Summary

The untold story of Sherlock Holmes’ greatest rival, Moriarty!

Before he was Sherlock Holmes’s rival, William James Moriarty fought against the unfair class caste system in London by making sure corrupt nobility got their comeuppance。 But even the most well-intentioned plans can spin out of control—will his dream of a more just and equal world turn him into a hero…or a monster?

In order to negotiate with Irene Adler in secret, Count Albert Moriarty arranges a masquerade ball at Buckingham Palace。 What is the secret contained in the documents Miss Adler stole? And what is she really after? The Lord of Crime, the Great Detective, and the Beautiful Thief battle it out in the shadows of the elegant ball while the fate of the country rests in their hands。

The Woman has entered the word of Moriarty the Patriot in a reoccurring role in the cast of characters。 The identity she assumes at the end of the volume。。。I won't spoil it。。。but there have been hints that this fandom was just waiting for the right moment to have their entrance from the wings。 Already looking forward to Volume 7 to come to the local Library。 The Woman has entered the word of Moriarty the Patriot in a reoccurring role in the cast of characters。 The identity she assumes at the end of the volume。。。I won't spoil it。。。but there have been hints that this fandom was just waiting for the right moment to have their entrance from the wings。 Already looking forward to Volume 7 to come to the local Library。 。。。more

Again rating this higher because I simply always enjoy this series, even if what becomes of Irene Adler makes me burst out laughing every single time。 The chapter splash pages are also especially good in this volume - the one of Irene in her undergarments is beautiful and I'm a sucker for "reflection making a different face," like we see in the William splash page。 Again rating this higher because I simply always enjoy this series, even if what becomes of Irene Adler makes me burst out laughing every single time。 The chapter splash pages are also especially good in this volume - the one of Irene in her undergarments is beautiful and I'm a sucker for "reflection making a different face," like we see in the William splash page。 。。。more

Irene Adler rules。 This volume is mostly about Irene Adler and I am all about it。 We get more information about some of the side characters, like Sherlock's brother Mycroft, and it really sets up a showdown between man of the government, Mycroft, and the secret man on the inside, Moriarty。 It's fantastic。 There's so much in this volume that it's hard to talk about without discussing all the spoilers that give away the fun!Irene is the center of this volume as we learn more about her, how she cam Irene Adler rules。 This volume is mostly about Irene Adler and I am all about it。 We get more information about some of the side characters, like Sherlock's brother Mycroft, and it really sets up a showdown between man of the government, Mycroft, and the secret man on the inside, Moriarty。 It's fantastic。 There's so much in this volume that it's hard to talk about without discussing all the spoilers that give away the fun!Irene is the center of this volume as we learn more about her, how she came to become Irene Adler, and what her plan is。 Everyone finds out that Irene has some document that she's using to blackmail the Duke of Wales and the entire volume is about the different groups making plans to get it from her。 Her relationship with Sherlock in this is wonderful, he's a bit smitten with her, just like in the novels, and it comes across very well and in an amusing fashion in this volume。 I love Albert and he got some real moments to shine in this。 Why is this series so addictive?! I want this to be a whole animated series it's so damn fun。 Blog / Twitter / Instagram 。。。more

Ah, what fun this volume was! It was everything I wanted, and then some! For some reason, this also very much feels like an end to Act One, and I can’t wait to see how they proceed with this series!

Irene Adler’s got a secret, but it isn’t hers, and that’s a problem。 That secret could be the ruin of Britain and a Moriarty has been tasked with getting it back and Adler gone。 Enter Sherlock Holmes, professional meddler, and some of the most revisionist history (and fiction) in, well, history…I have to say that this has been a pretty strong arc for a series that oscillates between okay and great with very little middle ground sometimes。 Partly this one works because it turns down the depravity Irene Adler’s got a secret, but it isn’t hers, and that’s a problem。 That secret could be the ruin of Britain and a Moriarty has been tasked with getting it back and Adler gone。 Enter Sherlock Holmes, professional meddler, and some of the most revisionist history (and fiction) in, well, history…I have to say that this has been a pretty strong arc for a series that oscillates between okay and great with very little middle ground sometimes。 Partly this one works because it turns down the depravity and cruelty in favour of absurdity。Straight into the story, they certainly make less hay out of the costume party where Adler and Albert meet up than I was expecting, using a potentially rich ‘game within a game’ to do little more than set up a meeting。 Honestly, it would have bogged down the narrative, but it seems like a whole story could have been spun out of that premise。Still, there’s an impressive amount of ‘who knows what’ and ‘who is ahead of whom’ and general scheming that makes this a lot of fun。 It initially looks like the story is doing very dirty by Irene Adler’s character (even I saw through the hilarious lengths Holmes goes to in his deception), but there’s enough of a hint that she remains sharp as a tack through the conclusion that I’ll allow it。All in all, it’s a very long storyline that justifies its length by virtue of being decidedly entertaining and moving at a good clip。 This version of Holmes is fallible enough that he’s often more interesting than not, even when he’s being a bit of a jerk。 His machinations this time are all fairly excellent, but this is clearly not his story, and it’s good that the manga makes it clear。Of course, this isn’t the only aspect of the storyline and while I appreciate them revealing what was in the documents that were stolen… uh, this won’t be cited in any history papers any time soon, shall we say? This part is amusingly overwrought, though I don’t doubt the way countries back then were so prickly that it probably could start a war。 It’s rather crazy, although everybody plays it utterly straight and somehow the book gets away with it。Then there’s the very ending, which is even more overwrought, as Irene Adler joins the team, but as an entirely different person, owing to her current circumstances。 I give this series some guff, but you can’t fault it’s daring, I grant you that much。 It’s jaw-droppingly audacious (and ludicrous) and it feels like one of those things that could be incredibly divisive for the audience。 Honestly, as silly as it is, it fits in with everything (although the dialogue presaging said reveal is absolutely torturous), so, hey, good enough。4 stars - sometimes I am not in the mood for the antics of the Moriarty clan, sometimes I am, and this time I was。 A very solid, utterly preposterous, entry that just goes for it and mostly gets what it’s after。 。。。more

