Summary

Something evil has swept into the small western Maine town of Castle Rock on the heels of the latest winter storm。 Sheriff Norris Ridgewick and his team are desperately searching for two missing girls, but time is running out to bring them home alive。

In Washington D。C。, thirty-seven-year-old Gwendy Peterson couldn't be more different from the self-conscious teenaged girl who once spent a summer running up Castle Rock's Suicide Stairs。 That same summer, she was entrusted - or some might say cursed - with the extraordinary button box by Richard Farris, the mysterious stranger in the black suit。 The seductive and powerful box offered Gwendy small gifts in exchange for its care and feeding until Farris eventually returned, promising Gwendy she'd never see the box again。

One day, though, the button box shows up without warning - and without Richard Farris to explain why, or what she's supposed to do with it。 The mysterious reappearance of the box, along with the troubling disappearances in Castle Rock, leads Gwendy home again。。。 where she just might be able to help rescue the missing girls and stop a madman before he does something ghastly。

From New York Times bestseller Richard Chizmar comes Gwendy's Magic Feather, a breathtaking novel that asks whether our lives are controlled by fate or the choices we make - and what price we might have to pay for those choices when we reach for the things we most desire。 Prepare to return again to Stephen King's Castle Rock, the sleepy little town built on a bedrock of deep, dark secrets, which is about to awaken from its quiet slumber once more。

It was pretty good。 My favorite part was the small sometimes only one page chapters。 It made it easy to find a stopping place。 And I like how everything wrapped up in the end。

Okay。 Chizmar can write。 No problem there。But for such a little book, there's so much wrong with it:* The titular "feather" doesn't make its appearance until about two-thirds of the way through, is only briefly explained。。。 and then serves as a silly deus ex machina IN A STORY THAT ALREADY HAS ONE!* The "button box" on which this tiny trilogy is based makes ITS appearance right away。。。 and then really doesn't serve any purpose。* The "missing children" element makes you think briefly of "It," unt Okay。 Chizmar can write。 No problem there。But for such a little book, there's so much wrong with it:* The titular "feather" doesn't make its appearance until about two-thirds of the way through, is only briefly explained。。。 and then serves as a silly deus ex machina IN A STORY THAT ALREADY HAS ONE!* The "button box" on which this tiny trilogy is based makes ITS appearance right away。。。 and then really doesn't serve any purpose。* The "missing children" element makes you think briefly of "It," until you realize Chizmar is simply re-telling (or borrowing heavily from) the entire John Smith/Frank Dodd segment in "The Dead Zone。"I guess this story works as homage to King and as a bridge to "Gwendy's Final Task" (which I'll also read and likely bitch about)。 And it IS deftly written。Beyond that, it doesn't have much going for it。 。。。more

I am very happy to say I am extremely pleases with Gwendy's Magic Feather, the second book in the Gwendy's Button Box Trilogy。 The first book, Gwendy's Button Box was written by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar。 It was a big disappointment to me。 I had received the second book in a Good Reads Give Away, and I have to admit, I was not looking forward to reading it, but I am glad I did。 :-) This one was written entirely by Richard Chizmar, who is a very good writer。 I had really enjoyed his Chasin I am very happy to say I am extremely pleases with Gwendy's Magic Feather, the second book in the Gwendy's Button Box Trilogy。 The first book, Gwendy's Button Box was written by Stephen King and Richard Chizmar。 It was a big disappointment to me。 I had received the second book in a Good Reads Give Away, and I have to admit, I was not looking forward to reading it, but I am glad I did。 :-) This one was written entirely by Richard Chizmar, who is a very good writer。 I had really enjoyed his Chasing the Boogeyman。 If you have not read it yet, pick it up。。it is a very good read。 Richard Chizmar, like Stephen King, has the wonderful gift of making the characters come alive for you。 Gwendy's Magic Feather is a short novel which picks up Gwendy's life about 15 years after the first book left off。 It is very helpful to read the first book prior to starting this one, as there are many references to the first book。 This book takes us through several months of Gwendy's life involving the magical, mysterious Button Box, but deals more with the story of Gwendy's life instead of focusing on the box。 It is a quick read and kept my interest。 I liked the characters and the story, and it made me smile。 Good job, Richard Chizmar。 I will definitely be looking for more of your novels。 。。。more

Not sure how, but I missed this second book, read the first and then when I read the 3rd realized that this one was there too。 It was interesting seeing Gwendy at a different time in her life and how she dealt with the button box this time。 She's such a good person, that she can deal with the temptation。 I was glad that she got the knowledge that her life was hers, that she made the choices she did, not lead there。 By the end to this one Gwendy has so much hope in her life。 Not sure how, but I missed this second book, read the first and then when I read the 3rd realized that this one was there too。 It was interesting seeing Gwendy at a different time in her life and how she dealt with the button box this time。 She's such a good person, that she can deal with the temptation。 I was glad that she got the knowledge that her life was hers, that she made the choices she did, not lead there。 By the end to this one Gwendy has so much hope in her life。 。。。more

