Summary

I enjoyed this book。 I think it brings up a lot of important things and I had fun annotating this book。 It could drag a little and get repetitive, but overall I did enjoy this classic and I'm glad I picked it up。 I enjoyed this book。 I think it brings up a lot of important things and I had fun annotating this book。 It could drag a little and get repetitive, but overall I did enjoy this classic and I'm glad I picked it up。 。。。more

I read this book for school, but to be honest this is probably the first school book that i’ve actually read all the way through on my own。 Wow, i don’t know how to feel about this。 I could rate this 1 star but I could also rate it 5。 The ending had a plot twist I was not expecting and it definitely feels satisfying to say I read all of this, but I probably wouldn’t have been able to make it all the way through if it hadn’t been a school assignment。 At times this book dragged on or was confusing I read this book for school, but to be honest this is probably the first school book that i’ve actually read all the way through on my own。 Wow, i don’t know how to feel about this。 I could rate this 1 star but I could also rate it 5。 The ending had a plot twist I was not expecting and it definitely feels satisfying to say I read all of this, but I probably wouldn’t have been able to make it all the way through if it hadn’t been a school assignment。 At times this book dragged on or was confusing。 Overall this book definitely gets you thinking about politics and the way the world works。 。。。more

It is very Enlightening。 It perfectly explains what happens when ANY ideology Is forced down peoples throats, The things that the people on top would do to those who simply disagree with them。 Your really able to get inside the minds of totalitarian governments and leaders on how they think humanity and the world should be like。

I’m not sure what the big deal is with this book。 There is absolutely no story。 The characters are incredibly boring with no story and the author sets no real background。 I’m so thankful this book was never required reading when I was in school。

The type of book worth re-reading every once in awhile。 This was my third read through in twelve years。 I always find the ending far more terrible than the beginning。 At first I almost found it reassuring, we are obviously not living in a 1984 (we wouldn’t be allowed to read 1984 if we were)。 But the point of the book isn’t to say this is exactly how life is- but rather to illustrate what some of the warning bells are and how one can go from freedom to slavery without even realizing it。 Orwell d The type of book worth re-reading every once in awhile。 This was my third read through in twelve years。 I always find the ending far more terrible than the beginning。 At first I almost found it reassuring, we are obviously not living in a 1984 (we wouldn’t be allowed to read 1984 if we were)。 But the point of the book isn’t to say this is exactly how life is- but rather to illustrate what some of the warning bells are and how one can go from freedom to slavery without even realizing it。 Orwell does a good job of laying out the logic and foundational principles of life in 1984。 Some of my favorite passages are Syme explaining Newspeak and O’Brien explaining the motivations of the party。 Many people quote 1984 without having really read it, and I believe there’s great value in actually reading the whole novel。 In Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, it is the people, not the government, who turn away from free thought and literature。 I think of how 1984 creates a new language to limit speech and by extension thought and how people are constantly being monitored。 I think combining aspects of both books starts to paint a valuable picture of threats to a free and open democracy。 Look forward to reading Brave New World soon! 。。。more

Novel 1984 membuatku speechles! Tidak heran novel ini sangat popular :" 。。。more

This book is a great story, which reflects what life in an extreme totalitarian society would look like。 This is a really good read, somewhere in between science fiction and action/adventure。

“It struck him that the truely characteristic thing about modern life was not its cruelty and insecurity, but simply its bareness, it’s dinginess, it’s listlessness”

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 War Is Peace Freedom Is SlaveryIgnorance Is Strength Every time I hear someone say 1984, these are the lines I keep thinking to myself。 Reading the book was like being on a roller coaster to me。 Will they got caught? Will they be able to continue? The hope that emerged while reading this book that they will be able to hide but at the same time my brain going on that it is not possible! I got so many chills while reading this book。 But truely the ending was Haunting。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 This book perfectly describes the functioning of an authoritarian dystopian society。 What struck is that the party is openly vocal about their dystopian ideals where human needs are completely ignored。 This is to an extent similar to our current world with a huge presence of social media and smart phones。 People's activities can be closely monitored and it seems like are action are guided to fulfill the commercial need of the big tech companies instead of human needs first。 My favorite quote is: This book perfectly describes the functioning of an authoritarian dystopian society。 What struck is that the party is openly vocal about their dystopian ideals where human needs are completely ignored。 This is to an extent similar to our current world with a huge presence of social media and smart phones。 People's activities can be closely monitored and it seems like are action are guided to fulfill the commercial need of the big tech companies instead of human needs first。 My favorite quote is: "Sanity is not statistical"。 。。。more

While by no means a new story and once you get past the writing style and storyline, the meanings and concepts are as relevant as ever。 Well worth a read during such technological and societal change

really difficult book to read, especially the ending。 but i still think that it was amazing。 the depiction of our current reality。

Phoebe McKendry

This was a clever n awesome dystopian novel despite the random hunk of Goldstein’s exposition that was thrown into the mist of part two。 I enjoyed every piece of story written beside that n the ending ;(Oh n before I forget to add this, Winston states that water is wet somewhere near part 1 which is not true !!3/5 stars

I had to read this for my English Litterature IGCSE。 Really overrated with badly written women, I liked the themes but tbh once again I think I'm too dumb to understand the deeper meanings of the book。 I had to read this for my English Litterature IGCSE。 Really overrated with badly written women, I liked the themes but tbh once again I think I'm too dumb to understand the deeper meanings of the book。 。。。more

1984 leaves a shrilling and fearful vision of what the world might be under a regime of complete control and supervision。 It follows Winston, a troubled party worker and his aspirations to break free from the iron grip of the party。 The book lulled and points, and certainly had its dull and overly-long sequences。 Yet overall, once complete, 1984 brilliantly achieves its goal in depicting a dystopian hell where no one is even safe from themselves。

I like Orwell's surveillance-based world building and his idea of what life under totalitarianism would be like。 He's a bad writer, though。 I cannot believe he info-dumped using Goldstein's book, in the middle of this story, and then had Winston say he already knew everything we learned! That's so embarrassing。 It is also really unforgivable the way Orwell writes women。 I cannot believe he introduced every female character by describing her breasts。 Winston tells Julia, to her face, that he fant I like Orwell's surveillance-based world building and his idea of what life under totalitarianism would be like。 He's a bad writer, though。 I cannot believe he info-dumped using Goldstein's book, in the middle of this story, and then had Winston say he already knew everything we learned! That's so embarrassing。 It is also really unforgivable the way Orwell writes women。 I cannot believe he introduced every female character by describing her breasts。 Winston tells Julia, to her face, that he fantasized about raping and murdering her, and she says she loves him! LOVES him! She's 26。 He's 40。 He has an epiphany at the end of the book that 50 year old women can be beautiful! Orwell is the kind of author who I wish just wouldn't write about women。 Just pretend women don't exist。 Commit to the love affair with O'Brien。 There's something so frustrating about how Winston thinks nobody else around him is thinking critically about the world, and then when he's proven wrong about someone, he can't understand why they have different opinions and world views than him。 He projects so intensely onto other people。 I also think there's something strange about Orwell's focus on equality, when really, it seems like freedom and liberty are the problem in his dystopia? There's also something about physicality and health going on that I don't really understand。 I guess I know why this is a classic, but。。。。idk。 Would have been a better short story or essay。 。。。more
