Summary

Three women who seemingly have nothing in common find that they're involved with the same man in this smart new rom-com by Beth O'Leary, bestselling author of The Flatshare

Siobhan is a quick-tempered life coach with way too much on her plate。 Miranda is a tree surgeon used to being treated as just one of the guys on the job。 Jane is a soft-spoken volunteer for the local charity shop with zero sense of self-worth。

These three women are strangers who have only one thing in common: They've all been stood up on the same day, the very worst day to be stood up--Valentine's Day。 And, unbeknownst to them, they've all been stood up by the same man。

Once they've each forgiven him for standing them up, they let him back into their lives and are in serious danger of falling in love with a man who seems to have not just one or two but three women on the go。。。。

Is there more to him than meets the eye? And will they each untangle the truth before they all get their hearts broken?

While I didn't enjoy this novel quite as much as some of Beth O'Leary's previous novels, it was charming and sweet in the end。 The first half moved slowly - probably because I wasn't sure where it was going and how the characters would connect。 The latter half picked up and was more fun to read。 The connections between characters are clever and unexpected。 There is a lot of love and friendship and the dialogue rings true, even when the relationships don't work out。 I liked this book a lot more t While I didn't enjoy this novel quite as much as some of Beth O'Leary's previous novels, it was charming and sweet in the end。 The first half moved slowly - probably because I wasn't sure where it was going and how the characters would connect。 The latter half picked up and was more fun to read。 The connections between characters are clever and unexpected。 There is a lot of love and friendship and the dialogue rings true, even when the relationships don't work out。 I liked this book a lot more than I expected to when I started reading it。 Stick with it!Thank you to NetGalley for the advance copy of this book。 All opinions are my own。 。。。more

3。5。 This was a tough one to rate as it had a lot of originality, but I was also quite bored。 Will get back to you with my review。

This had a great twist I didn’t see coming and was so glad it did。 I hated myself for liking JC。 I thought he was so great, hated the 3 different women scenario。

The book could have so easily been set one year earlier and not even touched lockdown。 WHY do I need to read about people working from home and forming bubbles。 What did it actually add to the book? In truth, 85% of the book was a two-star。 The ending tied everything together beautifully so I bumped it up。 Not sure how I feel about any future books, this one was too much of a disappointment。 。。。more

4。25。 Beth O'Leary did it again! I have absolutely loved every one of her books, despite thinking on the basis of the synopsis that I'd hate them。 This has to be my favourite; I did not see the twist coming AT ALL, and thought the story was just so so clever。 And Beth O'Leary is just so good at creating believable characters。 Every character was different, and she did so well in differentiating between the voices of Siobhan, Jane and Miranda。 I really resonated with Jane in particular - the idea 4。25。 Beth O'Leary did it again! First and foremost, it IS best to get into this story blind。 I did find that hard, but I think the payoff was worth it–not like epic and utterly mind-blowing, but fresh and unique。 At the end I felt like this was mainly Joseph's story told from these women's perspectives。 The three of them are so different but interesting。 I kinda wish I had seen more tidbits of the women's lives independent from Joseph, or perhaps even more of Joseph's POV。 Would I read this again? probably not。 Would I recomme First and foremost, it IS best to get into this story blind。 I did find that hard, but I think the payoff was worth it–not like epic and utterly mind-blowing, but fresh and unique。 At the end I felt like this was mainly Joseph's story told from these women's perspectives。 The three of them are so different but interesting。 I kinda wish I had seen more tidbits of the women's lives independent from Joseph, or perhaps even more of Joseph's POV。 Would I read this again? probably not。 Would I recommend this? Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC。The first thing you must know about a Beth O'Leary novel is that you will often feel discomfort or even dislike before the payoff。 But the payoff is so worth it。 This was true for THE ROAD TRIP, and so I reminded myself to keep reading THE NO-SHOW even though I wasn't sure where O'Leary was taking me or that I wanted to get there。 Trust in O'Leary's skill to bring the story full circle。The second thing you must know about a Beth O'Leary novel Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC。The first thing you must know about a Beth O'Leary novel is that you will often feel discomfort or even dislike before the payoff。 But the payoff is so worth it。 This was true for THE ROAD TRIP, and so I reminded myself to keep reading THE NO-SHOW even though I wasn't sure where O'Leary was taking me or that I wanted to get there。 Trust in O'Leary's skill to bring the story full circle。The second thing you must know about a Beth O'Leary novel is that she covers heavy topics。 Mental health issues, abusive relationships, grief, trauma。 They're all there, and she doesn't shy away from them。Which leads me to the third thing you should know, or at least my third observation: I really like the covers of O'Leary's books, but I think they are quite misleading。 They make you think the book is going to be a typical rom-com with minimal angst, which is pretty far from the truth。THE NO-SHOW isn't my favorite O'Leary (that is still THE SWITCH), but it has definitely stuck with me since I finished reading it。 I think if you go into this book understanding the three points above, you will find it a well-written, poignant story about people learning to free themselves of the pasts that haunt them。 。。。more

