The acclaimed, Eisner award-winning team of writer Jeph Loeb and artist Tim Sale return to Gotham City, home of Catwoman, for a tale that takes the Feline Fatale into a dangerous new realm。
WHEN IN ROME chronicles Catwoman's mysterious trip to Italy and her dealings with the deadly Falcone crime family。 It's a colorful tale of Gotham's sexiest cat burglar at her most intriguing。
This feels very derivative of The Long Halloween, like Loeb tried to recreate the success of that story by essentially redoing it。 The mystery here isn't anywhere near as captivating though and the characters are pretty one dimensional with very little motivation。 Sale's art is great though。 This book looks fantastic。 This feels very derivative of The Long Halloween, like Loeb tried to recreate the success of that story by essentially redoing it。 The mystery here isn't anywhere near as captivating though and the characters are pretty one dimensional with very little motivation。 Sale's art is great though。 This book looks fantastic。 。。。more

This was a fun little sequel to “The Long Halloween”First of all, the art is spectacular。 I was captivated by almost every page。 It was incredible。The plot? I don’t want to spoil anything。 Catwoman goes to Rome。 The Riddler tags along。 Adventure ensues。 More beautiful art。The book is great if you want more content from TLH and you like Catwoman。 Essential reading? Maybe yeah actually because it does explain more of Catwomans roles in “Year One” and “The Long Halloween” Read this if you enjoyed T This was a fun little sequel to “The Long Halloween”First of all, the art is spectacular。 I was captivated by almost every page。 It was incredible。The plot? Jesus, Tim Sale is just amazing! The story is the same formula that we saw in Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory。 Selina goes to Italy to learn about her past, someone is after her and you'll find in the end what's really happening。 Cool to follow through, with nice dialogues and a take on Selina's origins that would worth the character。 But, man, again, what shines on the book is Tim's work and his team of colorists。 Yes, Selina, on some good amount of pages, are almost naked, w Jesus, Tim Sale is just amazing! The story is the same formula that we saw in Batman: The Long Halloween and Batman: Dark Victory。 Selina goes to Italy to learn about her past, someone is after her and you'll find in the end what's really happening。 Cool to follow through, with nice dialogues and a take on Selina's origins that would worth the character。 But, man, again, what shines on the book is Tim's work and his team of colorists。 Yes, Selina, on some good amount of pages, are almost naked, with some hot paints and always provoking all the men in the place, but she's just gorgeous (not like his Lois Lane in Superman: Kryptonite, but still。。。) 。 And all the places, the Italy portrait, the sea, the characters, it's just amazing。It's a book for the art, trust me。 The story is fun, but the pages are gonna turn your head down。 。。。more

I enjoyed the ink wash illustrations but the story didn't really interest me。 Catwoman's dialogue was trying too hard to be witty and despite this being sold as a mystery I didn't see a whole lot of detective work。 Catwoman does manage to be naked or exposed quite often and for no good reason, sometimes to the point of absurdity。 The Batman "scenes" were tiresome and the various twists and revelations felt contrived。Overall, I enjoyed the art, it made up for my indifference toward the plot。 I enjoyed the ink wash illustrations but the story didn't really interest me。 Catwoman's dialogue was trying too hard to be witty and despite this being sold as a mystery I didn't see a whole lot of detective work。 Catwoman does manage to be naked or exposed quite often and for no good reason, sometimes to the point of absurdity。 The Batman "scenes" were tiresome and the various twists and revelations felt contrived。Overall, I enjoyed the art, it made up for my indifference toward the plot。 。。。more

A whole book exploring the worst plot point of Dark Victory。 I did not care for this, but I still like Sale's art style in spite of Loeb's writing。 However, in this book, Sale's art frames Selina with the same leering sexualization as the writing does and it makes the whole thing feel gross even if I like the colors。 A whole book exploring the worst plot point of Dark Victory。 I did not care for this, but I still like Sale's art style in spite of Loeb's writing。 However, in this book, Sale's art frames Selina with the same leering sexualization as the writing does and it makes the whole thing feel gross even if I like the colors。 。。。more

This was enjoyable mostly for the lighter tone and Loebs first person dialogue with Selina。 However, the over use of a lot of the standard troupes wore thin by the end。 We get it, Cat and Woman are sexy。The basis of this story was thin to begin with and this really didn't add much other than as a fun epilogue to the Long Halloween saga。 This was enjoyable mostly for the lighter tone and Loebs first person dialogue with Selina。 However, the over use of a lot of the standard troupes wore thin by the end。 We get it, Cat and Woman are sexy。The basis of this story was thin to begin with and this really didn't add much other than as a fun epilogue to the Long Halloween saga。 。。。more

More of a 3。5 to “Long Halloween”’s more solid 4 stars, but I’m a round upper。Fun side thingy to “Long Halloween”/“Dark Victory” from Loeb & Sale。 The story is a bit of an unnecessary shoehorned “What was Catwoman doing in out of the picture in “Dark Victory”? But it was enjoyable。 And art was great with its the clear nods to 1960s Audrey Hepburn Fashion/Style。

To finish out the Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale Batman saga, we get 'Catwoman: When in Rome。'And to my surprise it was just alright to me。 We follow Catwoman to Rome as she partners up with the Riddler and an Italian hitman, to answer the biggest question of her life。 The story really just never got me fully invested as it felt very all over the place at times。 Loeb's Catwoman doesn't feel the same as she does in LH and DV-probably because this story is centered on her and sadly- I don't think Loeb wri To finish out the Jeph Loeb and Tim Sale Batman saga, we get 'Catwoman: When in Rome。'And to my surprise it was just alright to me。 We follow Catwoman to Rome as she partners up with the Riddler and an Italian hitman, to answer the biggest question of her life。 The story really just never got me fully invested as it felt very all over the place at times。 Loeb's Catwoman doesn't feel the same as she does in LH and DV-probably because this story is centered on her and sadly- I don't think Loeb writes a great Catwoman。 Its not bad by any means, it just feels very "okay lets just get it over with。" It's a 6 issue series but I feel like it need to either be shorter or longer; as at times it felt rushed and then dragged。 Tim's artwork however is still jaw dropping and the obvious highlight of the book。 Not a bad read but I also expect more with these two。 。。。more

So I think there’s a fine line between a character being incredibly sexy (there’s nothing wrong with this, of course) and a character being sexualized at every turn。 This book kind of does the latter, a lot。
