Summary

Tenma learns that ten years ago, a woman with twin children lived in an old apartment house in downtown Prague, above a sign with three frogs。 The neighbors also tell him about the Czech secret police and a questionable fire。 Could the twins have been Johan and Anna?

Meanwhile, Suk, a young detective in the Prague Police Department, meets a beautiful young woman named Anna in a bar。 Suk also crosses paths with Tenma as a new terror looms over them。

BKA chief inspector Lunge, now convinced of Johan’s involvement in the serial murders, comes to Prague to find out what Johan really is。 He learns that an agent of the Czech secret police created the strange picture book "The Nameless Monster," which seems to have deeply affected Johan in his childhood。 Lunge manages to locate the “Red Rose Mansion” that inspired the author of the book。 There, behind a thickly plastered wall, he discovers an old door and the true horrors that lay beyond it!

We are getting closer to finding out who the twin’s parents are。 I was actually SHOCKED when we revealed that Johan was impersonating Anna。 Now we know why she was making kills left and right in the previous volume! I am not sure why I never thought of that before, it seems so obvious。 They look identical, of course Johan would find it useful to impersonate her! As dark as this manga has been, the sequence where that little boy Milosh is sent into the red light district was some of the bleakest。 We are getting closer to finding out who the twin’s parents are。 I was actually SHOCKED when we revealed that Johan was impersonating Anna。 Now we know why she was making kills left and right in the previous volume! As dark as this manga has been, the sequence where that little boy Milosh is sent into the red light district was some of the bleakest。 Sometimes I don’t really like when this happens in stories, like I would rather learn more about Dieter than have a new little boy character who fulfills pretty much a similar role even tho Dieter is still around。 At the end Tenma is arrested and all of the patients he has helped plan to band together to seek his freedom。 This volume was nice because it felt like we were getting to return to the earlier volumes which helped me keep everything straight。 We are also getting more info about the twin’s childhood and the happenings at 511 Kinderheim。 Grimmer, who seems cheerful and easygoing, was also damaged at 511 Kinderheim and has had to learn emotions by rote。 He has a breakthrough emotional moment when stopping Milosh from jumping off the bridge after that manipulative experience with Johan in the red light district。 。。。more

Nina talks to Detective Suk who was investigating Grimmer and reveals that Grimmer gave him the key to a safe deposit box。The key was given to him by the doctor who once ran 511 Kinderheim。 She warns him to tell no one about the key。 But is she who she appears to be?Suk goes to meet Grimmer, unaware that his own department is trailing him, hoping to get a lead on their suspect。 Together they go to the bank and open the safe deposit box to find a report and a cassette tape。 On the tape is the voice of a young boy who is being asked questions, such as his name。 He says his name is Johan, and he speaks about Anna and a monster with no name。 Afterward, Suk is approached by members of the Secret Police, who accuse him of having something to do with the poisoning of the three policemen。 Although he protests his innocence, things don’t look good when they find a package of the same whiskey bonbons the men were poisoned with! When Grimmer arrives, he finds Suk standing in a room with two dead detectives! What is going on here? And where are the tape and the report? Tenma learns about what has happened, and goes to visit Suk’s mother in the hospital to see if she has heard from him。 Unfortunately, she has memory lapses and thinks he is Suk, so that doesn’t help。 But she does remember a secret hideout Jan played in as a boy, and reminds her “son” of where it is。 Can Suk and Grimmer be there? When Tenma finds Grimmer, he learns about his background as a spy, and how he was once at 511 Kinderheim himself! Now Suk is missing and not in the hospital he should be in。 Tenma and Grimmer find themselves invited to dinner by the man who knows where he is, Colonel Lanke。 He only wants the tape and the report in exchange for Suk’s whereabouts。 It turns out he has a personal reason to destroy those behind the notorious orphanage。Nina and Dieter are also in Prague and when they find the pub with the three toads, the place is strangely familiar to Nina。 What she doesn’t understand is why people there seem to recognize her, and why do they call her Anna?A lot of backstory here, history coming to light, as the threads in this incredible tapestry of a story become more and more tightly woven, a picture emerging。 So Grimmer was at Kinderheim too? Interesting。 His history explained much about him。 It’s amazing he turned out as well as he did。 Except for the part about the Amazing Steiner。 But maybe that isn’t what it seems either。 Johan must be getting nervous if he’s dressing up like his sister to fool people。 Detective Lunge is still on the case, but he is so obsessed with being right about Tenma that he dismisses any other evidence as wrong, especially if it points to Johan being a real person who isn’t in Tenma’s mind。 Then the unthinkable happens, and Tenma is captured。 How will he get out of this? And yuck, his alcoholic ex is back in the picture。 Hopefully not for long。Another great volume, looking forward to the next one! 。。。more

Chomp-chomp, munch-munch, gobble-gobble, gulp!

I still love this no matter how many times I read this。 The politics are so dense。 The pyschological aspect of human experiments and how this affected the people who were involved are so frustrating to read。 Wolfgang Grimmer is a real example of this inhumane act, the product of horrible experiment and it was devastating to see him trying to understand what is normal in certain situation

Holy fucking shit I did NOT see that reveal coming。 This is crazy, twisted, and intense while also having sometimes just two people talking for 20 pages。 It goes to show Urasawa is a master at weaving together multiple storylines all into one big narrative and just when you think one is a waste, like why are we back talking about this character, it links to the main story in a major way。 Tenma and Grimmer together work to try to catch Liebert, but when Johan uses kids to get his way things get e Holy fucking shit I did NOT see that reveal coming。 This is crazy, twisted, and intense while also having sometimes just two people talking for 20 pages。 It goes to show Urasawa is a master at weaving together multiple storylines all into one big narrative and just when you think one is a waste, like why are we back talking about this character, it links to the main story in a major way。 Tenma and Grimmer together work to try to catch Liebert, but when Johan uses kids to get his way things get even MORE fucked up。 If I had to pick a weak part it was probably Lunge's storyline being a little long and just recounting what we know。 BUT then his end part was freaky and exciting all at once。 With a ending leaving our heroes in danger, where the FUCK do we go from here? The mystery starts to reveal solutions and twists as Dr。Tenmas story reaches an important point that will call into action all his previous good deeds。 The story continues to be intriguing while new characters leave their mark。 This manga highlights very strong writing and imagination。

A lot of the disparate threads start coming together and there’s a twist that absolutely shouldn’t have surprised me but it did。 A highlight here was getting to know about about Grimmer, a relatively new and very likeable character, with depths unclear from the surface。 Continues to be captivating and very well told。
