In anticipation of the coming Marvel's Moon Knight TV Series, I decided to check out the Greatest Hits featuring the Moon Knight。 Started with Bendis who is known for reinventing and reinvigorating subpar characters into something memorable。 This one delivers on that promise。Earlier it was said that Moon Knight is a schizophrenic's Batman。 Bendis' run brought to life by ever spectacular Alex Maleev takes that remark and turns it into a remarkable gritty crime story that relishes on those quirks In anticipation of the coming Marvel's Moon Knight TV Series, I decided to check out the Greatest Hits featuring the Moon Knight。 Started with Bendis who is known for reinventing and reinvigorating subpar characters into something memorable。 This one delivers on that promise。Earlier it was said that Moon Knight is a schizophrenic's Batman。 Bendis' run brought to life by ever spectacular Alex Maleev takes that remark and turns it into a remarkable gritty crime story that relishes on those quirks and uses it to differentiate Moon Knight sufficiently from the Dark Knight。 All in all, it is a fun read。I just wish that Moon Knight's mental condition had a more substantial role in the plot than just being reduced to a character's quirk。Hoping that in next stories, it will be explored more。 。。。more

Oh, wow, a lead-in to the "Age of Ulton" event。 How。。。。unremarkable。 Other than that, was all right。 Bendis really loves playing up how wacky Moon Knight's insanity is, instead of anything remotely close to seriousness or genuine pathos。 Still--all right。 Oh, wow, a lead-in to the "Age of Ulton" event。 How。。。。unremarkable。 Other than that, was all right。 Bendis really loves playing up how wacky Moon Knight's insanity is, instead of anything remotely close to seriousness or genuine pathos。 Still--all right。 。。。more

This ultimately just fell flat。 For how excited some people were over Moon Knight, I was simply not impressed。 We seemed to go from one random encounter to another just for things to progress at a glacier's pace。 These are all tertiary characters at best, with only brief cameos by anyone whose name would even matter in this universe。90% of the problem with this universe is the same problem people within this book seem to have, everything takes place in New York。 The only city that matters in the This ultimately just fell flat。 For how excited some people were over Moon Knight, I was simply not impressed。 We seemed to go from one random encounter to another just for things to progress at a glacier's pace。 These are all tertiary characters at best, with only brief cameos by anyone whose name would even matter in this universe。90% of the problem with this universe is the same problem people within this book seem to have, everything takes place in New York。 The only city that matters in the world is New York。 There have to be more costumed heroes in the area than regular citizens。Moon Knight is boring。 His level of crazy is seeing people who aren't there 。 。 。 it hardly affects him and only seems to happen when it is convenient for it to happen。 (view spoiler)[Even Echo's death at the end seems pointless and uninteresting。 Loss is generally always a good thing for characters and stories。 The stories need to matter in such a way that loss is important, and there should be enough stakes that it is realistic to lose someone, but her entire existence is unnecessary from the beginning。 She exists only to die for Moon Knight。 (hide spoiler)]Moon Knight's motivations are nonsensical, his bad guy's motivations are nonsensical, everything about this is 。 。 。 boring。Moon Knight dresses up as other people, and then proceeds to get his butt kicked。 He gets beaten up by strippers, beaten up by a man tied to a chair, gets beaten up by his girlfriend; he then goes toe-to-toe with a "world-class" villain who somehow battled the Avengers to a standstill?Whatever。 This story was dumb。 。。。more

Pretty pictures, so-so story, crazy hero。 This is not a masterpiece。 Comics were better 40 years ago。 I read this free, Library book, so no harm no foul。 But Anyone paying $30 for this is crazy。 YMMV。

Hot off the heels of reading Huston’s and Hurwitz’s takes, Bendis’ Marc Spector is easily the most charismatic of the bunch。 He’s still tormented by his mind, but he has a personality and is doing a decent job of masquerading as a “normal” person。 He’s moved out to Hollywood and runs a show about his life, and when he’s not doing that, he’s talking to Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Captain America…in his head。 This was a different approach to Moon Knight, and one I appreciated for the most part。 Ben Hot off the heels of reading Huston’s and Hurwitz’s takes, Bendis’ Marc Spector is easily the most charismatic of the bunch。 He’s still tormented by his mind, but he has a personality and is doing a decent job of masquerading as a “normal” person。 He’s moved out to Hollywood and runs a show about his life, and when he’s not doing that, he’s talking to Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Captain America…in his head。 This was a different approach to Moon Knight, and one I appreciated for the most part。 Bendis’ -isms can grate or be charming and entertaining, and sometimes it’s a mix, as is the case here。 For the most part it flows and adds character to all involved (like Agent Lime or Marc), but sometimes it can feel like filler。 The story meanders a bit in the beginning, but in the second half it tightens up and feels like a fast-paced test of Marc’s mettle as he intentionally bites off more than he can chew (Count Nefaria), hoping that Spidey, Cap, and Wolvie can help him out as they do a id, ego, superego dance in his brain。It’s a very cool idea, and aided by Maleev’s art, it ends up being an entertaining, action-packed, and impressive outing for our disturbed hero。 。。。more

