Summary

Everyone's favorite patchwork elephant, Elmer, is back in this brand-new 25th anniversary board book edition of David McKee's classic tale, Elmer。 Elmer the elephant is bright-colored patchwork all over。 No wonder the other elephants laugh at him! If he were ordinary elephant color, the others might stop laughing。 That would make Elmer feel better, wouldn't it? The surprising conclusion of this comical fable is a celebration of individuality and the power of laughter。

I love this book, I love this author。 This is one of those books I grew up with and so it holds a place in my heart, but re-reading it, the story is lovely and funny and simple。 It is enjoyable and I think even today kids would enjoy it。

This would be a great book to read aloud in June!!!

Me and my sister used to love this book as kids, so it was so nice to revisit this for my Children’s Literature module that I’m currently doing at uni

This was such a cute book for the classroom! The kids really enjoyed it and we even made actual patchwork elephants to go along with the story!!! Wonderful :)

Elmer, diferit prin culoare, dar totuși un elefant。 Povestea lui Elmer reprezintă un prilej potrivit de discuție pe teme precum discriminarea, ce ne face diferiți, ce ne face fericiți

A lovely picture books that is funny and interesting for children。 It is about an elephant that differs from others since it has a colourful skin。 It teaches the children that being different is a good thing。 The book can be related to PSHE, English, art and design。

Elmer is a great book to use to teach colors, because the elephant of the same name is a patchwork of colors。 It is also a good tool to teach about everybody's differences and that we should embrace them。 Elmer is a great book to use to teach colors, because the elephant of the same name is a patchwork of colors。 It is also a good tool to teach about everybody's differences and that we should embrace them。 。。。more

THIS WAS LITERALLY REVOLUTIONARY。 every child should experience reading Elmer。 unforgettable moments, wonderful memories。 artful, valid and inclusive。 not only splendid illustrations one thinks about ever since, but also a didactic and extraordinary plot。 do your little one a pleasure and read to him/her the Elmer book。

Good story and nice illustrations but the writing is a bit clunky to read, especially upside down to a baby 😂

A cute story with colorful illustrations about a patchwork elephant and the joy he brings to others around him。 Also about feeling like one doesn't fit in, and how our differences are our strengths! This is also about *celebrating* differences, which is great。 A cute story with colorful illustrations about a patchwork elephant and the joy he brings to others around him。 Also about feeling like one doesn't fit in, and how our differences are our strengths! oddio ma si può piangere per un libro per bambini? non riuscirò mai a capire cosa mi porta ad essere emotiva con libri e fumetti e cosa mi porta ad essere quasi totalmente apatica con la gente intorno a me。 vorrei essere il giusto。in ogni caso, alla fine questo libro aveva una bella metafora, ovviamente a libera interpretazione。 io penso di aver colto qualcosa, in un certo senso。 l'aspetto non conta, alla fin fine, conta la personalità。 c'è questo elefante diverso da tutti e pensa che sia propri oddio ma si può piangere per un libro per bambini? non riuscirò mai a capire cosa mi porta ad essere emotiva con libri e fumetti e cosa mi porta ad essere quasi totalmente apatica con la gente intorno a me。 vorrei essere il giusto。in ogni caso, alla fine questo libro aveva una bella metafora, ovviamente a libera interpretazione。 io penso di aver colto qualcosa, in un certo senso。 l'aspetto non conta, alla fin fine, conta la personalità。 c'è questo elefante diverso da tutti e pensa che sia proprio questo a piacere agli altri。。 e invece no! perché, anche quando diventa dello stesso colore degli altri elefanti, basta una risata a far capire a tutti che lui era lì tra loro。 io stessa potrei addirittura cambiare i miei connotati, ma penso che le persone che mi vogliono bene e che mi conoscono capirebbero chi sono dal mio modo di essere。 potrei anche diventare un uomo, non cambierebbe nulla。 in un certo senso, non importa chi tu sia fuori, a livello di aspetto。 l'importante è come sei dentro。 io ho colto più o meno così la morale non definita del libro, ma potrei dire mille altre cose! come, ad esempio, il fatto che, finché elmer non ha riso, nessuno lo ha riconosciuto。 un po' come se stesse recitando。 quando ha aperto bocca, però, la sua personalità è uscita fuori, ed era più colorata di lui! non puoi nascondere la tua personalità ed essere qualcuno che non sei: alla fine, per quanto ti sforzi, anche una minima parte di te verrà fuori e mostrerà chi sei davvero! in tutto ciò, è stato un bel libricino。 e continuo a dire che i libri per bambini siano sottovalutati quando, invece, sono colmi di metafore meravigliose che talvolta neanche noi "adulti" riusciamo a cogliere。 。。。more

Elmer is a bright, colourful book about a patchwork elephant。 He is always jolly and optimistic, but when Elmer changes his appearance to look like everybody else he is no longer different。 This makes Elmer feel sad that he cannot be accepted, thus he understands how it feels to be treated like an outsider。 As soon as Elmer is wet from the rain, Elmer’s patchwork colours being to appear, and his true colours are revealed。This story can be used effectively during circle time where it can be read Elmer is a bright, colourful book about a patchwork elephant。 He is always jolly and optimistic, but when Elmer changes his appearance to look like everybody else he is no longer different。 This makes Elmer feel sad that he cannot be accepted, thus he understands how it feels to be treated like an outsider。 As soon as Elmer is wet from the rain, Elmer’s patchwork colours being to appear, and his true colours are revealed。This story can be used effectively during circle time where it can be read amongst children in KS1。 The differences make people interesting。 Elmer can also be used for art based activities, where children can draw and write about their differences possibly for EYFS/KS1。 。。。more

Though I’d never read this book before, I recognised the cover art instantly… a children’s classic, or at least this is what I had been led to believe。It was a shame then when I finished reading it to Noah and there was nothing for him to get excited about。 Ultimately, the story is damp squib and McKee a charlatan。Very disappointed; it did little to justify its apparent cult status。

A colorful patchwork elephant named Elmer wants to be gray like the rest of his herd。 But when he finds a way to make that happen, he discovers that it’s not so bad being his colorful self after all。 Sweet book about accepting/embracing your differences。 *library book。 Read at 2yo

A classic that stands the test of time。 Very visually appealing, with a good message about individuality being about our personalities, not just our appearance and that difference should be celebrated。