A different feel from the original Gwendy's Button Box (most likely because Stephen King was not involved in writing this one) but chilling and entertaining nonetheless。 Will be jumping into the last book in the series soon! I enjoyed it and can’t wait to read the final book in the trilogy。

This would have been better if Stephen King had gotten a chance to weigh in。 It read a bit like an outline that hadn’t been fully fleshed out。

Ok so I really enjoy this series。 It’s an easy and fast read! The only negative drawback would have to be how quickly they wrapped up the ending。

I've had this sitting here waiting on me to pick it up。 I'm not sure why I didn't want to open the book, as I really enjoyed the novella that introduces the reader to Gwendy and the infamous button box。 I think maybe I was worried that some of the magic would be missing; this middle work is penned by Chizmar only, not by Chizmar and King together。I should have left my worry at the door。I picked this up yesterday morning and almost had it finished by last night。 I just couldn't quite keep my eyes I've had this sitting here waiting on me to pick it up。 I'm not sure why I didn't want to open the book, as I really enjoyed the novella that introduces the reader to Gwendy and the infamous button box。 I think maybe I was worried that some of the magic would be missing; this middle work is penned by Chizmar only, not by Chizmar and King together。I should have left my worry at the door。I picked this up yesterday morning and almost had it finished by last night。 I just couldn't quite keep my eyes open, so the last 40 pages or so were polished off this morning。 It was that good。Some interesting things happening in this work but not quite as shocking as the intro piece。 We know what the box can do, how alluring it can be, how dangerous it can become。 So that sort of all gets skipped this time around。 A lot more introspection from Gwendy herself which is to be expected - she's not a kid anymore。 Overall, nicely done。 And yes, the third and final installment is sitting here on my dining room table。 Don't think I'll wait quite as long to open its pages ;-) 。。。more

Uma leitura agradável, mas não tão bom como o primeiro。 Muito lento no início, muito rápido no fim。 Mesmo assim, gostei de conhecer a Gwendy adulta。 Gostava que a pena tivesse um papel maior ou uma explicação decente。

Like the first book in this trilogy, this novel is set in one of Stephen King's favorite locations - Castle Rock, Maine (after a few chapters set in Washington, D。C。)。 Those chapters are set in D。C。 because the protagonist of the series (now 37-year-old Gwendy Peterson) is a U。S。 Representative - as well as a successful author and Oscar-winning documentary film maker。 Although Gwendy generally is happy with her life, she is not without challenges。 Her mother has recently gone into remission from Like the first book in this trilogy, this novel is set in one of Stephen King's favorite locations - Castle Rock, Maine (after a few chapters set in Washington, D。C。)。 Those chapters are set in D。C。 because the protagonist of the series (now 37-year-old Gwendy Peterson) is a U。S。 Representative - as well as a successful author and Oscar-winning documentary film maker。 Although Gwendy generally is happy with her life, she is not without challenges。 Her mother has recently gone into remission from cancer。 Her photographer husband is on a dangerous assignment covering political unrest in Asia。 The current President (a thinly disguised version of Donald Trump) is moving the nation closer to war with North Korea。 And her beloved hometown is reeling from the disappearance of two teen-age girls。To make matters worse, Gwendy is once again"gifted" the beautiful mahogany box with buttons on it that she first received as a 12-year-old back in Castle Rock。 But this time, the box simply appears in her Congressional office - without any context being provided by the enigmatic Richard Farris to explain why she's once again been entrusted with the box, which still provides great rewards。。。but even greater responsibilities。I won't go deeper into the plot to avoid any spoilers。 But I will say that this second book in the series ends up being a mix of the first entry and Stephen King's "The Dead Zone。" And while Gwendy's involvement in the mystery of the girls' disappearances is interesting, the overall plot didn't grab me as much as the first entry's plot。 It was okay - just not great。Still, I enjoyed the story。 And I look forward to completing the trilogy with "Gwendy's Final Task。" 。。。more

Bah, aspetto di leggere il terzo, questo mi sembra solo un intermezzo che aggiunge poco o niente alla storia della scatola

This book is NOT about Gwendy rescuing missing girls or solving crime。 It’s about Gwendy going home for the holidays with the mysterious button box in tow after it suddenly reappears。 While I did enjoy the story, and I found Gwendy more likable this time around, it’s not a suspenseful ride。 And the resolution to the missing girls subplot came suddenly and seemingly only to put an end to it, almost like an afterthought。

The Magic BoxI can say that I really enjoyed this story。 The characters were well developed。 The story itself seemed to flow seamlessly。 This is the 2nd novel from this author that I have read。 I look forward to more from him。
