Very cute manga for middle graders who want an Alice in Wonderland/Cinderella retelling。 Nothing very new in the manga world, the main character is a little too slow on the uptake, but the illustrations are adorable and I am sure lots of preteens will just adore this book。 I prefer my manga a little more mature and faster paced, but the world is interesting, and the mystery will make people want to keep reading。

3。5 starsThis was super cute! The art was really pretty and done well。 It was a little slow and sometimes the dialogue didn't feel natural, but it was still enjoyable。 I like that Alice loves reading and is named after Alice in Wonderland。 It's fun to see the similarities to AIW and this manga, but I really enjoy the unique spin they put on it as well。 I will definitely be reading Vol。 2! Many thanks to Netgalley and TokyoPop for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review。I love retellings and this alice in wonderland retelling was done well。 Enjoyed every aspect of this fantastical world created by the author。 Alice loves reading books, she is an orphan and lives with her relatives。 But she suffered through mental abuse by her uncles who kept viewing her as a burden and wanted to get rid of her。 So to get away from the suffocating household, she decided to move back to Kyoto, he Many thanks to Netgalley and TokyoPop for the e-arc in exchange for an honest review。I love retellings and this alice in wonderland retelling was done well。 Enjoyed every aspect of this fantastical world created by the author。 Alice loves reading books, she is an orphan and lives with her relatives。 But she suffered through mental abuse by her uncles who kept viewing her as a burden and wanted to get rid of her。 So to get away from the suffocating household, she decided to move back to Kyoto, her hometown and find a job as a maiko (i believe is a apprentice to geisha/young geisha in training)。 She was unexpectedly entered into a different world set in old times Japan and at first she didnt notice the weirdness but once she got a revealation of the appearance of deity, she was strucked by the bizarreness。 She was also turned older because of the rules in the world。The world building was interesting。 Im intrigued to know more of the place and to see Alice's character development。 There are childhood backstory which i like since im expecting of the love interest to appear soon。 Overall, an enjoyable read 。。。more

Thank you to netgalley and Tokyopop for an arc!I normally don’t usually like retelling a lot tbh but I actually really enjoyed this manga! An interesting first volume!I really like the universe of Alice in Wonderland, so it was with great pleasure that I immersed myself in this manga。 I enjoyed reading and the Japanese adaptation。 Nevertheless, this first volume is really an introductory volume and the sequel promises to be more interesting in terms of action。The graphic style is very nice and I'm curious to discover other works by the author。In short, a great discovery! ^^ An interesting first volume!I really like the universe of Alice in Wonderland, so it was with great pleasure that I immersed myself in this manga。 I enjoyed reading and the Japanese adaptation。 Nevertheless, this first volume is really an introductory volume and the sequel promises to be more interesting in terms of action。The graphic style is very nice and I'm curious to discover other works by the author。In short, a great discovery! ^^ 。。。more

This was a cute and comfy lil read! It’s a retelling of Alice in Wonderland, it definitely takes from other childhood stories like Cinderella as well。 It’s a nice little palette cleanser, though it’s pretty fast paced。Thanks to TOKYOPOP for sending an advanced copy to review!

This has the potential to be a really good series, but this first volume has so much setup and exposition that by the time you really start to get into it, it's over。 I really like the concept fo the Kyoto Forest Alice is transported to, and am intrigued to learn more about her relationship with Ren, and how she'll find her purpose in this new land! Alice in Kyoto Forest is a retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland。 It’s very loosely based as far as the first volume goes, with the manga leaning more heavily towards Japanese culture, which I find interesting。 The first volume gives a glimpse of what Alice went through growing up and how it gave her the courage to move forward with her life independently - but in doing so, she ended up in a world unknown to her。The manga is beautifully illustrated, especially with its historical Japanese Alice in Kyoto Forest is a retelling of the classic Alice in Wonderland。 It’s very loosely based as far as the first volume goes, with the manga leaning more heavily towards Japanese culture, which I find interesting。 The first volume gives a glimpse of what Alice went through growing up and how it gave her the courage to move forward with her life independently - but in doing so, she ended up in a world unknown to her。The manga is beautifully illustrated, especially with its historical Japanese setting。 The story is fascinating because there’s a lot of mystery in this volume that has yet to unfold。 We are introduced to a different world and mysterious characters。 This volume is just an introduction to Alice and her surroundings, and I’m looking forward to what happens next。Thank you, NetGalley and Tokyopop, for the e-ARC。 。。。more

Alice in Wonderland was a fantastic read for me, but the retellings tend to become too predictable, to similar。。。This manga, while taken from the classic, has the potential of creating a new different world where you don't know what to expect。Don't get me wrong。。。This is not a mysterious fantasy full of plot twists or whatever。 No。 It's a simple story, an easy read where what matters are the feelings more than other aspects of the story。 I would recommend this manga, in general。 But specifically to fans of Kobato by Clamp。 It has the same vibes。 Do you enjoy Kobato? Trust me, this is your next manga。There's a negative thing I would like to pinpoint because I wouldn't feel sincere if I don't say it。 While the drawing style is super cute, I feel like it lacks in some aspects。。。Like all the effort is centered on Alice all the time?。。。 Maybe? 。。。more
