This book was so sad and so infuriating yet written in such a beautiful way。 Definitely tons of trigger warnings but I am glad this book found its way to me! Really enjoyed reading it and the last sentence was something I suspected but hoped I would be wrong about。

I kept waiting for something to happen。This story definitely fell into the "average psychological thriler" category that didn't offer anything new to me。The audible narrator was painful and needed to be listened to at at least 1。5x speed to get thru it。 Underwhelmed for sure。 I kept waiting for something to happen。This story definitely fell into the "average psychological thriler" category that didn't offer anything new to me。The audible narrator was painful and needed to be listened to at at least 1。5x speed to get thru it。 Underwhelmed for sure。 。。。more

SPOILERS ahead, so dont read this unless you want to know。。。。。First the POV confused me at the beginning until i figured out who was who。 Then I didn't mind it so much。 The writing itself was pretty decent, some great phrasing and I really got into the main characters head a lot, which is the point of a novel。That being said, this is basically The Bad Seed told from the mom's POV。 I think you, as the reader are not supposed to know if she is crazy or not, especially by the last 3rd of the book, SPOILERS ahead, so dont read this unless you want to know。。。。。First the POV confused me at the beginning until i figured out who was who。 Then I didn't mind it so much。 The writing itself was pretty decent, some great phrasing and I really got into the main characters head a lot, which is the point of a novel。That being said, this is basically The Bad Seed told from the mom's POV。 I think you, as the reader are not supposed to know if she is crazy or not, especially by the last 3rd of the book, but jeez, some of the things the kid said? I don't understand why she didn't record her at some point。 Get over the "shame" of birthing a psychopath and start being proactive。 Not saying she wouldn't have had an uphill battle with that。 I guess we are supposed to believe Blythe is powerless because of her backstory。 And I did like the mother and grandmother's backstories。 But honestly, either make the kid less scary, or make the mom less stupid。 And the very end? Well that is where I really wanted the book to pick up, when she is validated!!! Instead I got a sad trombone sound and I will never know what happened to Jet。 。。。more

This book will haunt you for a long time。 I can't believe it's Ashley's debut novel, considering how beautifully she has captured the life of a marriage and grief of loss。It's a different and chilling tale of motherhood, loss, and relationships。 The characters are properly developed, and the plot is so tense and eerie that you'll be at the edge of your seat the whole time。I absolutely loved this scary and gut-wrenching ride。 This book will haunt you for a long time。 I can't believe it's Ashley's debut novel, considering how beautifully she has captured the life of a marriage and grief of loss。It's a different and chilling tale of motherhood, loss, and relationships。 The characters are properly developed, and the plot is so tense and eerie that you'll be at the edge of your seat the whole time。I absolutely loved this scary and gut-wrenching ride。 。。。more

Fast read, will definitely spur some interesting conversation。 Type of book that hangs with you as you chew on the ending long after you are done。

This was a very well-written story, but I read it not knowing of the dark subject matter。 Read the synopsis before you begin to be sure you are looking for this type of tale。 If you are, you won’t be disappointed。 I finished it in two days in spite of wishing I’d chosen something more inspiring for my world-weary spirits。

Samantha

Predicable ending, however, I am still really disturbed。

Carol Cooke

I enjoyed this book。 The characters are fantastic。

Clarissa

2。75 stars

Chloe Voorheis

I enjoyed the way this book was written the most。 It’s a disturbing and controversial topic。 The only reason I didn’t love it was that the book was so sad and heavy and offers up the question can someone be born evil????

Beth Elias

Utterly spellbinding I couldn’t stop reading。 Loved every page of this。

Psycho BookIf you like to read books about a creepy kid or be in the mind of a mentally disturbed/grief stricken person - then this is the book for you。 The descriptions are excellent and you feel like you are in her head。 It is NOT my kind of book。

Georgia Strickland

It was a good book。 Hard to put down。 I just don't like books that include a death of a child so it was also hard to read。 It was a good book。 Hard to put down。 I just don't like books that include a death of a child so it was also hard to read。 。。。more

Not a surprise ending in my opinion but an enjoyable read nonetheless

An excellent first novel。 I look forward to more。 Being a mental health professional, I read the signs early, and could only read on and verify。 Quite a moving story。

Jennifer

Omgoodness I couldn’t stop reading this train wreck of a story!!! Tired generationally scarred mamas, malicious little devils, cheating hubbies that think their little angels can do no wrong, so many things happening at the same time you can’t put this one down until it comes to its final chilling end!!! Goosebumps!!

Arya Newberry

i think i just had the wrong expectations for this book。 i have no problem setting down a book i don’t like though, and i finished this! so yA know… there’s that

Jennifer B

Enjoyed this one! Super quick read。 Not totally perfect, but I enjoyed the way it was written。

Olivia Ritter

i liked this book a lot, it made me question the sanity of the main character and wonder if it was all in her head the whole time up until the end。

CB

Buen libro, fluido, biene escrito。 Muy duro y devastador para uno como mamá ver la psicopata en que se convierte su hija。

I feel bad for hating this book but it really just sucked。 I just wanted to be done reading it。 I don't understand all of the 4/5 star reviews。 It was a let down with no likable characters and a disappointing ending。 I feel bad for hating this book but it really just sucked。 I just wanted to be done reading it。 I don't understand all of the 4/5 star reviews。 It was a let down with no likable characters and a disappointing ending。 。。。more

“a mother’s heart breaks a million ways in her lifetime。”i think this was the first horror novel i’ve read。 and wow。 ok。

Amanda Oliveira

É um livro bem viciante, difícil parar de ler。Da metade pro final dá uma esfriada mas continua bom。

Rhosabelle

All I can say is that it was dark, twisty, and frustratingly clever。At points I wanted to throw the book in disgust, trash it in annoyance, and rip it into shreds at frustration。A book that you have to chug through like a shot of tequila to get to the thrilling end - highly recommend if you want a “not your ordinary” psych thriller。
