Summary

The Sunday Times bestseller

’Are you ready, Max? If anyone’s going to help me do this, it’s you。’

The heart-warming tale of a life-saving friendship。

In 2006, a traumatic car accident changed Kerry Irving’s life forever。

Suffering from severe neck and back injuries, Kerry was unemployed and housebound, struggling with depression and even thoughts of suicide。 He went from cycling over 600 miles a month to becoming a prisoner in his own home。

With hope all but lost, Kerry’s wife encouraged him to go on a short walk to the local shop。 In the face of unbearable pain and overwhelming panic, he persevered and along the way, met an adorable yard dog named Max。 As the Spaniel peered up through the railings, Kerry found comfort and encouragement in his soulful brown eyes。 This chance encounter marked a turning point in both their lives。

In Max, Kerry found comfort and motivation and in Kerry, Max found someone to care for him。 This is their remarkable, inspiring story。

Beautiful storyWhat wonderful story a man who needed faith and a dog who helped him find it。 Dogs serve many purposes。 Who would have thought ‘lifesaver’ would be one。

This book is the true story of Max, a Springer Spaniel, and how he changed the life of his owner。 It is sad, uplifting and inspiring and Max continues to be a devoted companion and friend to Kerry。

If you love springer spaniels (and who, once you know them, could not), this is the book for you。Kerry Irving shares his obsession with his dogs in particular, and SS's in general。He had a difficult childhood, and a car accident leaving him housebound and unemployed were further severe challenges。 But the chance encounter with one, and then another two SS's made all the difference。 Their joy and biddability and constant focused dedication to pleasing their owners (especially if food is offered), If you love springer spaniels (and who, once you know them, could not), this is the book for you。Kerry Irving shares his obsession with his dogs in particular, and SS's in general。He had a difficult childhood, and a car accident leaving him housebound and unemployed were further severe challenges。 But the chance encounter with one, and then another two SS's made all the difference。 Their joy and biddability and constant focused dedication to pleasing their owners (especially if food is offered), made all the difference to the life of Kerry Irving。 。。。more

This is a wonderful book to read。 If you love dogs this will especially touch your heart。 it is a true story of the love that a dog can generate in a human。 Man's best friend indeed and in this case a perfect match for a man who desperately needed something to make his life worthwhile。 Deep in depression and misery from an accident, Max came along and gave this man a friendship that saved his life。 I suspect in many ways it also gave Max what he needed。 Everything is uplifting about this book。 This is a wonderful book to read。 If you love dogs this will especially touch your heart。 it is a true story of the love that a dog can generate in a human。 Man's best friend indeed and in this case a perfect match for a man who desperately needed something to make his life worthwhile。 Deep in depression and misery from an accident, Max came along and gave this man a friendship that saved his life。 I suspect in many ways it also gave Max what he needed。 Everything is uplifting about this book。 。。。more

I have just read this book in one sitting 。 What a lovely inspirational and heart-warming story of life with Max 。 Kerry Irving has been so open about his time with depression due to chronic pain ( and this I understand totally)。 To see the difference max made in his life and also other peoples just by a Facebook presence in the beginning has been joyous and lovely to read about 。

It is amazing what a difference a dog can make to a person’s life, I enjoyed reading Kerry’s story。

I loved this uplifting tale of how Max & Kerry helped each other to live more fulfilling lives。 Kerry suffers a horrible accident which debilitates him with pain and depression but in a way that is not obvious enough to people to enable him to get the help he deserves。 But with the help of Max, Kerry starts to see the joy in living again & helps other people along the way。 Heartwarming!

InspirationalWhat a lovely book this is。 Especially as Max helped his owner recover from traumatic times。 I wonder what would have happened if he had not been encouraged by his wife to start going outside again when he had almost become a recluse。 The book is so life affirming。 We live in Lancashire and we try to go to the lake district at least one day a year。 Keswick is one of my favourite places。 I will definitely be looking out for spaniels whilst there。 Congratulations for facing your demon InspirationalWhat a lovely book this is。 Especially as Max helped his owner recover from traumatic times。 I wonder what would have happened if he had not been encouraged by his wife to start going outside again when he had almost become a recluse。 The book is so life affirming。 We live in Lancashire and we try to go to the lake district at least one day a year。 Keswick is one of my favourite places。 I will definitely be looking out for spaniels whilst there。 Congratulations for facing your demons Kerry。 。。。more

This is such an uplifting and moving book。 Not a dog owner myself but have loads of doggie owning friends。 Springers are just the nicest breed。 They're always enthusiastic and friendly it is not hard to see how Zak then Max, Paddy and Harry could fail to keep anyone from the depths of despair。 I've been following Max Out in the Lake District for a few months as I suffer with anxiety and depression myself。 It's just a joy to see these beautiful pups having a whale of a time。 Thankyou Kerry for in This is such an uplifting and moving book。 Not a dog owner myself but have loads of doggie owning friends。 Springers are just the nicest breed。 They're always enthusiastic and friendly it is not hard to see how Zak then Max, Paddy and Harry could fail to keep anyone from the depths of despair。 I've been following Max Out in the Lake District for a few months as I suffer with anxiety and depression myself。 It's just a joy to see these beautiful pups having a whale of a time。 Thankyou Kerry for introducing us to your life。 I loved your book。 。。。more

A wonderful heartwarming story of a genuinely decent man finding happiness and reason in life through the best of all God’s creatures - a dog! For me, there are incredible similarities in finding my saviour at a very low point in my life in a Cocker Spaniel I named Wilson。 We are stuck together like glue and also have found peace together wandering the Lake District Wainwright fells。 Because of this I can relate to much of Kerry’s life story and hearing the story of Max’s life is just brilliant。 A wonderful heartwarming story of a genuinely decent man finding happiness and reason in life through the best of all God’s creatures - a dog! The bond and love between a man/woman and his/her dog is one of the most beautiful relationships we can have the privilege of experiencing in this life。

Following Max and his two 4-legged buddies on Facebook ("Max out in the Lake District") and having an English Springer Spaniel I HAD to read this book。 NOTE: I don't usually read animal stories because they always die or are hurt。 This was read because I know Max is very much alive。 Kerry, Max's human, tells the story of his pre-Max life in the first half of the book。 It's important to read to understand what happens when he encounters Max as Kerry is suffering from depression after having been Following Max and his two 4-legged buddies on Facebook ("Max out in the Lake District") and having an English Springer Spaniel I HAD to read this book。 NOTE: I don't usually read animal stories because they always die or are hurt。 This was read because I know Max is very much alive。 Kerry, Max's human, tells the story of his pre-Max life in the first half of the book。 It's important to read to understand what happens when he encounters Max as Kerry is suffering from depression after having been rear-ended while driving。 The injuries were internal and still cause him some pain but Max brought Kerry out of his depression and taught him how to cope with the pain。 Max is a unique dog - one of those calm, intuitive types that quickly reads his human。 And Max becomes Kerry's daily companion (though Angie, Kerry's wife, figures in the story and is supportive of Kerry and Max) as Kerry begins a new career as a locksmith。 It's also a story of a lovely area of Great Britain- the Lake District - and how that figures in Kerry's recovery and Max's exercise and appearance on Facebook。 it's a book that can bring you to tears and make you laugh on the next page。 Uplifting and a joy to read。 A quick read and I hated when it ended。 But I can watch Max, Paddy, and Harry (his fellow ESS buddies) every time I need a lift and a smile。 By the way, Max received an award from the Crown for his work in gaining 90,000 English Pounds (money) for the PDSA。 Unfortunately, only 5 stars are available for rating this book as I'd rate it 11 or more stars! 。。。more