An interesting take on the character by writer Brian Michael Bendis, twisty and unpredictable per the necessities regarding the character。 Paced unevenly, occasionally drifting into disengaging narrative segments, it has its moments but often dabbles in disoriented directions, almost unsure of the story's premise or goal。Yours truly,Lashaan | Blogger and Book ReviewerOfficial blog: https://bookidote。com/ An interesting take on the character by writer Brian Michael Bendis, twisty and unpredictable per the necessities regarding the character。 Paced unevenly, occasionally drifting into disengaging narrative segments, it has its moments but often dabbles in disoriented directions, almost unsure of the story's premise or goal。Yours truly,Lashaan | Blogger and Book ReviewerOfficial blog: https://bookidote。com/ 。。。more

Before reading this I knew nothing of Moon Knight other than he was based in L。A。 The dynamic of having other heros in his head was interesting and funny at parts。 The romance seems ham fisted in the story and the main villain is sort of lackluster but I enjoyed it。

I never heard of Moon Knight before, but what a lot of fun this was。 Moon Knight, a schizophrenic who sees has imaginary conversations with Captain America, Spider-Man, and Wolverine, is a great character, and so is his deaf girlfriend Echo。 The dialogue is spot-on, filled with wit and humor。 The art is also great。 Just excellent overall。

I really liked the premise Bendis sets up here。 Moon Knight is out in L。A。 having turned his life into a TV show。 He finds out there's someone trying to set themselves up as the Kingpin of Los Angeles and It's someone way out of Moon Knight's league。 I also thought it was interesting how Bendis expanded Moon Knight's mental illness, having it take on these new aspects。 I do think the second half fails somewhat as Moon Knight really just fumbles through a win。 One that is tragic but (view spoiler I really liked the premise Bendis sets up here。 Moon Knight is out in L。A。 having turned his life into a TV show。 He finds out there's someone trying to set themselves up as the Kingpin of Los Angeles and It's someone way out of Moon Knight's league。 I also thought it was interesting how Bendis expanded Moon Knight's mental illness, having it take on these new aspects。 I do think the second half fails somewhat as Moon Knight really just fumbles through a win。 One that is tragic but (view spoiler)[ really is just the frigging of a great character Bendis created (hide spoiler)]。 。。。more

This is a story only Bendis could tell。 Spector's mental issues, as portrayed by a greek chorus of superheroes, is a tenuous construct to build a plot on, but Bendis makes it work, as Spector steamrolls into Los Angeles' underworld to figure out who the mastermind behind it is, and prevent a dangerous artifact from falling into their hands。The first of the two collected volumes is definitely the stronger, as it sets up Marc and his uneasy allies as features more investigation in balance with a c This is a story only Bendis could tell。 Spector's mental issues, as portrayed by a greek chorus of superheroes, is a tenuous construct to build a plot on, but Bendis makes it work, as Spector steamrolls into Los Angeles' underworld to figure out who the mastermind behind it is, and prevent a dangerous artifact from falling into their hands。The first of the two collected volumes is definitely the stronger, as it sets up Marc and his uneasy allies as features more investigation in balance with a couple of action packed sequences。 In the second half, as the true villain is on display, doesn't live up to the quality of the first half, and suffers from a plot point that is all too often used in super hero comics, and is responsible for the loss of one star from my rating。 The art is well done throughout - Maleev's style serves the quiet moments, the "interior" dialogues, and the action equally well, and special praise goes to the color artists Matthew Wilson and Matt Hollingsworth, who both do some very good work with limited palettes。The take on mental illness in a super hero is a fraught topic, but Bendis does make it work here, mainly by just accepting it as part of the character and not interrogating the deeper issues it would entail。 that makes the book a bit more。。。 I hate to say light-hearted, but considering the death and grime of the world it inhabits, it does seem pretty shallow。 In this case, though, that works。 For the most part。 。。。more

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This is the least fun I've ever had reading Moon Knight。 It was dull, and half the dialogue was just everyone agreeing he was crazy。 The page layout was unengaging, and the panels were all very darkly shaded。 There were a few nice touches, but all in all。。。 boring。 And that's not even considering the plot that doesn't really get a conclusion here: the villain's motivation is left a giant question mark despite everyone in the book asking about it。 This is the least fun I've ever had reading Moon Knight。 It was dull, and half the dialogue was just everyone agreeing he was crazy。 The page layout was unengaging, and the panels were all very darkly shaded。 There were a few nice touches, but all in all。。。 boring。 And that's not even considering the plot that doesn't really get a conclusion here: the villain's motivation is left a giant question mark despite everyone in the book asking about it。 。。。more

This is okay, but it feels like generic Bendis kinda phoning it in。 I’m not sure if this is the same Moon Knight as earlier incarnations, because with multiple personalities who can tell?