This installment was a bit disappointing。 I liked the reveal about The French Revolution (no spoilers here), but the ending, another reveal, was kinda incredulous as if the writers were trying too hard to make the story shocking。 It reminded me a bit of "Into The Woods" (the musical) when they try to shove as many folktales into one story。 It just doesn't work out sometimes。 I will, of course, continue the series—because I want to know where the plot will meander next。 I've also started the anim This installment was a bit disappointing。 I liked the reveal about The French Revolution (no spoilers here), but the ending, another reveal, was kinda incredulous as if the writers were trying too hard to make the story shocking。 It reminded me a bit of "Into The Woods" (the musical) when they try to shove as many folktales into one story。 It just doesn't work out sometimes。 I will, of course, continue the series—because I want to know where the plot will meander next。 I've also started the anime, which is slightly different, but enjoyable all the same。 。。。more

Jesus f*cking Christ, this series。 It's simultaneously a brilliant love letter to the original canon, tying together pieces into new and intriguing shapes, and also so ham-fisted that I often groan out loud at the page。 I love it to pieces。 Jesus f*cking Christ, this series。 It's simultaneously a brilliant love letter to the original canon, tying together pieces into new and intriguing shapes, and also so ham-fisted that I often groan out loud at the page。 I love it to pieces。 。。。more

Looking at him is *therapy*。The ball was not only chosen as a place for negotiation but it's where another 'vile nobleman' falls into the trap of The Lord of Crime。 It's a murder; a subtle one。 Not the best in the series but no one will be any the wiser。 While Albert seemed unfazed, Adler began to panic。 It was all done to prove to Irene how powerful James Moriarty is (and to punish the nobleman, of course)。 There's no use in hiding secrets because they know everything。The negotiation was intense; as the documents that were stolen by Adler is damaging towards the British Empire, she must die。 But Albert promised to help under a few conditions。 They set a time and place to meet。Back at 221B, Sherlock once again proves that his method for uncovering clues is ingenious but who in their right mind would fake a bombing?? It was unconventional but it's not stupid if it works! I don't know how he managed to convince Ms Hudson。Adler fell for his tricks。They eventually found out about Adler's secrets。 Sherlock knew that the king's request was just a ruse and that she was hiding something far more damaging。 Adler explained to Sherlock about the document and how she was approached by the government with an offer。 Sherlock called her bluff and immediately knew that The Lord of Crimes is behind this, somehow。 Sherlock and John tried finding ways to save her from going to 'him' but couldn't。Irene eventually said goodbye to Sherlock but he is still adamant about saving her。 He had to let her go as there is no other way to save her。 With the documents safe in the hands of the Lord of crimes, Sherlock also received a sealed envelope with his name on it as collateral。Sherlock and Irene finally said their goodbyes。 It was emotional yet sweet。 Also, Mycroft found out about the Moriarty Brothers or The Lord of Crimes。 Albert mentioned how damaging the content of the documents would be if people were to find out。 In a way, he is black-mailing。 It was done to buy his silence。After learning about their goals and plan, Mycroft has decided to put them under the MI6 division under a few conditions。 With that in effect, Irene Alder 'died'。Sherlock eventually learns about Adler's demise and decided to burn the sealed envelope with the Lord of Crime's identity。 It's clearly more fun to investigate by himself。 He likes the challenge。This volume really picks up towards the ending。 It was such a satisfying wrap-up to a puzzling yet important storyline。 My mind is blown。Even though I already know what happens, the new identity of Irene Adler will forever remain iconic。 The death of a character is not always sad。Welcome, James Bond。 I also love how two worlds are intertwined in the manga (007 / BOND AND SHERLOCK)。 I want more。 。。。more
