It was very helpful in learning how to train my puppy not to jump on people and the importance of socializing her abs getting her used to vet and grooming handling。 But I wish she talked more about how to stop common puppy behaviors like nipping and biting at clothes when playing/excited。 It is a very basic how to guide that I know I needed。 At times it does seem like it advertises types of training too much but I understand why and the author makes it very clear as to why these items are so muc It was very helpful in learning how to train my puppy not to jump on people and the importance of socializing her abs getting her used to vet and grooming handling。 But I wish she talked more about how to stop common puppy behaviors like nipping and biting at clothes when playing/excited。 It is a very basic how to guide that I know I needed。 At times it does seem like it advertises types of training too much but I understand why and the author makes it very clear as to why these items are so much easier。 。。。more

First things first: it’s the FIRST book I read while getting ready for my FIRST puppy, so I hardly have any experience with which to compare。The book’s great - consistent, clear, and well-structured。 I especially liked the example plan for the day and the socialization checklist - it helped with that feeling of overwhelm I first experienced。I would’ve liked some more “what to do if stuff doesn’t go as planned” and a bit more focus on the common errors that we humans make。My puppy isn’t coming un First things first: it’s the FIRST book I read while getting ready for my FIRST puppy, so I hardly have any experience with which to compare。The book’s great - consistent, clear, and well-structured。 I especially liked the example plan for the day and the socialization checklist - it helped with that feeling of overwhelm I first experienced。I would’ve liked some more “what to do if stuff doesn’t go as planned” and a bit more focus on the common errors that we humans make。My puppy isn’t coming until Autumn, so it’s hard to say how easy/difficult following the program with her will be - I’m sure I’ll refer to the “perfect puppy” right when she comes around! 。。。more

This book was easy to read。 So far the biggest things I've learned from this book are a) the dog body language chart in the handling chapter and b) the checklist for socialization。 I don't have my puppy yet though, so I'll update with a real review and rating once I know how useful all of this was for me。 This book was easy to read。 So far the biggest things I've learned from this book are a) the dog body language chart in the handling chapter and b) the checklist for socialization。 I don't have my puppy yet though, so I'll update with a real review and rating once I know how useful all of this was for me。 。。。more

One of the most important books I've ever read。 I had the pleasure of talking with Dr。 Yin over dinner less than a year before her tragic death。 Her work lives on through those of us who've learned from her。 One of the most important books I've ever read。 I had the pleasure of talking with Dr。 Yin over dinner less than a year before her tragic death。 Her work lives on through those of us who've learned from her。 。。。more

Want to know how to easily teach your puppy a lot of useful things in 7 days? This is the way!

Biggest take away from this book was to use meals as training treats through out the day so every experience is a learning experience。 Highly recommend!

Our puppy is not perfect, and I apologise very much to Sophia Yin! But this is a really good primer for new dog owners whether or not you can follow it to the letter or not。*Please note: this review is meant as a recommendation only。 Please do not use it in any marketing material, online or in print, without asking permission from me first。 Thank you!*

This is a new (for me) way to train a dog and it makes perfect sense。 I taught my 10 week old puppy to sit ( and more) in three days without saying a word or touching her。 From sit you move to everything else you need for puppy good citizenship。 Add a little conditioning to make the puppy comfortable on odd surfaces, vet and groomer friendly, avoid fear of cars, trucks and the vacuum cleaner。 Other things, like no jumping, barking or nipping, come when called, sit, stay, leash manners etc follow This is a new (for me) way to train a dog and it makes perfect sense。 I taught my 10 week old puppy to sit ( and more) in three days without saying a word or touching her。 From sit you move to everything else you need for puppy good citizenship。 Add a little conditioning to make the puppy comfortable on odd surfaces, vet and groomer friendly, avoid fear of cars, trucks and the vacuum cleaner。 Other things, like no jumping, barking or nipping, come when called, sit, stay, leash manners etc follow straight out of the sit。 And you never need to say no。Wether you are training a puppy or rehabbing an older rescue this book will help。 Why train from day one? As Yin says。 Everything you do trains a dog。 So why not train intentionally to get the behavior you want? 。。。more

I didn’t have the time or discipline to follow the recommendations to the letter, but three months in to new puppy, I recognize the value of her approach! I do use a lot of her tips, which are helpful。 Have the ebook, wish it was available in print format。

It was a good book but。。。I like this book except I felt that it was a little boring。 The author repeated some things more than once (three times even) and I felt like she could cut down a few pages。 This is a very educational book and I recommend it to anyone who wants to train their dog but sometimes for me it felt like it dragged on。 Very good word choice though and it was very well written。 4 stars from me。

This is THE book to read when training a puppy。 Such a time saver, simple and effective! Took my pup about 4 days to catch the hang of this method in its entirety。 LEARN 👏 TO 👏 EARN 👏。。。

Great puppy training book Loved all the pictures 。 The techniques work。 Important-in the last chapter she explains it will take more than a week!

