility。 I could find very few similarities。。 For some reason the writing style didn’t work for me this time。 Wanted to feel more about the sisters and their relationship。 The mystery was not compelling enough to make me invested in the story。 Many other readers enjoyed this,。 I am clearly in the minority。 Readers who like Regency era books might enjoy this one。Thank you to NetGalley and HaperCollins for the ARC。 。。。more

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️。5Follow-up to Pride and Premeditation, a retelling of Jane Austen’s Sense and Sensibility。 Marianne and Elinor decide to investigate the sudden and suspicious death of their father while trying to navigate their new social and living situations。 Who can they trust with this case and their hearts?A timely conversation about pain medications and the use of opium (read as opiates) can also be found。 And as a med school student, I must say it’s pretty well done。

I thoroughly enjoyed this retelling, perhaps even more than her Pride and Premeditation。 It was smart, clever, and a worthy Austen retelling。

I enjoyed this reimagining。 Marianne’s more of a bully here, though, which made me like her less。 I’ve always had a soft spot for Elinor, and I especially love how she came into her own in the last third of the book。I also like how the two sisters weren’t just wasting away over their love interests。 Great twist on how Marianne reacts to the truth about Willoughby, and I like how Elinor was critical over Edward’s cowardice。 Edward does end up proving himself worthy for her though。 And Col。 (or in I enjoyed this reimagining。 Marianne’s more of a bully here, though, which made me like her less。 I’ve always had a soft spot for Elinor, and I especially love how she came into her own in the last third of the book。I also like how the two sisters weren’t just wasting away over their love interests。 Great twist on how Marianne reacts to the truth about Willoughby, and I like how Elinor was critical over Edward’s cowardice。 Edward does end up proving himself worthy for her though。 And Col。 (or in this case, Mr。) Brandon is always Mr。 Dependable。And yay, Margaret gets in on the action as well! She’s not just the youngest sister everyone passes on because they think her annoying (and she never was; I always thought she was just precocious for her own good)。I have not read Pride and Premeditation, but yes, there is a crossover reference in this book to Price’s first one。 Don’t know if I’ll read it any time soon; even though P&P made me an Austen fan, I think I’ve had more than my share of remakes for now。 🙂Will be interested to see what Manslaughter Park would be like, even though Mansfield Park’s not really one of my faves。 Will also be hoping for a Persuasion reimagining。 🥺🙏🏼 。。。more
