Summary

From the New York Times bestselling author of The Guest List comes a new locked room mystery, set in a Paris apartment building in which every resident has something to hide…

Jess needs a fresh start。 She’s broke and alone, and she’s just left her job under less than ideal circumstances。 Her half-brother Ben didn’t sound thrilled when she asked if she could crash with him for a bit, but he didn’t say no, and surely everything will look better from Paris。 Only when she shows up – to find a very nice apartment, could Ben really have afforded this? – he’s not there。

The longer Ben stays missing, the more Jess starts to dig into her brother’s situation, and the more questions she has。 Ben’s neighbors are an eclectic bunch, and not particularly friendly。 Jess may have come to Paris to escape her past, but it’s starting to look like it’s Ben’s future that’s in question。

The socialite – The nice guy – The alcoholic – The girl on the verge – The concierge

Everyone’s a neighbor。 Everyone’s a suspect。 And everyone knows something they’re not telling。

3。5 stars。 It took me awhile to get into this one, but ultimately it had some interesting twists。 Worth a read but nowhere near as good as The Guest List or The Hunting Party。

Thank you to Netgalley for providing a review copy。 This review will also be posted on my Goodreads page。 I am a fan of Lucy Foley。 While I don't think this was her best, I did enjoy it。 Jess arrives in Paris to visit her brother Ben。 When Jess arrives, Ben is nowhere to be found。 A few macabre clues lead her to think something bad has happened。 Ben's apartment building is mysterious the say the least。 The residents are an odd bunch and all seem like they have something to hide。 Jess becomes inv Thank you to Netgalley for providing a review copy。 This review will also be posted on my Goodreads page。 I am a fan of Lucy Foley。 While I don't think this was her best, I did enjoy it。 Jess arrives in Paris to visit her brother Ben。 When Jess arrives, Ben is nowhere to be found。 A few macabre clues lead her to think something bad has happened。 Ben's apartment building is mysterious the say the least。 The residents are an odd bunch and all seem like they have something to hide。 Jess becomes involved and falls deeper down the rabbit hole to try to figure out what happened to Ben。 This novel was interesting。 I did feel like It was gearing up for a reveal that would make my jaw drop, but while it didn't, I wouldn't say I didn't like the novel。 It has an interesting mystery and keeps you guessing, but I would have liked a little something more。 I feel like "mysterious apartment buildings" is becoming a trope in thrillers and to stand out you have to have that wow factor。 。。。more

I liked this one, but I think I was expecting 。。。 more? It took almost 300 pages for this book to get anywhere plot-wise, which was just a bit too long for me。 That being said, the writing style draws you in, keeps you turning the pages, even while you flip back and forth between different POVs and there are more questions than answers。 I found this book compelling, and had no issue picking it back up after I'd set it down for a bit, but I just feel like the story was too slow for anything more I liked this one, but I think I was expecting 。。。 more? Idk why, but could notttt get into this one。 I guess credit though that it’s different from her last two (which were exactly the same books in different locations)。

I enjoyed this very much。 The style of writing was unique and the storyline kept me interested。

Started off strong but became less interesting。 I didn’t care much by the end。

This was not my favorite Lucy Foley book, but it was a decent read。 I felt the book was a bit predictable, but some of the ending did surprise me。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Not quite sure what I can say about this one that hasn’t been said already。 This one is definitely a slow burn。What I liked:+short chapters+there were a lot of possibilities about what happenedWhat I didn’t like:+I felt like there were too many characters 😅 +a lot of useless/not really necessary to the story filler time+the random bits of French that are translated like the rest??? It bothered me so much

This story unfolded so much differently than I had anticipated。 I loved the slow release of the plot that kept me intrigued。 I thought it was unpredictable from the beginning。

Je suis désolé。

I thought this was a great read - full of twists and suspense。 The creepiest family I've come across in a long while- even keeping hidden that they are a family。 I haven't always felt Lucy Foley's books live up to the hype, but this one is my favourite so far。 A well created atmosphere, I could imagine being in Paris。 Excellent thriller。 #netgalley #theparisapartment I thought this was a great read - full of twists and suspense。 The creepiest family I've come across in a long while- even keeping hidden that they are a family。 I haven't always felt Lucy Foley's books live up to the hype, but this one is my favourite so far。 A well created atmosphere, I could imagine being in Paris。 Excellent thriller。 #netgalley #theparisapartment 。。。more

