Summary

"Once there was a tree。。。and she loved a little boy。"

So begins a story of unforgettable perception, beautifully written and illustrated by the gifted and versatile Shel Silverstein。

Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk。。。and the tree was happy。 But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave。

This is a tender story, touched with sadness, aglow with consolation。 Shel Silverstein has created a moving parable for readers of all ages that offers an affecting interpretation of the gift of giving and a serene acceptance of another's capacity to love in return。

This book is a good warning against sharing too much of yourself, being a doormat, and letting more capitalist mindsets ruin your overall health。And yes, it's a children's book。 This book is a good warning against sharing too much of yourself, being a doormat, and letting more capitalist mindsets ruin your overall health。And yes, it's a children's book。 。。。more

Probably the saddest children's book you'll ever read, but it's so good and we all can learn from it。 Not just kids。 Probably the saddest children's book you'll ever read, but it's so good and we all can learn from it。 Not just kids。 。。。more

Only bothered to get this book being sold on the high ratings, countless appearances in top 10 books lists and lots of reviews stating how deep of a meaning it provides。By in large I get what this book was trying to achieve but I think it gives more of a sentimental value for those who read it as a child Vs someone like me picking it up for the first time。The take home message is valid and one I do agree with, however it's not really delivered in a meaningful way。 The little prince covers this a Only bothered to get this book being sold on the high ratings, countless appearances in top 10 books lists and lots of reviews stating how deep of a meaning it provides。By in large I get what this book was trying to achieve but I think it gives more of a sentimental value for those who read it as a child Vs someone like me picking it up for the first time。The take home message is valid and one I do agree with, however it's not really delivered in a meaningful way。 The little prince covers this along with many other lessons in a much more engaging fashion。 。。。more

When i read this as a child i did not get the overall message but now reading it as a adult i now know the message that it is supposed to tell。 This tale tells of a story as a boy grows up the boy keeps asking the tree for things and the tree does not complain。 The tree does not receive any thing with all the things he has given。 I think this is a metaphor that people use people for things and don't get anything in return。 The boy does not change in the book but the tree does to demand he gets w When i read this as a child i did not get the overall message but now reading it as a adult i now know the message that it is supposed to tell。 This tale tells of a story as a boy grows up the boy keeps asking the tree for things and the tree does not complain。 The tree does not receive any thing with all the things he has given。 I think this is a metaphor that people use people for things and don't get anything in return。 The boy does not change in the book but the tree does to demand he gets what he needs in return。 The strength of the simple words but amazing message at the end。The illustrations with each stage of life creates a image in the mind。 。。。more

🧐 appears to be a story about an abusive relationship disguised as a childrens story

After reading this I feel strangely sad。。 that first line of this book, how the tree loved him really pulls at my heart。。 and he loves the tree but he forgets。。 nature is us and we are nature。。 we must be careful with her, with how we treat her, with how we love her because she loves us abundantly, unconditionally and she will always give herself away to us。。 we must always treat her with love and reverence。 (5 love for trees stars)。

Para mim, uma verdadeira história de amor。 Se olharmos para este livro com olhos de amor podemos descobrir o MELHOR do que somos capazes, mas se tivermos olhar cético também descobrimos o PIOR de nós。

The Giving Tree is a Poetry book that is best suited for younger grades such as kindergarten to about second grade。 This book would be best as a whole class read aloud。 Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk。。。and the tree was happy。 But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave。A possible activity that could go along with this book would be having the students each share on The Giving Tree is a Poetry book that is best suited for younger grades such as kindergarten to about second grade。 This book would be best as a whole class read aloud。 Every day the boy would come to the tree to eat her apples, swing from her branches, or slide down her trunk。。。and the tree was happy。 But as the boy grew older he began to want more from the tree, and the tree gave and gave and gave。A possible activity that could go along with this book would be having the students each share one thing that they appreciate in life that could be taken for granted。 This activity makes the younger students think about complex topics and allows the teacher to help students understand the meaning of words and the different parts of a book, etc。 This book is best suited for grade kindergarten to second grade because this book is a picture book and not a chapter book meaning that students in younger grade levels would have a more enjoyable time reading the book and it would hold their interest longer。 。。。more

I remember reading this book when I was a kid but it’s only now that I felt incredulous sadness。 I almost cried reading this book just now。 Sometimes, it’s really the simple things and simple reads like this that will make you realize how foolish adults can be at times and it hurts to realize that sometimes。。you are that foolish adult。
