Summary

2018 Reprint of the 1913 Edition。 As a Man Thinketh was first published in 1903。 In it, Allen describes how man is the creator and shaper of his destiny by the thoughts which he thinks。 We rise and fall in exact accordance with the character of the thoughts which we entertain。 Our environment is the result of the thoughts that we harbor and the behavior that our thoughts bring about。 Part of the New Thought Movement, Allen reveals the secrets to having the most fulfilling existence possible, guided by a proper understanding and appreciate of how thought shapes our lives。 Allen advises on how to better manage our thoughts and how to direct them into more constructive behavior。 Though written more than one hundred years ago, the language and resonance of this classic still hold up today, inviting each of us to reflect not on the world and others, but our own thoughts and how to regain their possession。 The title for the essay comes from the Bible: "As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he," Proverbs, chapter 23, verse 7。 In more than a century, As A Man Thinketh has become an inspirational classic, selling millions of copies worldwide and bringing faith, inspiration, and self- healing to all who have encountered it。

Not necessarily a bad book, just not right for me。 The things he writes about is general knowledge and I didn't learn about anything new。 However these kinds of life lessons might fit someone else。 Maybe someone younger? It is one of those books, where you highlight every word。 This book is very crisp, to the point and delivers the message in a clear method。 The processes of controlling the thoughts is not easy, it's a life long pursuit; so, let's live better, let's keep trying to become better! Quick read。 While I have no doubt that someone focused on improving their life will eventually improve it, this book oversimplifies in many cases and casts aside the complexity of actual life and circumstances of living。 As Picard said, "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose"。 I don't believe all wrong doers are punished or that all virtuous people prosper。 Evidence shows that karma in a cosmic justice doesn't exist as we know today。 Otherwise there would be no need for the justice Quick read。 While I have no doubt that someone focused on improving their life will eventually improve it, this book oversimplifies in many cases and casts aside the complexity of actual life and circumstances of living。 As Picard said, "It is possible to commit no mistakes and still lose"。 I don't believe all wrong doers are punished or that all virtuous people prosper。 Evidence shows that karma in a cosmic justice doesn't exist as we know today。 Otherwise there would be no need for the justice system。 I also disagree that harboring impure thoughts ensures disease。 Keeping your mind active learning and always seeking growth is a good thing but to assume you bring sickness upon yourself simply because you didn't raise your thinking to ascended positivity is ridiculous。 。。。more

This book emphasizes the power of thoughts。 The author has compared the thoughts of a person to a garden where unwanted weeds are removed so that they don't inhibit the growth of good fruits。 Similarly, the kind of thoughts, which one lets in his mind, results in the good and bad accordingly。 As a reaper of his own  thoughts, man learns both by suffering and blessings。 Clean and pure thoughts push the man towards sanctity, bad and fearful thoughts brims the heart with weakness。 No one is strong This book emphasizes the power of thoughts。 The author has compared the thoughts of a person to a garden where unwanted weeds are removed so that they don't inhibit the growth of good fruits。 Similarly, the kind of thoughts, which one lets in his mind, results in the good and bad accordingly。 As a reaper of his own  thoughts, man learns both by suffering and blessings。 Clean and pure thoughts push the man towards sanctity, bad and fearful thoughts brims the heart with weakness。 No one is strong or weak by his outer shell, instead the strength and weakness of a person is solely based on the state of mind。 A young lady shall look old but an old woman may look young, just depending upon the thoughts they have。 Clean thoughts leads to calmness of mind。 An untainted state of mind, bristled with pure and sacred thoughts makes a man calm。 A man who is equipoised, is like a tree who gives shade and shelter to everyone。 He is always loved and revered by everyone。 And this is called serenity, the fruitage of the soul。Though being a short book, it makes you ponder on your thought process making your heart poise and serene。 One cannot achieve this in just one day, but can attain serenity by accomplishing self-control and by filtering the kind of thoughts one encounters。 。。。more

I give this book 3 stars because the book is good but it could have been covered in 20 pages。 The author repeated the same thing over and over again! I suggest this book but skim through it。

There is an importance in really internalizing your positive thoughts and dreams to yourself and really understanding what it is you believe in。 Without it, there can be an easy conflict between animalistic desires and what you actually want out of life。 While this book brought nothing really new to mind, it helped reinforce ideas that were being left behind。

Great bookI really liked all the different perspectives on each subject。 I would recommend this book to any person looking to change their mind set。 This book has really good information that you are able to use anytime you face a difficult situation, it makes you think about what is important at that moment and to self reflect。

This book is so insightful and thought-provoking even though it was only about 100 pages long。 It talks about mind-to-body connection and literally emphasizes the fact that circumstances don't happen to a person, but a person's thoughts present themselves as circumstances/fate。 It doesn't talk superficially at all - there is an instance/example for everything he says。 My favorite part of the book was definitely when it talked about dreams and aspirations - I'm the kind of person who works on a p This book is so insightful and thought-provoking even though it was only about 100 pages long。 It talks about mind-to-body connection and literally emphasizes the fact that circumstances don't happen to a person, but a person's thoughts present themselves as circumstances/fate。 It doesn't talk superficially at all - there is an instance/example for everything he says。 My favorite part of the book was definitely when it talked about dreams and aspirations - I'm the kind of person who works on a plan and any kind of deviation from one causes me stress, so I could relate to it a lot。 It also focused on the stress and anxiety part, which I don't fully agree with, but he did present his points/arguments well。 There were quotes at the beginning of every chapter/part which were very aptly chosen。 It's definitely something I'd recommend。 。。。more
