This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it， click here。 So the big question coming out of this volume is whether Valentine planned to kill Johnny all along。 And I'm a firm believer that he didn't。 Valentine has shown himself to be a man of his word， even if he is cruel。 He kept his word not to kill Steven Steel and left Lucy alone on the Blue Hawaii。 Although I wouldn't put it past someone with as much conviction as Valentine， I do not think that he was lying。 My read on the situation is that he brought the spare gun with him as a backup plan。 Howeve So the big question coming out of this volume is whether Valentine planned to kill Johnny all along。 And I'm a firm believer that he didn't。 Valentine has shown himself to be a man of his word， even if he is cruel。 He kept his word not to kill Steven Steel and left Lucy alone on the Blue Hawaii。 Although I wouldn't put it past someone with as much conviction as Valentine， I do not think that he was lying。 My read on the situation is that he brought the spare gun with him as a backup plan。 However， once Johnny tested him， Valentine felt that there he had no way of talking himself out of that situation。 Valentine knew that Johnny would no longer believe him， no matter how honest he was being。 At that point， his only option was to take the first shot。 Because Johnny finding out about the gun was inevitable。 And once Johnny finds out， he's gonna shoot。 And I just love that there's room to have this conversation。 The flurry of emotions that come from the 2 chapter long exchange。 The reader is put in Johnny's position， where you're really not sure if you can trust this guy or not。 And that last line from Valentine at the end。 Masterpiece shit。The twist with High Voltage is fucking baller。 I don't care if people hate it。 I think it's cool as hell。 You get a whole ass chapter building up this mystery， only for the payoff to be the coolest possible option。 The true climax of the story's themes and conflicts happened with Valentine。 But you need some kind of conflict for the end of the race。 And Johnny vs Poco Loco is not that。 Plus， Johnny and Dio didn't really get their final confrontation。 And if this is truly going to be a retelling of parts 1-3， you gotta have Dio。 And while we're at it， why don't the bring back The World。 I can't convey just how exciting that moment is。 I can't wait to see how people react when SBR gets an anime。 Because the question surely has to come up about whether or not old stands can be reintroduced in this new universe。 We've already had stands inspired by the previous universe， but what about straight up returns？ High Voltage answers that question in the grandest way possible。Finally， the moment with Johnny's father was a total surprise and it just melted my heart。 So much of the story has had the theme of characters trying to find peace- trying to find home。 Almost everybody was running away from something and trying to make peace with their past。 Hot Pants died with a heart full of guilt。 Dio died running from his shame。 Gyro died unable to reconcile his heritage with his need for autonomy。 Mountain Tim found his home in Lucy's arms and died immediately afterwards。 Axl Ro died unable to make peace with his past mistakes。 Ringo Roadagain knew his home was on the battlefield and practically resigned himself to dying in a duel。 Sandman died unable to save his people。 Practically every single character dies with unfinished business。 Everybody left things undone， things unsaid。 So for Johnny， after all of these unhappy endings， to not only find his home but to have his home come find him。 It's touching。 。。。more
