Summary

Powerful stories and a clear pattern - connector of all these independent stories。 To my surprise, also generation/family link matters (might be, this is where the saying “family curse” comes from)。 Would be great if book provided more also on practical preventive side。 Now it focuses on outcomes and reasons: “cancer has psychological profile”。

DNF。 I have not returned to this book since I began it two years ago - I found myself resistant。 Understanding how trauma may impact survivors is helpful and validating knowledge。 However, in depth descriptions without solutions, may not feel encouraging。 As a survivor myself, I found it discouraging to only read about things that could/may/are likely to happen to a body and mind that have experienced trauma。 I’d rather know how to cope with or decrease those symptoms。

It’s interesting to understand the correlations he draws and it’s important to see how stress and anger and unresolved issues can affect our health。 The data however is lacking and the stories are from people he met working in care facilities, the stories tend to make the book hard to read because they all seem similar and they drag the conclusions along for too many pages

An alternative look at why people get sick, how repressed emotions grow into tumors and what we can do to get better。 Thoroughly enjoyable。

Never give up in the face of illness— there’s always healing that can happen if we take an honest look inside ourselves。

As always, Dr。 Gabor delivered a thought-provoking book regarding the psychological underpinnings of various chronic illnesses。 I found the information illuminating and I enjoy the flow of the writing。 This book made me take stock of my emotions, and I’ll keep coming back to it to remember the 7 A’s。

⭐ 。。。more

My first non fiction read this year。 A true reminder to understand our whole selves and the effects of the physical and emotional elements of our lives as an overall response not isolated from eachother。 I hope to be able to use what I have learned to improve the balance of my own health and well being and understand better those around me。

Gabor is an amazing doctor and professional。 Every sentence what he writes is true but of course difficult to digest for the majority as it can be really painful - the moment of the truth is never easy to be accepted and it is easier to find one million excuses around, just not to face the music;-)) i think it opens a very deep knowledge for me and i loved reading it。 Just one remark do not even attempt reading this book if you are not open minded enough and willing to learn yourself from differ Gabor is an amazing doctor and professional。 Every sentence what he writes is true but of course difficult to digest for the majority as it can be really painful - the moment of the truth is never easy to be accepted and it is easier to find one million excuses around, just not to face the music;-)) i think it opens a very deep knowledge for me and i loved reading it。 Just one remark do not even attempt reading this book if you are not open minded enough and willing to learn yourself from different angle。 We can not change the past but sometimes it is good to understand it as it helps us change the presence。 I adored it。 Thank you Gabor, you have all my admiration as some of the learnings you shared with us made my jaw dropped。 I could not believe … 💕❤️ 。。。more

All credits to the author for documenting and bringing this very important topic in front of us。For my taste, the book was dry, it seemed to be a medical journal, rather than an easily digestible reading。

I found it difficult to read at first, it was sad to hear of others experiences。 Once I got past that I was able to empathize with the anecdotes。 It was a great read to help you think differently in certain situations。

Intuitively we know stress is bad for us。 This book goes beyond that, connecting our childhood and upbringing with our capacity to deal with stress as adults。 Illness is a manifestation of our body being under constant pressure and not having a mechanism to cope。 I enjoyed the rejection of positive thinking when it’s used towards ignoring the obvious。 I already recommended the book to friends and family。
