Summary

A deluxe bind-up edition of Naoki Urasawa’s award-winning epic of doomsday cults, giant robots and a group of friends trying to save the world from destruction!

Humanity, having faced extinction at the end of the 20th century, would not have entered the new millennium if it weren’t for them。 In 1969, during their youth, they created a symbol。 In 1997, as the coming disaster slowly starts to unfold, that symbol returns。 This is the story of a group of boys who try to save the world。

With killer bacteria attacks on San Francisco and London underway, the plot to destroy the world that Kenji imagined as a boy is playing out in real life through the actions of the Friend。 What will happen next? Only one person knows。 Only one person can save the world, and that person is Kenji。 Firing up his guitar and making up his mind to stand up, Kenji heads to the concert hall where the Friend awaits…

Perfect edition of a perfect manga。 Such an addicting read。

Volume 2 keeps the momentum and mysteries going! This volume starts out with Kenji trying to confront the friend。 The manga does an excellent job of always teasing a reveal, and sometimes giving you something to sate your appetite, and sometimes pulling the rug from under you。 I loved that the reveal of the friend shows he's still under a mask。 The second major section of this volume deals with Otcho - introducing his character, giving some background and depth, and having him meet up with Kenji Volume 2 keeps the momentum and mysteries going!

“I can tell you that nobody ever bowls the ball aiming for the gutter。 If you don’t start out aiming for a strike, you aren’t going to get anywhere。“。Is Naoki Urasawa a real person??? How in the heck did he come up with this??? And the plot and characters are so…full。I just need to make sure I keep up with the back and forth timelines but…wow。

The story gets more intriguing in volume 2。 Now that I have a better idea of where the plot is heading, I'm enjoying the heck out of this series。 A cult called the Friends is taking over the Japanese government and committing terror attacks on the world based on a book of prophecies written by 9-year-olds in 1969。 Kenji must figure out which shadowy figure from his childhood is behind it all。 Plus, new character Otcho is just brilliant。 The story gets more intriguing in volume 2。 Now that I have a better idea of where the plot is heading, I'm enjoying the heck out of this series。 A cult called the Friends is taking over the Japanese government and committing terror attacks on the world based on a book of prophecies written by 9-year-olds in 1969。 Kenji must figure out which shadowy figure from his childhood is behind it all。 Plus, new character Otcho is just brilliant。 。。。more

I read the first volume in a single day, but it was harder to remain engaged with this story。 I have given it the same star rating because I perceive that this was more to my level of busyness than to the writer's ability to reach me with the story。 The characters are believable and the illustrations and associated text are good at carrying the story across。 I got to the last page, and eagerly reached for the next volume, which is always a good sign that I would recommend a series to other reade I read the first volume in a single day, but it was harder to remain engaged with this story。 I have given it the same star rating because I perceive that this was more to my level of busyness than to the writer's ability to reach me with the story。 The characters are believable and the illustrations and associated text are good at carrying the story across。 I got to the last page, and eagerly reached for the next volume, which is always a good sign that I would recommend a series to other readers )i( 。。。more

It’s a fun mindless read for when I get home after a stressful day at work。 The story is consistent, the characters are interesting for a graphic novel and slowly the story builds to keep you engaged。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Après le fantastique 1er volume, je ne pensais pas que la série pouvait s’améliorer encore plus。 L’histoire d’Otcho est incroyable, Ami, qui s’avère être le père de Kanna, va vraiment a un autre niveau en construisant un robot géant。 3 ans passent et Kenji est devenu un réputé « terroriste » sabotant les activités du nouvel ordre politique d’Ami。 Cette série est juste incroyable, je ne m’en peux plus d’attendre le prochain volume。

So far 20th Century Boys doesn't speak to me on a personal level, but the story is told in such a way that I'm impressed with the handiwork of it。 Urasawa knows how to tell a story。 So far 20th Century Boys doesn't speak to me on a personal level, but the story is told in such a way that I'm impressed with the handiwork of it。 Urasawa knows how to tell a story。 。。。more