Let me start off by saying I love Lucy Foley, The Guest List was and is one of my favorite books and she’s a master at weaving together characters’ backstories in an Agatha Christie-esque manner。 However, while a good read, this book didn’t quite do it for me in the same way her previous novels have。 The slow beginnings are normally so worthwhile but this seemed to lack the big uptake of action, plot, suspense that her previous books had for me。 The characters, where I normally fall in love with Let me start off by saying I love Lucy Foley, The Guest List was and is one of my favorite books and she’s a master at weaving together characters’ backstories in an Agatha Christie-esque manner。 However, while a good read, this book didn’t quite do it for me in the same way her previous novels have。 The slow beginnings are normally so worthwhile but this seemed to lack the big uptake of action, plot, suspense that her previous books had for me。 The characters, where I normally fall in love with her books were much more difficult to connect with and root for。 However, still as always extremely well written and an intriguing storyline。 。。。more

True to her other stories, author Lucy Foley takes us to Paris for this story taking place over 4 days in one location, an old, historic apartment building。 The story follows down on her luck bartender Jess who needs a fresh start and leaves London to visit her brother Ben, a journalist, in Paris。 But once Jess arrives, her brother is missing and the only ones around are his neighbors -- and everyone isn't who them seem to be。 At times suspenseful, I wanted this story to speed up a little and ke True to her other stories, author Lucy Foley takes us to Paris for this story taking place over 4 days in one location, an old, historic apartment building。 The story follows down on her luck bartender Jess who needs a fresh start and leaves London to visit her brother Ben, a journalist, in Paris。 But once Jess arrives, her brother is missing and the only ones around are his neighbors -- and everyone isn't who them seem to be。 At times suspenseful, I wanted this story to speed up a little and keep my interest a little more。 。。。more

4。5! What a fun, twisty read! Loved that there were no loose ends by the wrap-up and the pacing was perfection。 I loved the reveals and the secrets that poured out of the residents of this Paris apartment as the story unfolded。 Definitely entertaining!

Rachel Ruegg

So entertaining! Really enjoyed this one。

My first read from Lucy Foley… I had accurately guessed about half of the twists so felt like the plot had some holes but I was glad it had more than one twist… overall this was a fucked up, spooky af thriller that I enjoyed。

Lauren Quast

Started off like a cute little who dunnit。 Closer to the end, I honestly didn’t care。

Ellie Keane

3。5 tbhI read this in one sitting on a four-hour plane ride。 good decision, kept me entertained af the mystery was so good with this one, it actually did shock me, at multiple points throughout/

Huge fan of Lucy Foley novels。Although this had a fascinating plot, found it most difficult to read。 Not sure if it was so many characters and/or the redundant use of the word ‘I’ (especially in relation to one character)。Hope the movie version will be better。

Amanda

NO SPOILERS HERE— 4。5 stars rounded up。 So well written and not as cliche as I thought it’d be。 In typical Lucy Foley fashion, it was quick paced short chapters from different points of view。 Kept me ON MY TOES!

Allyson Medlin

Okay。 !!!!! LOVED jess even though no character was like super likeable。 The twist at the end (after another twist that you thought would be the last one) made up for some plotholes i believe。 Love u lucy foley

What can I say, I am a Lucy Foley fan。 I love these character driven mysteries and the audible productions of them。 I love the full cast of characters and the twists and turns。 This one was really fascinating and although I was quite sure I knew what the solution would be, I was surprised by the end。 Great fun。

Abby Jacks

Flow through this mystery! Slow-burn, but still kept me at the edge of my seat the whole time。

I enjoyed reading this book。 I generally prefer mysteries/thrillers and this totally fit the bill。 While I see how many readers who did not connect with these characters, the la k of connection or my lack of liking these characters didn’t interfere with how much I enjoyed reading the book。 While I figured out most of the twists and turns before they happened, I generally did so right before the reveal so I was guessing more than in most mysteries。 It was a pretty easy, quick read but I enjoyed i I enjoyed reading this book。 I generally prefer mysteries/thrillers and this totally fit the bill。 While I see how many readers who did not connect with these characters, the la k of connection or my lack of liking these characters didn’t interfere with how much I enjoyed reading the book。 While I figured out most of the twists and turns before they happened, I generally did so right before the reveal so I was guessing more than in most mysteries。 It was a pretty easy, quick read but I enjoyed it。 。。。more
