Summary

One summer。 Two rivals。 A plot twist they didn’t see coming…

Nora Stephens’ life is books—she’s read them all—and she is not that type of heroine。 Not the plucky one, not the laidback dream girl, and especially not the sweetheart。 In fact, the only people Nora is a heroine for are her clients, for whom she lands enormous deals as a cutthroat literary agent, and her beloved little sister Libby。

Which is why she agrees to go to Sunshine Falls, North Carolina for the month of August when Libby begs her for a sisters’ trip away—with visions of a small town transformation for Nora, who she’s convinced needs to become the heroine in her own story。 But instead of picnics in meadows, or run-ins with a handsome country doctor or bulging-forearmed bartender, Nora keeps bumping into Charlie Lastra, a bookish brooding editor from back in the city。 It would be a meet-cute if not for the fact that they’ve met many times and it’s never been cute。

If Nora knows she’s not an ideal heroine, Charlie knows he’s nobody’s hero, but as they are thrown together again and again—in a series of coincidences no editor worth their salt would allow—what they discover might just unravel the carefully crafted stories they’ve written about themselves。

What a book! It made me laugh it and it made me cry。 (Abeit not as many tears as Beach Read。) I loved the well rounded characters which developed throughout the book and that were believable。 The dialogue was well writen and witty and really felt like they were really people。 The only thing with this book is that I couldn't quite believe that Charlie and Nora were ever nemesis。 They seemed to fall quite easily into friendship and then something more。 Overall another wonderful book which may make you cry but you will be left with a heart warming ending。 I can't wait to see what Emily Henry writes next。 Thanks to Netgalley and Penguin books for this eARC in exchange for an honest review。 。。。more

A quick note- Asheville, NC is thus far my favorite place I’ve ever been in the United States。 There is a special magic in those mountains。 I was thrilled to find out this book was mostly based there。 ”Maybe love shouldn't be built on a foundation of compromises, but maybe it can't exist without them either。 Not the kind that forces two people into shapes they don't fit in, but the kind that loosens their grips, always leaves room to grow。 Compromises that say, there will be a you-shaped space i A quick note- Asheville, NC is thus far my favorite place I’ve ever been in the United States。 There is a special magic in those mountains。 I was thrilled to find out this book was mostly based there。 ”Maybe love shouldn't be built on a foundation of compromises, but maybe it can't exist without them either。 Not the kind that forces two people into shapes they don't fit in, but the kind that loosens their grips, always leaves room to grow。 Compromises that say, there will be a you-shaped space in my heart, and if your shape changes, I will adapt。 No matter where we go, our love will stretch out to hold us, and that makes me feel like。 Like everything will be okay。”How was this so good? How was this SO GOOD?! Emily Henry stepped it up with the quippy, hilarious banter。 I was engrossed from the prologue and there was simply no putting this down。 I loved everything about this story from start to finish! The writing is marvelous。 At so many points— absolutely hilarious。 Nora and Charles were everything。 EVERYTHING! I don’t care that I called the ending。 I knew it was coming, but oh my god, my HEART when it happened。 I cried for at least 10 minutes。 I adored Nora and Libby’s relationship。 It’s so special。 It was really endearing。 The “older sister becomes the mother” scenario broke me。 I related immensely to Nora and her internal struggles。 I don’t often cry reading books, but this one got me。 Emily snatched my heart - stomped on it- but at least she gave it back by the end。I really enjoyed seeing New York from Nora’s perspective and I’m by no means a “city person”。 I’m the person seaming of the Asheville mountains, but this story gave me a perspective I can appreciate。 Thank you to Berkley, the author, and Edeilweiss for my e-ARC in exchange for my honest review。 Opinions are my own。 。。。more

Emily Henry just gets better and better! I loved that this one took a fresh approach to a love story (if you're the Parker Posey and not the Meg Ryan in the love story, what does that look like for you?)。 I also loved how aware of tropes this one was and it is so funny without being like over-the-top unbelievable funny。 It's like, surprising funny which is the best written kind, imho。 And I haven't even talked about the great sister storyline in this one of a sister who has kids and one who does Emily Henry just gets better and better! I adore Emily Henry's romances。 I have given them all 5 stars and honestly am just obsessed with them。 I loved the hate to love aspect in this book as well as the usual trope of girl goes to small town and fall in love and how she spins it。5/5 of course。 I adore Emily Henry's romances。 I have given them all 5 stars and honestly am just obsessed with them。 I loved the hate to love aspect in this book as well as the usual trope of girl goes to small town and fall in love and how she spins it。5/5 of course。 。。。more