Did not find usefulI did not think tethering your dog to you for your to 8 hrs a day was realistic, at least not for me。

My gf made me read this。 Informative and lots of helpful pictures but felt like homework

Good read, even with some of the repetition that was in odd placesGreat practical how-to guide for a new soon to be dog owner。 I’ve raised puppies before but want to incorporate more structure this time around early on。 This book provides that through a “good behavior “ foundational philosophy— one that I agree with。 Thumbs up。

A great book for every puppy owner。 Must read BEFORE getting a puppy as it goes with a lot of instructions of how to start-off correctly。It doesn't much cover psychology aspects, instead gives direct explanation how & what to do。Surely, this should be ONE OF the books you read when getting a puppy, not THE ONLY。 A great book for every puppy owner。 Must read BEFORE getting a puppy as it goes with a lot of instructions of how to start-off correctly。It doesn't much cover psychology aspects, instead gives direct explanation how & what to do。Surely, this should be ONE OF the books you read when getting a puppy, not THE ONLY。 。。。more

Really loved reading this book。 Lots of pictures, I learned a lot, and it's entertaining。 Her actual recommended strategy is tough to follow but I feel like we've been able to adopt enough of it to make reading this book very worth my time。 Really loved reading this book。 Lots of pictures, I learned a lot, and it's entertaining。 Her actual recommended strategy is tough to follow but I feel like we've been able to adopt enough of it to make reading this book very worth my time。 。。。more

Good stuff without Caesar’s egoCommon sense approach, without the self-aggrandizing of Caesar’s Way。 That said the idea of a perfect puppy in 7 days is gimmicky; it takes a lifetime to have a great dog。 But a good way to begin。

Very easy to follow, only took a day to read。 I would recommend this to anyone bringing home a new dog。 The pictures are particularly helpful for beginners, or anyone who may not know how to read a dogs body language。 This skips over all but the most essential parts formal jargon, making this a great option for families。

In a nutshell, I read this in anticipation of picking up a puppy in June (which we did)。 It's an excellent book that provides step-by-step instructions for positive-reinforcement-based training, replete with photos。 Dr。 Yin called her program 'Learn to Earn,' which basically means withholding food kibble from meals in deference to using it to pay off all desired behaviors。 Did we teach our pup to sit at 8 weeks of age on day two of adoption? Yes, we did! Were we able to keep up with all the other aspects of the program outlined so nicely in the free-to-download poster I linked to above? No way in hell。Turns out that knowing what and what not to do and executing properly are two verrrrry different things。 Puppies are hard, exhausting, sleep-depriving labors of love with two-hours' worth of bladder (five to six crated at night)。 Don't get me wrong: I'm sold on learn to earn。 But do yourself a favor as you socialize your pet: hire yourself a trainer to train you。 。。。more

Best puppy book ever。 This method is time intensive at first, but it works and it pays off!

Great Visuals for continued refreshing of dog training tipsI appreciate how this book is organized and that there are step-by-step visuals for the training techniques。 The visuals help me understand what some of the other training books I have been reading were explaining。 I think that I will be revisiting this book many times while training my new puppy。 I feel less anxious about training my puppy after reading this book。

This book was fine, just really short。 Loads of pictures and I learned some helpful lessons about keeping a pup tethered to me until they're potty trained, but I'd give this one a miss。 This book was fine, just really short。 Loads of pictures and I learned some helpful lessons about keeping a pup tethered to me until they're potty trained, but I'd give this one a miss。 。。。more

I own and have read a lot of dog training books。 To keep it simple I will say this is by far the best book you can own for training a puppy。 It is attention grabbing attention keeping and a great reference overall when trying to train a puppy or a new dog of any age for that matter。 Highly recommend this book along with anything by Patricia McConnell and Ian Dunbar。

Bonnie Gildea

Great book。 I trained by Boxer puppy with many of her training tips。 They worked perfectly。