The No-Show by Beth O'Leary is an emotional story about three women who were all stood up by Joseph Carter on Valentine's day。 I read the blurb for this book, and wasn’t sure it was for me, but, I hung in there and I absolutely loved this book。 I ran through all the emotions while reading The No-Show, and it’s one of my favorite books of 2022。 Joseph Carter ends up standing up three women on the very worst day to be stood up, Valentine's Day。 All three women eventually forgive him and give him a The No-Show by Beth O'Leary is an emotional story about three women who were all stood up by Joseph Carter on Valentine's day。 I read the blurb for this book, and wasn’t sure it was for me, but, I hung in there and I absolutely loved this book。 I ran through all the emotions while reading The No-Show, and it’s one of my favorite books of 2022。 Joseph Carter ends up standing up three women on the very worst day to be stood up, Valentine's Day。 All three women eventually forgive him and give him a second chance, and eventually let Joseph Carter back into their lives, with varying degrees of success。 Siobhan is a busy life coach who is also a workaholic。 She’s determined to grow her business and doesn’t have time for a personal life。 Miranda is a tree surgeon, who is viewed as just one of the guys among her all-male co-workers。 She loves climbing trees and can’t imagine a job at a desk。 Jane suffers from low self-esteem due to a past relationship and works at a local charity shop。 All three women have one thing in common。 They were stood up on Valentine's day by Joseph Carter。 I will say that at more than one point in the book, I was angry with Joseph, and couldn’t imagine why he was so terrible at relationships。 But, I hung in there and trusted the author, and the payoff at the end of the book was worth it。 Even when I was angry with Joseph, I still wanted him to be happy, and I was rooting for all three women all throughout the book。 I love an emotional book, and this was heartbreaking, heartwarming, and joyful all at the same time。 I recommend this book to anyone who loves an emotional book about relationships。 I received a complimentary copy of this book。 The opinions expressed in this review are completely my own。 。。。more

I normally enjoy this author’s books but this one was extremely disappointing。 It wasn’t a romcom。 It had a good premise…three women dating the same guy…but that wasn’t really the case。 Ugh。 I don’t have anything else to say。

Don’t know what to think。 It’s not really a romance? I think? Didn’t see the twist coming so that was good。 Twist came too late, not so good。 All the characters were nice, but none of them stood out。 This is a 3。5 stars for me I think。

Based on the blurb, I fully expected The No-Show to be about three women dating the same man, finding out about it, possibly ganging up and forming a bond to get the ultimate revenge。 Or maybe they all rip each other to shreds and duke it out until they decide to become the best of friends。 It's far and beyond my expectations。Did I rate this 5 stars? Yes, yes I did。 Did I struggle with reading the first half? Yes, yes I did。 Did I struggle with reading the first half? Also yes。 There are a lot of characters and POV switches that take a minute to get accustomed to。 If any future readers question the beginning, I can't say enough: push through, keep going! Here's the thing。 I've said it in previous reviews for books written by Beth O'Leary, but I'm pretty sure she's a women's fiction/contemporary romance genius。 She continually writes stories that I've not seen before。 There's no routine or retelling or reworking of someone else's work。 If this is incorrect, please direct me to where she gets these ideas because I need to read them right now。There are three POVs right out the gate: sophisticated and worldly Siobhan, timid and routine-driven Jane, and reliable and hard-working Miranda。 We meet them all at some point on Valentine's Day in which one Joseph Carter stands them up for a breakfast, lunch, and evening engagement party。I've gushed about Beth as an author mostly because I don't want to spoil anything and I know I'm hyping this up。 This is coming from a total fangirl。 I'd say I'm sorry, but I absolutely am not as I already want to re-read it。Thank you to Berkley and NetGalley for the advanced copy。 All thoughts in this review are my own。 。。。more

Three women, three Valentine's dates, one man who didn't show up。 Is Joseph Carter cheating? Or is there more to his story than meets the eye。。。I received an advance reader copy of this book。This is a well-crafted, moving contemporary love story about three women and one man all struggling to be true to themselves and their feelings。 A heads up: if you are turned off by stories about cheating, you should know first and foremost that there is more to this story than meets the eye (or shows up in Three women, three Valentine's dates, one man who didn't show up。 Is Joseph Carter cheating? I was really expecting to like this one, and it just fell completely flat。 Hot tip: It does not make a romance novel if you position the supposed love interest as a cheater。 Whether he is or not is another thing - but just the idea that he was put me off the whole thing。 So yeah。 It’s a big no from me。

The No-Show by Beth O’Leary alternated between three women’s stories - Siobhan, Miranda and Jane。 Each share a connection with one man - and they know him by variations of his name - Joseph Carter。 I don’t want to go too much into the plot of the book for fear of giving it away, but through the progression of the novel, let’s just say things aren’t what they seem。 And I ended up thinking very differently of Joseph at the end, from the vibes I was getting in the beginning。 This aspect of the nove The No-Show by Beth O’Leary alternated between three women’s stories - Siobhan, Miranda and Jane。 Each share a connection with one man - and they know him by variations of his name - Joseph Carter。 I don’t want to go too much into the plot of the book for fear of giving it away, but through the progression of the novel, let’s just say things aren’t what they seem。 And I ended up thinking very differently of Joseph at the end, from the vibes I was getting in the beginning。 This aspect of the novel and the way it unfolded was wonderful story crafting from O’Leary。 It takes some time to get to know these women, and for me it required a little patience, as it’s largely character based rather than plot-based (though there are some major plot points to take note of as being significant)。 I’ll be really interested to see others views of this one。 I quite liked it once I got into it。 Thanks to Hachette Australia for sending me a copy of this book to read and review。 My thoughts are genuine and my own。 。。。more