I couldn’t get enough! But really, the banter was so fucking good。 I can’t remember I’ve laughed out loud so hard。 I LOVED the first half of this book。 Like 5-stars。 But I only liked the second half。 While this is a romance, the drama/conflict is split between the romance and the MC Nora’s personal/family issues。 The romance part made me feel so much and I adored every second。 The sister/family drama was a tad irritating。 Mostly because they fall under the miscommunication trope。 Nora is a fixer and has been taking care of her younger sister, Libby, since the death of their mother。 But it’s been 10 years, Libby is married and has 2 kids (plus one on the way), yet Nora can’t shake off her parental role。 Nora and Libby have an amazing relationship and love each other deeply but Nora’s constant fix it mentality instead of just being by a sister is finally creating barriers between the two。 There’s miscommunication because they’ve been keeping secrets, which strains the relationship。 And at the end of the day, the issues they have could have been resolved if they said how they were feeling much sooner。 Or if they went to therapy。 By the end of the story Nora does say she’s going to therapy and I’m like “it’s about damn time”, but truly it slightly pains me to read about characters with issues that could be easily resolved in therapy。 But this tension is intentional and works with the story and character growth, and my dislike is definitely a personal thing versus it being something that’s actually wrong with the story。 Bottom line, I adored the story and know so many others will fall in love with it as well! Again, the banter is Henry’s best yet and the characters are so lovable。 I wish I could be them or be friends with them! 💕 。。。more

5 stars。 Holy sunshine falls! To say Emily Henry can write is an understatement。 This is my first book by her and I was blown away。 This book ticked every box- funny, emotional, family orientated, quirky characters and settings and romance。 Nora has priorities in life; Her work and her family and she’ll do anything for them。 When she finds herself in a small town far from her beloved NYC and face to face with one of her least favourite colleagues, she discovers a lot about her life and herself, 5 stars。 Holy sunshine falls! *ARC provided via NetGalleyLet's just get right to it: I loved this book a whole lot。 Emily Henry really know how to deliver on beautiful writing, emotional depth, realistic characters, and bright/witty dialogue。 Her books always feel so immersive and this one is no different。 Nora Stephens is the high-maintenance city girlfriend in every guy-goes-to-a-small-town-and-falls-in-love romance book。 She loves her Peloton and her impractical shoes and fancy skincare, and she loves her sister Libby and *ARC provided via NetGalleyLet's just get right to it: I loved this book a whole lot。 Emily Henry really know how to deliver on beautiful writing, emotional depth, realistic characters, and bright/witty dialogue。 Her books always feel so immersive and this one is no different。 Nora Stephens is the high-maintenance city girlfriend in every guy-goes-to-a-small-town-and-falls-in-love romance book。 She loves her Peloton and her impractical shoes and fancy skincare, and she loves her sister Libby and her agenting job even more。 So when her sister drags her to a small North Carolina town, Sunshine Falls, that's the setting of one of her client's books, she's not feeling the need for her own small town romance。 And the best part? That's not what this book is! Oh, there's definitely love, but it's with sharp-eyed editor, Charlie Lastra, who's visiting home from NYC to help his parents out。 Both of them are city-people who don't quite fit into small town life and they can't help but be drawn together again and again。This book feels like magic。 It's packed full of emotional weight as Nora deals with her floundering relationship with her sister, faces the walls she's put up when it comes to dating, and lets herself unwind in Charlie's constant and supportive presence。 She's a heroine I haven't read much of and this book felt like a breath of fresh air。And Charlie, don't get me started on Charlie。 I think he might be my favorite of Emily's heroes, and Gus has held that spot pretty firmly for awhile。 It's just so clear how totally gone for Nora he is pretty immediately which is a trope I cannot resist。 He's smart and sexy and believes the best in her。 He loves her sharp edges and her dedication to her work。 They're like a perfect matching pair and reading their love story was a joy。Anyways, if it's not clear, I highly recommend this book! My only critique really is the cover。 I don't think that this kind of color-blocked illustrated cover design does the book justice, but I'm also not the biggest fan of illustrated covers in general。 。。。more
